Stop saying âNo oneâ like your personal feelings about something speak for others. I clearly feel differently then you do so âNo oneâ is obviously not true. The fact people are excited for this game provesthatâs true. The fact Action RPGs are are thing proves thatâs not true.
I dont know what purpose it serves to argue with you about this when there arent any open world stylish action rpg games in existence.
Theyre all mission based, so youre saying that im in a minority when I say âno oneâ wants an open world action rpg?
EDIT: let me apologize in advance if youre going to post some bad game Ive never heard of to make your point. I only know of Dmc, Bayonetta, MGR, Killer is Dead, No More Heroes, Asuras Wrath, Godhand, Ninja Gaiden, Nier, Bujingai and that game on ps2 where the guy could replace his limbs with guns n shit
FFXV, Darksiders II, Rogue Galaxy kind of, Nier Automata, Dust and Elysian Tale yada yada Iâm sure I could think of more if I really cared. I mean look you are welcome to disagree with me, I dont care really, my point is there is a market for it, and that I personally would like to see the genre try new stuff moren often. The short chapter format is fine except that almost all of them do it so the format is getting kind of stale, to me anyway. There are new places these games can go.
I wouldnt consider those action games. FF15 is an RPG with a freeform battle system, its still turn based to a degree and more RNG than action.
Dust I would consider a traditional platformer with action elements.
Nier and their mini-map style âexplore the environment/buy equipment/take on side quests in between misisonsâ isnt really open world either. Rather it gives the illusion that you have big freedom, but you dont, and thats good, because you dont need itâŚtbh
Itâs not a matter of need, itâs amatter of what they want to make. Yoko Taro has ALWAYS had multiple endings in his games and considering how much Platinum has stressed how they liked Nier and that it will still be Nier game even with them developing, and that Yoko Taro is still directing means itâs pretty fucking likely itâll have multiple endings.
IMO itâs probably better to think of this as a Nier game where Platinum just makes sure the systems good, have tight controls, and satisfying action, rather than a Platinum game with Nier-like trappings.
Free Form Battle System describes DMC perfectly. Thanks.
You have turn the turn based mechanics on.
Dust is a 2D open world action RPG.The combat is as front and center if not more sothen the platforming and navigation but im willing to give it a 50/50 split.
Yea sure, I never said the world needed to be Witcher 3 huge.
No, FFXV actually IS an action battle system. What decides where you hit anything or anything hits you is not dice rolls, itâs hitboxes. There are no turns at all. Yeah thereâs meters that charge for more significant attacks, but that happens in DMC even with Devil Trigger. The RNG in that game as far as whether your party takes damage or not has way more to do with your unfortunately AI controlled allies which is necessary since it is a full, real-time action system
yup Ninja Gaiden 1 black/sigma is definitely open world in a metroidish way.
Automata is not a beat em up though, itâs an action rpg with a hub world. even Yoko Taro wants the game to be more like Zelda OoT instead of Drakengard 3 or Bayonetta.
Nier and Automata are a genre outside of conventional sequence of mission setpieces. it does make the world more immersive instead of a on rails interactive movie.
Theoretically yeah. Itâd be really fucking hard and probably both boring and slow as fuck though. You do have iframes in the game if thatâs what youâre getting at.
Probably only that one room in Costlemark would be nearly impossible just because of the sheer amount of hitboxes going on lol
