[Newbie] Magneto Thread - Q & A

lol, no offense but if you can’t land the rom setup, there aren’t too many magneto combos you would be able to do.

However, you’d be surprised how many people forget/cant mash out the hypergrav tempest online. Thats a damaging ass combo right there.

i can land the rom setup, im just confused on wat to do after the ddf lk lk…any suggestions?

Learn 5fierce if you can’t rom.

c.hp /\ hk or hp, addf, hp, hk / c.hk

Other than that, after the ROM setup it opens you up for reset which can be just as effective as any combo.

A lot of people love doing his infinite. But you’ll find that if you alter or shorten the infinite, your Magneto becomes more deadly. For instance, starting out with the infinite, for about 4 hits (it seems low, heh?) then crossing to the other side and…well…A GAZILLION FREAKIN OPTIONS!!! Sorry…This is helpful because it makes your opponent even more intimidated by Mags aggression. Most opponents are assuming youre gonna continue for about at least 15-20 hits. Plus, just sitting hearing crickets in the background while you do a freakin 480-jab hitting infinite is really boring to your opponent, of all people. I consider my Mags a mixture of all Mags players. One thing Im working on now is his movement after certain animation frames. When he does his aerial tempest, you can rush down to jab roll em’. But, Im not rushing down, Im just subtley coming down to jab roll em’. I think thats more discreet and deceptive. Also, when he does his shockwave, treat it like his ground combo. What I mean is, once youve approached them, subliminally slide. Sometimes, theyre not really focusing on you sliding, because theyre recovering (mentally and defensively) from the previous shockwave. Or, in that same instance, cross over w/psylocke, thats effective as well.

ok i been practicing the ROM. i got as far as c,lk c.HP sj,HK ADDF lk lk sj lk lk. after that i do ADDF and try to connect lk lk but it nvr works. am i doin something wrong?

after the air dash, you need to immediately hit lk, and i mean fast. Also make sure that you’re dashing at the correct time.

Can anyone offer advice for learning how to play Mags? what basics should I get down first and then work from there? I usually play With Storm/Sentinel/Cable but I’ve been wanting to learn how to play mags so I can play MSP. Can anyone give me advice as to what I need to learn to play Mags properly?

After an OTG to launch what are the best options?

I always try to sj.hk but it either wiffs or I get the ‘falling’ screen and can’t ROM after.

I also tried the sj.hp but it just doesn’t seem consistent; your thoughts?

Im a complete noob at this game and wanted to learn magneto, can someone get me a link to a video that shows how to do the ROM?. Because I hear it alot, sounds like a combbo a noob should be able to learn after practice. Thanks

After OTG, there are numerous things you can do. One in particular, is to ad/d under for another hk or cr.hp launch. Your opponent may be confused momentarily, allowing for another launch. Another tactic is to launch (cr.hp) sj. like youre going for aerial, ad/d, land, go for ROM. When theyre falling, they may not be in a defensive mindframe, so sneeking a lk into ROM may work. Or, when you cr.hp, trijump, land, hk or hp grab. This works sometimes as well, because they may not have mentally recovered from the aerial combo anticipation. So, work on mix-ups and crosses to…MAKE YOUR OPPONENT DIZZY!!! HAHAAAAAA!!!

How do you set up unmashable tempest with Storm off of rom?

you must get your opponent in rom combo without using psylocke then anytime you land during a rom, do a nj.lk+psylock, lk xx tempest dhc to hailstorm. you can interchanged the second lk with a hp or hk, just different timing.

What’s my best options for assist punishing as Mags? Say I rush in, opponent calls Capcom and I block, what’s my best options from here? I like to play M/S/S w/ Storm’s vertical typhoon and Sent’s drones. I know I could switch to rocket punch to counter assist, but I love zoning with drones and typhoon too much.

RP is definitely best to punish assists. There aren’t too many options with your team. I would probably try and predict the assist call and call vertical so that he gets hit and sent in to the air. The longer time the assist is in the air, the longer your opponent has to wait before he can call him again. Also, if the opponent leaves an opening, you might be able to still hit him on his way down.

If theres an opening you could try and launch that shit. Always hold U/B so you can suki or super jump cancel in to a block if need be. If the opponent is a really big newb, then 5 fierce that shit.

THe cool thing when you are 5 fiercing the assist, it doesnt cause fly screen. So you can 5 fierce and still call an assist or sjc during the last hk.

Specifically about your question “rush in, capcom calls, you block” I wouldn’t even try and block it. I would dash back to avoid it, then dash forward so you aren’t left in block stun and can attack freely. Most sentinels/storms are too good at protecting commando if you block it, so you need to stay moving and dodge everything.

This may have been answered before, but why can’t you sjc or xx hypergrav a 5 fierce?
