The more I think about it the more I’d love a Ninja Gaiden game with stealth elements. Let’s say there’s an area where 4 guards are on patrol. You can just jump down right in the middle, cause them to call out 10 more of their buddies and proceed to fuck them all up, or you can take them out without them even knowing you’re there and feel like a completely different type of badass. I see nothing wrong with this. If designed well it’d be a great game. Everybody wins.
I see that being more like Batman. I think I would find myself going for too much stealth, when what I really wanna be doing is going H.A.M.
And that is what I would consider forcing stealth. As much as I love a stealth game, the experiences often aren’t all that different from each other. From Batman, MGS and even Deus Ex stealth is huge, but none of those games have as good a combat system (Batman’s good but too simple, also not a bad thing) that I would rather have in NG. I might be mistaken but I don’t think it takes a whole lot in creating stealth opportunities. I would rather have Team Ninja focusing on upping the combat system, though some sprinkled in stealth opportunities wouldn’t be too bad.
Can’t agree with the man more. The pace of the game in NG (as I remember it anyways) is what sets it apart from the rest. You could be tearing it up one moment and one slip up and you getting your shit pushed in.
I disagree with Itagakis comments on Kamiyas games But agree with them about DMC as a whole. Generally in Kamiyas games the enemies are extremely agressive. DMC1 is the only DMC game Kamiya worked on and the enemies in that are really agressive. Same for Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta. The back and fourth in most of his games is extremely strong, i highly disagree with Itagaki about Kamiyas games lacking depth. When he says the enemies in DMC stand around waiing to get bopped he’s no longer talking about games Kamiya has worked, but instead games Itsuno has worked on. Theres a key difference.
And damn Jimmy resorted to making fun of my user handle huh? You really are bitch made. You know if you cared as little as claim you do you wouldnt feel the need to get one last jab in there, especially one as shallow as “durr hurr he has a dumb user name durr.” Me making fun of your long winded ass posts really got a stick up your butt didn’t it?
haha, probably. eh, who cares. back to the games. no need to start and continue 2014 with hostility over a game that hasnt even come out yet. lol. touche
I thoroughly enjoy how relentless the enemies are in Ninja Gaiden games, more so now that I’m typing about it and not playing, but none the less it was refreshing to have enemies not just stand around. I will say that about DMC post-DMC1. Even on the hardest difficulty they were nothing but a set of patterns.
Was NG the first to have regular enemies with unblockable attacks? I loved those.
MGR:
Parry.
Perfect Parry.
That Y+B dodge thing that is borderline useless.
Main Swords have a handful of different properties, most of the attacks being the same.
Sub Weapons that have uses at the expense of sacrificing half of your main weapon’s moveset.
A run button that lets you attack while running
A Stealth mechanic that only works because the enemies are incredibly unaware of their surroundings or their pals being dissected and screaming while 10 feet away(you know, like Tenchu)
Gaiden:
A Block Button.
An evasion move in the Reverse Wind Roll/Dash(1/2)
A slide evasion mechanic that causes stun or juggles on hit(RE,3)
Furious Wind letting you block an attack and negate damage, and reposition your character
A counter attack that knocks enemies away
A counter attack that knocks enemies into a comboable juggle state
The Footstool jump(X+A) targets enemies, let’s you jump off multiple enemies while leaving them in a stun state
De-limb system that makes enemies easier to dispatch at the expense of making them more aggressive and damaging
Obliteration technique(in combination with de-limb system) that lets you wade right into groups of enemies and take them apart.
Ultimate Technique system that has requirements to use and capable of taking out groups
Ninpo spells to mix and match with your weapons
Weapons, Weapons, Weapons, all with pretty unique movesets and properties compared to…every other action game ever made…11 in Gaiden 2, some lost and replaced by the ladies in RE
Projectile sub-weapons that don’t interrupt your main weapon movesets, usually allowing you to extend combos or setup resets off of juggles(shurikens!)
Gameplay mechanics that let you run or jump off walls with attacks.
A hard counter mechanic that let’s you chain multiple kill, or kill larger enemies instantly.
The Batman games have some of the shallowest combat in the genre. Never understood the hype for those games, I played and beat the first game but couldn’t care less to play the sequels.
Forgot that other than the “Footstool jump” Ryu has an Akuma demon flip throw that knocks down the enemy you throw, and if the thrown enemy hits other enemies they will get knocked down too. The animation is literally identical to Akuma’s demon flip throw.
Kasumi has a fucking command throw in RE that launches enemies into the air with a whiff animation. Funniest shit I’ve ever seen.
Because they make me feel like Batman yo. I smoke a fatty and bomb around Gotham foiling bank robberies an shit like it’s BTAS.
Shit’s dope. For me tho i wouldn’t say the combat is a highlight, the Arkham games are more about the whole package then the indevidual parts. I really like em but I don’t really compare them to straight up action games. They are more open world adventure games with above average combat options. They have more in common with GTA or Sleeping Dogs then DMC/NG/Whatever else fits this catagory.
I have all 3 Arkham games and each time I thought I wouldn’t like it. But each time, I had a blast playing it. Especially the combat maps. It’s a good time killer and I like the enemy variety and takedowns and mixing up gadgets. The costumes and characters are a nice touch. Shame that Deathstroke is pretty much a adult buff Robin but meh. I like racking up my combos and clearing sets while taking no damage. It’s probably my favorite beat em up series of all time. What I can’t get is the DW series because no one is a threat because the reason you lose is not error or a lack of skills or whatever. You lose because your stats aren’t high enough. And that is the only thing affecting difficulty. Easy or Hard everything in the same and you only lose because of weaker stats. There is no pressure like NG.
NO pressure but you can do some dope ass stuff especially DW7 and beyond. Plus I can kill a whole squad of guys hitting one dude with an Armbar, shout outs to my nigga Deng Ai.
