I beat Ninja Gaiden on xbox, beat ninja gaiden black when I bought a 360 beat Ninja gaiden 2 on 360 and I think they are awesome games. It was really awesome to see how NG2 went In a completely different direction with the gore and nonstop action even if it was a bit easier than NG1 it was still cool as hell and not many producers have the balls to do what Itagaki did. Recently I bought a ps3 and I played through sigma 2 and I was really let down.
They should have just given Itagaki the money they owed him, without him NG3 looks like a generic action game. Also sword only and I have to pay extra for other weapons wtf?
Edit: I’l never forget chapter 10 in NG2 where you have to do a slowmo/laggy “300” battle against 100 ninjas.
Just the Dragon Sword? I mean, I did all the solo weapon runs on NG2 so I don’t mind that, but if the DS is the only weapon…and holy shit that MP video looked like ass. Even the character animations looked pre-NG1
I hated Sigma II. I hated the changes to it. The giant bosses? Trash. They ruined Ninja Gaiden II with Sigma II. I didn’t like Itagaki that much but at least he had the passion to do what he wanted. Since he left, NGIII looks like shit. The multiplayer looks like a damn joke. If you land a ninpo Ryu recovers all of his life. Are you shitting me? Gore isn’t on par with NGII but they’re talking about “wanting the player to feel what it’s like to cut down a human being.” Who the hell asked for that? So when Hayabusa wrecks shop, soldiers shit and piss themselves in fear. Remember Ninja Gaiden II? With those ninjas that would commit kamikaze attacks on you? You know why they did that? Their leader told them to not come back unless they kill Hayabusa. So if they fled, they would be killed anyway. I liked that. Enemies wanted you DEAD. Even if it means taking their own life to do it. Now we’re changing that up? Pfft.
The only way these changes are going to fly is if the higher difficulty levels provide the challenge NG players are looking for.
Yo, I don’t remember soldiers pissing themselves in fear when they were juggling me with rockets in NG2. So I don’t understand why they think soldiers pissing themselves is a good idea in NG3.
So since I’ve started playing NGII I find it to be much harder than NG1. NG1 didn’t have as bullshity a camera as NG2 has so far and in NG2 enemies are constantly attacking like they have all the stamina of Thanos with the infinity gauntlet. Shit is annoying. Still having fun though when the camera doesn’t fuck me.
I mean how can I defend against something I can’t see!?
I didn’t mind NG2’s camera, at least they gave you options to adjust it. Just crank the horizontal look speed all the way up and learn to circle it around while you’re OTing/UTing. Just do constant de-limb->Obliteration techniques when you start to get overwhelmed. I still find Black more challenging, but I did like NG2’s completely furious combat better than any other action game before it.
Even if there is a work around there shouldn’t be the need for one. The camera should be the least of anyone’s concerns in a high octane action game. Bayonetta definitely got it right for this type of game. Sometimes fixed and sometimes not so fixed. To NGII’s credit it came out well before Bayonetta so that game had a lot of time to get things right. Anyway there is just something about NGII that just works so well. I think it’s the obliteration techniques or the satisfaction of winning a tough battle barely hurt or the environments… even though rather sterile looking Team Ninja makes gorgeous set pieces and there is a joy to be had running around in this plasticy 3D world. There’s a sense of realism there that isn’t present in other action games.
Kind of interesting, as he’s fielding questions as he plays, but a few things that looked noteworthy:
Hayashi says the Quick Time Events can be turned off, so you “can play the game like it was in NG1 and NG2”. He plays through and not one quick time event pops up, and the combat looked…better? More along the lines of the Hack/Slash>Obliteration Techniques, and the new UT format will force them to be used more sparingly. That I didn’t mind seeing…
The Stealth sequences…look like they can be approached with the typical aggression you’d expect from NG. Hayashi kind of stands around alot, but he indicates that the Stealth mechanics are more of an option you can use or ignore. There’s a sequence where Ryu’s walking around in fog, and if Ryu goes to aggressive, the enemies seem to go Metal Gear and alert/attack.
Wasn’t to excited about the bit where the soldier was pleading with Ryu to spare him, but from the sound of it, you’re not forced to engage in them if you don’t want to…
Fucktons of Rocket guys. Seemed like there was some slowdown when the rapid fire launcher guys were on screen, not sure if it was a visual effect or slowdown…
He comments on the difficulties, Hero Mode will be pussy mode, Normal mode he states will feel like NG1/NG2 Normal Mode with slight more leniency on the challenge side. Hard Mode is unlocked from the start.
It’s not gonna be Itagaki’s Gaiden anymore, but honestly…it looks better than Hayashi’s shitty Sigma2 editions. Blood. Higher on screen enemy count…who knows.
wtf is this kind of bullshit. I i wanted to play bayonetta id actually play that shit game. enemies that crawl back in fear? the fuck is wrong with this asshole.
i never understood this complaint. what about situational awareness. auditory clues, anticipatory skills. it’s similar to me in a FPS game when you get shot from behind and then saying how am i supposed to defend myself if i couldnt see that. on a competitive (i know this isnt an fps game but still) level i could track people across maps and know what they were doing the entire time without any visuals, sometimes and 2-3 HUMAN players which dont have pre programed AI intelligence.
there are times when you still get caught cause no one is perfect but then that’s when using your prior positioning skills before said “surprise” attack is key. a little randomness (every sport/gamehas it) is what keeps you on your toes, challegining and interesting. i mean you could be visually exposed to every single detail in a game but that doesnt even mean you will be able to process all of it, and if you cant you reduce the amount of ‘visual elements’ but how much because too few can make it too simplistic, etc. anyway.
