Its almost here guys
I’m so pumped!!! Too bad I literally have to go the moment it releases… I don’t get why more people aren’t excited about this though. THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!!!
Has anyone here had much luck getting matchmaking to work? I’ve been trying for a little bit now and only been able to line up two games online.
Installing now! Finally. Can you do manual match-making online? The hype really died down on this one…
In theory, yes. In reality the person I was testing it with was not seeing my invites, nor was I seeing theirs even when we tried it in a variety of screens in-game. This… is kind of a problem.
I’ve played a couple of games with the same guy, says only 2 people online :(. However the controls felt quite unresponsive and bad, probably due to lag…
Weird. I had a different problem. The controls felt okay to me, but the overall experience has been inconsistent. Some games played fine, while others were dominated by bizarre and frequent rollbacks. “Yay! I stabbed my opponent, time to run ahead and… wha? No? I got stabbed? O… kay… I guess!?”
I dunno if theres another thread for this, but lets start talking strategy:
low sword position seems like one of the best, at least for scrubs online. during a lunge the leg goes way further forward and can get tagged by a low really easily.
If yr opponent starts keeping his or her sword in low to copy you I like to start in mid, and go for disarms instead of lunging
if someone gets by you, it seems best to just toss the sword and run off your side of the screen. you may sandwich them between your sword and your new respawn.
But man, if someone has high ground on you, it seems pretty over. I have no ideas yet.
Also ya, matchmaking and rollbacks gotta get fixed.
If they have high ground, your options are jump sword throw, thrown at the right height mid position can’t block it and even high is iffy. Or a really well spaced divekick.
I can’t tell for sure but does while running sword thrust have more range than standing sword thrust?
Yo this game is way too fun.
Interesting interview with the creator:
Some neat stuff about the game’s design. Also he backwards-engineered GGPO.
From the ground, is there a consistent way to anti-air a well-spaced divekick on reaction?
This game is proof with enough Hype the FGC will buy into anything.
It will die down just like Divekick.
Why are you parroting a lunatic like Ki Shima for? It’s certainly not going to take off with people being dumb ass Debbie Downers about it.
So I played this game today. I had fun, and I look forward to playing it again. Divekicks were destroying me, I need to start keeping my sword in the high position when I’m anticipating them and watch my spacing more.
I don’t remember anyone championing this game as “The Greatest Thing Ever” or anything like that, but it’s really fun, and that’s all that really matters, so I’d recommend that people on the fence buy it, or at least try it. Yes, that includes all the fucking Negative Nancies in this thread. Sheesh.
This game is awesome. But the netplay is beyond horrendous. I played it against someone who lives hardly a half an hour away from me, and it felt like playing under water. It’s a real shame
Jump back divekick like you’re playing Divekick or sword throw are all I’ve come up with to deal with those really steep angle divekicks, but even then its tough to react to.
And yeah, netcode needs looking at, I’m playing with people in my zipcode and I’m getting rollbacks for days.
I think having your sword up high automatically blocks and kills divekick doesn’t it?
I haven’t actually had any rollbacks yet, but the input lag is just really really bad, which shouldn’t be happening if the guy really ‘reverse engineered’ GGPO. So I’m not quite sure what went wrong there.
If they hit your head without touching your sword, divekick wins outright.
EDIT: from the Nidhogg discussion on Steam. If you come out of a cartwheel with your sword in the same position as your opponent, you get a disarm. Also, sword thrust out of a cartwheel does have more range than standing sword thrust.
Good find! to help with cartwheel shenanigans I mapped my up and down to facebuttons.
The disparity between this dev’s understanding of netcode and the final result is amazing. I’ve had matches where I get permanently stuck on ledges - trying to climb up or jump away results in a roll back, permanently attaching me to the side.
