Well one thing that the Niners have that Philly didn’t is a better defence. Their first round picks two years in a row have been on massive DLine players. NaVorro Bowman is ridiculous as well as a leader and inside backer. He led the NFL in tackles last year. They also have more of a pass rush and a better secondary than a lot of people outside the Bay realise. Last year wasn’t a disaster defensively, it was a disaster having one of the NFL’s worst offences under Geep Chryst who’ll never have that job ever again.
The 9ers special teams have been an issue but special teams are something that can easily bounceback from a bad year as plenty of teams have shown.
Another thing they have that Philly didn’t is mobile QBs. Kap and Gabbert can both run. Gabbert is fast and can scramble, the dude is a pretty good athlete for all of his brainfart decision making throwing the football.
I’m not saying Chip v.2 will necessarily succeed in San Fran but I am saying that just because it failed in Philly doesn’t mean it will fail in San Fran. He’s had more experience with his system in the pro game now so you’d think he’d have worked on adjustments.
The theory is of course great. Take the decision making out of a dumb QB’s hands, let him rely on his gifted athleticism. Have a good defense that can handle the increased workload and you can do things, as long as he adjusts.
The problem is, Chip not only never adjusted he consistently got WORSE as time went on. His playcalling got more lean and simple, to the point that the defense knew exactly what was coming. Seattle vs SF will show this as Seattle was the first team that exposed Chip in Philly.
This is a pretty good account of what happened to the offense as time went on.
Seattle will expose the Niners regardless, they’ve had their number since the NFC Championship they won on the way to the Superbowl. That’s Seattle though, they’re a shot at the big game again this year, they’ve succeeded in exposing a lot of teams even if they did only barely scrape past the Dolphins recently.
Some teams just have other teams numbers regardless of other results. The Texans vs. the Bengals for example. They’ve beat them both times in the AFC wildcard round, they beat them last year when the Bengals were undefeated and they were 2 - 5. The head to head is 4 - 4 regular season but 3 of those wins were in the first three years after the franchise was formed, the Bengals have won once in 10 years.
Jed York is an idiot that makes bad football decisions. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s tried to revamp the franchise right down to the sportscasters and sideline crew to cater to a young, modern SF audience. He built a stadium to sell corporate tickets but not provide any homefield advantage or any shade for the spectators, the fans are struggling to get involved. It’s a bulk capacity entertainment stadium that will be great for Lady GaGa concerts but not helpful for winning football.
Baalke is a good GM, he makes smart roster moves, smart trades. He built Harbaugh’s roster and if not for stuff like the early retirements and Aldon Smith’s stupidity would have excess talent left. He’s also left the Niners with a massive amount of cap room which hopefully Chip doesn’t blow on stupid purchases.
They’ll expose the niners. The team that BARELY scrapped by against the Miami Dolphins with home field amplified cheater vagina dome advantage yeah ok. I bet the LA rams would destroy the shecawks now. They still have THEIR number after all.
I think the Dolphins D is pretty damn scary…If it wasn’t for Mario Williams going out on the 4th, Miami probably would have beaten the Seahawks. Rams got blown out but they love to play thier best against us. I wonder if Donaldson is getting suspended.
Are you getting one of those color rush jersey? Im thinking of getting a Wilson one. Thomas piss me the fuck off, i was going to get his jersey this year. Might pickup Baldwin or Lockett. Im secretly hoping someone buys me a Jon Ryan jersey.
I had to get that Monday night game out of my head. I almost posted this thought the night of the fourth Redskins pre-season game. I was going to say that I’m am 85% confident in them this year. After last night, it dropped to 80%. Three main reasons…
I told you last year when you were begging to play against the Seahawks…They had a favorable schedule with a shitty division…Looks like they are the weakest of the weak of the NFCEast this season. Cousin cant maintain what he did last year.
As long as chip shuts the fuck up for almost the rest of eternity
Doesn’t do his nepotism and stays the fuck away from player personnel
Matter of fact he should do EVERYTHING in morse code
Niners might have a chance
They’re both equally bad but at least Marvin Lewis knows what the playoffs look like the past 8 years. Fisher is still riding the Super Bowl loss as some sort of accomplishment.