All of this is what makes NG Black fucking awesome. The problem with NGII is that SO MUCH shit is going on at once you need super human hearing, vision, and tracking skills to keep track of it all. Dudes are everywhere, throwing TONS of shit at you all the time, trying to grab you for suicide kills, it’s fucking nuts and at times REALLY fun but a lot of the time it’s just a pain in the ass. It comes off as more of a cluster fuck then a skilled showdown.
Only true Master Ninjas can appreciate the awesomeness of NG2. Being on the edge of your seat while fighting hordes of Gaja/IS Ninja/Gold Van Gelfs is fucking awesome and nerve racking at the same time lol. The aggressiveness of the enemies forces you to be mobile which makes it a lot of fun.
One thing you learn from playing God Hand is how to keep the camera moving around to keep your eyes on your enemies. At any given time you are out numbered and can be killed. Especially in NG and NGII. I always keep moving around to see what’s around me. Gotta keep moving since it’ll make you harder to hit. It’s very asshole of it. Like ST you know? How quick things can go wrong keeps you honest and on your toes. Respect your enemies and learn how to fight or die.
You can’t compare this to a FPS because as soon as someone fires a gun there is the audio cue and unless they get me the first time (which is fine if they do, because they scored the hit) I’ll approximately know where it’s coming from. Plus I’ve never played any FPS where you are surrounded by all your enemies in a tight space with no place to run. There is only one FPS I can think of where you face odds comparable to NG2’s and that’s Serious Sam. But even then you have only yourself to blame if you lose track of anything. Plus in a FPS I have a wider view of the world around me.
You know what happens A LOT in Ninja Gaiden 2? I’ll turn around and the camera will still be facing the wrong way. Thanks game for forcing me to reposition the camera more than I need to. In all the other high calibur hack and slash games of this modern era the camera frames the action as best as possible. NG2 might do that if it’s feeling nice.
Or here’s another one of my favorites the auto targeting. I charge my ultimate attack and point towards one guy but it goes to the nearest guy. No game I didn’t ask for that. Let me go in the direction I chose to go in. I don’t need you picking where my Scythe UT goes. Just no game, no. Same goes with the arrow targeting. Eh sometimes it’ll auto target perfectly, sometimes it won’t.
I think that the RB button shouldn’t have been that weird camera lock button and instead been a 180 quick turn (which would mean the camera would turn too). It would have relieved a lot of the non-sense that goes on. “Oh shit I lost track of two dudes. QUCIK TURN! I got dat ass!”
I hope you don’t see me as bitching about NG2. I really liked it a lot from start to finish. The difficulty curve could have been better adjusted without losing that “I WANT TO KILL YOU PLAYER” attitude and you heard all my gripes about the camera. Other than those two things NG2 is fucking awesome. I love how unique all the weapons honestly feel and they all have a use, even the lowly Kursai Gama (spelling?). It blew my mind to watch the UT for the Tonfa man. I about fell in love with that weapon. It’s SO mean! And I love the way the game really had a focus on level design. Doesn’t surprise me either since this is Team Ninja of DOA fame.
Some of my favorite fights/levels:
[details=Spoiler]
Level 1 Fight in the little canal. So fucking pretty and everything was spaced out yet you were still corned. So cool.
Level 2 Meeting the dogs sucked the first 12 times I died but I learned their evil ways. Kind of. I can see that part scaring many players away. Maybe if the dogs would have been delayed by two seconds it would give people a better chance to react to exploding kunai and flying pooches.
Level 3 To me this is where the game started to feel more natural and not as retardedly overwhelming. And the constant rain was soothing.
Level 4 Inside the museum of Statue of Liberty I found myself impressed with the fact that even in this tight Team Ninja is confident enough in their ninjas to send them after you. So cool.
Level 5 I love everything about Level 5 except for learning the hard way that Wolves throw body parts. This is a great example of when a camera sitting higher and further back could have given me just an extra split second to see a torso headed my way.
Level 7 Props to all the tight halls and the double boss fight at the end. I just loved the way you run around on this ship. A much better airship stage than Bayonetta’s which let me down.
Level 8 Just the introduction of the super claw ninjas. Battles are always thrilling with those guys.
Level 9 Another delicious level full of eye candy and wonderfully orchestrated battles. Honestly the only lame things about this level were the bosses and the lack of more vertical areas to mess around in (it’s a jungle and me and my ninja enemies aren’t fighting in trees? smh.)
Level 10 The Money Shot where you fight your way up the stairs. GOD I loved my tonfas for that section.
Level 11 I just love the way you progress. Battle after battle, never ceasing. You can practically feel the Spider Ninja Clan’s desperation as they try hopelessly to stop you from reaching Mt. Fuji.
Level 14 The river of blood filled with the fish. I actually found a soul mate. That’s how much I loved that section. There was something so satisfying about running over the river and avoiding all the death OR killing all the fish eventually. Moats just aren’t used enough in video games and I was glad to see it here. [/details]
So see I dig NG2. I dug NG1 (never played Black). Let’s hope all the changes in NG3 don’t make for a bland game. If it gets 7/10+ scores I’ll get eventually. I do really like the Limited Edition so I’ll wait for that silly thing to go on sale and cop it then.
(I might show Team Ninja how it feels to be cut by a katana if that’s all that’s included in the game to use.)
Yes. It becomes cursed by the main villain who I have to say is more interesting than all but one villain (Genshin) in NG2. It’s also how you do UTs now. No more essence absorbing. Doesn’t look all that bad.
Vigoorian Flail completely leveled up, the combo where he twirls it around himself. there’s a particular method to getting rid of them all without any of them getting to you.
