I decided to test this.
Indeed… :df::df:+:p: does NOT execute a Shoryuken.
Odd enough, though, :df::df::df:+:p: does!

df, df does… i tried it before
your probably hitting it too early.
this is a really great thread.
lol if you are doing a shoryuken instead of an ultra your execution is off; it has nothing to do with shortcuts. It basically means you pressed your attack button too fast or missed the last forward direction all together. It means you went d, df, f, d, df, punch. Look at the last 3 directions of that missed ultra: f, d, df . That’s the regular way to do shoryuken. No shortcut.
Shoryuken: :df::d::df:
Oicho Throw: :df::d::l:
The only real part I hate is how computer opponents can completely avoid the input system and just use moves (like Gouki’s Ultra from a walk forward). SF would be a really wierd game if it was a board with like 15 buttons.
The one cool thing I like about the shortcut system, however, is being able to cancel a Sonic Boom or Somersault into a Double Somersault, which is VERY fun!
Do you have a video of this? It shouldn’t work because you need 3 motion inputs for an SRK.
It would be nice to have an option to turn input shortcuts off.
You’re right, Rsnake is wrong. For as long as SF4 is around people will continue to spread misinformation about shortcuts. DF, DF, P is not a valid DP input, no such shortcut exists. No matter how much information and explanation is done there will always be people saying it is. Probably because a few guides inaccurately state it is valid.
I wouldn’t mind tightening up the reversal timing and I would like to get rid of the auto-flip…it’s just too hard to rush when reversal window is large, easy shortcuts and auto flipping…this results in turtling… turtling = boring…
Seriously, go into training mode and try to get a shoryuken out by hitting only df, df, p.
The only inputs that can be shown are df, df, p. <-- This will never, ever work. It may feel like it on your pad or stick because that’s the motion you’re doing, but SF4 is extremely sensitive.
It’s actually quite difficult on a pad at least to specifically push df > df in succession, I had to flick the joystick attached until I got the hang of it otherwise it would frequently input down into the equation.
Feel free to watch the videos that prove that df, df, p does not execute a srk. If you turn on input in training mode to actually see the motions that are being registered, whenever a shoryuken goes off you’ll see a down somewhere in there, in fact, 2 motions (any 2) will never produce a shoryuken, it has to be 3 inputs.
However, you’ll never see a video proving that df, df, punch will produce a shoryuken, because it’s impossible.
Any forward, any down, and (I believe) anywhere between f, df, d, + punch will produce a shoryuken, but 2 inputs alone won’t. As someone pointed out earlier, 3 df’s and a punch works because it’s 3 inputs that all fall into that range.
