So no, the fanbase isn’t stupid, the Skullgirls fanbase is awesome, and the Smash fanbase is awesome.

the fanbase is like…pretty wide. but okay.
but they way they operate in their respective games (particularly symphonia) fits fighting games pretty well, since they already have a bevy of special moves/interesting looking normals.
Qbert is more legendary then most game icons, but I wouldn’t put him in a fighting game 
at the end of the day, though, its just what someone likes personally.
and if they have the time and resources to make as many fleshed out characters as possible, why would you not want that?

When it comes to third party Namco stuff, it would be cool if they added an Idolmaster stage.
Idolmaster STAGE??? I dunno how that would work, Idolmaster is set in a pretty realistic world where nothing crazy happens, maybe the idols are all giantesses and they’re the stage hazard you have to avoid or whatever. I have a friend who’d looooove that
It doesn’t need to be anything special. They fight on the stage with a J-Pop concert happening in the background. You can use stage pyro for a hazard I guess.
