New Xmen..

I wanna know what are you guys feelings on new Xmen.

to me the new xmen story line is turning out even better than new mutants.

I love that 75% of the cast was killed off. Even some of the ones that looked like shoe in’s for Xmen replacements were killed. The story lines present very good challenges for the team very good headbutting with the existing X teams, Lots of funny.

I’m Totally enjoying the whole prodigy/Surge/Hellion/X-23 Love bonanza. Dust is an amazing character to me. The fact that she’s smokin hot under that outfit is fantastic also. Mercury reminds me alot of wolfsbane from back in the days of new mutants.

I hope that the writing and art doesn’t change much for a while to come so far since Mday they beat nimrod and balesco, Elixir went from being pretty much usless in battle to being able to kill or heal with a touch, Rockslide is becoming more baddass every issue, laura … fuckit … i like her so much more than wolverine… Prodigy lost his powers and still is badass.

All that and they repeatedly tell Cyclops and Emma to fuck off.

Loving it.

Am I the only one who’s reading this book?

I’ve followed it since the beginning. I love the fact that anyone can get peaced out at anytime. i normally hate pointless death, btu the writers did a really good job with it.

I like it. Didn’t followed it when it was New Mutants though, I hate Dani Moonstar. New Xmen and Acadamy X was enjoyable. Yet I’m not really feeling the Scottie Young art right now. Fav characters right now: Mercury(redheads:sweat:) and Hellion.

The recent issue that came out just goes to show how out of touch some of the current X-men are with the New X-men.

The opening panel itself was all sorts of funny with Cyclops breaking down all the fights the young xmen have been through and wolverine suggesting they send them up to deal with Vulcan.

I was enjoying it when the previous team of writers did it. After a while, I got bored of it. I think it was right around the post-House of M or Nimrod thing. I skipped reading for a month and then I realized I didn’t care. Thought about getting it when Niko Henrichon did the fill-in issue, but didn’t care about the story.

One thing that bugs me is how they tried to gather extra readers by hijacking Grant Morrison’s title for the series. It was perfectly fine when it was just New Mutants - it’s a lot easier to live up to a legacy of Claremont and Liefeld than it is to live up to Morrison on LSD.

I use to dislike it but ever since right before the nimrod arc I’ve been loving it. Its fresh and new and your never really sure who’s gonna live and or die. Or what direction its going to go… Hellion who i didnt like at all has quickly become on of my fave’s. And I love how ruthless emma is in the book. (love what the whole scene she had with X-23’s rival)

Great book and I like it better than uncanny.

Xmen
New Xmen
Uncanny

If been a fan since the new mutants and i still like it so far unlike uncanny which i don’t really feel any more. Normal xmen still good as all ways fine art, good story’s you name it. Only this i hate atm is that at the end of the nimrod arc hellion gained a power boost which placed him at a higher lvl then the rest which he all ready was. And not only that he is one of the main characters in the messiah complex .(hope i didn’t spoil this for anyone) I mean give the other chars like victor, trance, wolf cub, indra, bling, onyxx, gentle, armor and blindfold (might have missed some but then again i might not) a chance to shine. Sure victor and some others had a part in the ‘‘quest for Magik’’ but thats was practically nothing. But overall its a good comic i love it.

To be honest I grew up on New Mutants so it’s always been hard for me to jump in to any other child X-Men teams, like Generation X when that was out for example. Few times I’ve read New X-Men via a crossover or sometimes I’ve pre-order my books and think that New X-Men is X-Men lol - I’ve enjoyed it. Yost is a really good writer and he created X-23 for X-Men Evolution and wrote her comic book origin too. It’s great that he can follow her carreer throughout.

yes that’s what is exciting about each challenge… everytime they go into battle there is a chance one of them won’t be making the band. And that cut can actually happen in or out of battle. Tag was being built up to be a core member of the team same with Wallflower and Wither … actually wither is still around somewhere but the other two… ggpo’d.

That’s what I liked about the magik story though… the “minor” characters got a chance to get down and they really did hold there own. they were intresting and exciting to read about. Dust and mercury and laura did the damn thing in that arc. For the both of them to hold it down for as long as they did vs balesco was amazing. Laura coming back over and over again to fight balesco was great. Hellion and Surge didn’t even really show up till the end.

I actually liked generation X till around the time synch died. They just werent progressing.
the team became really campy and boring. The tension between jubilee and M wasn’t so intresting to watch. Husk was intresting and so was chamber but when chamber left it was all … meh

but AOA Gen X Omg! that story was AMAZING. I actually shed a tear at the end of that story.

This team of New Xmen i seem to like because no body has taken the reigns of being there official guardian. It’s like the Xmen are like uhm… go wait in the car while we take care of this… and they end up driving the car to a more exciting place than driving back just in time for the Xmen to barely miss that they’ve been gone.

I think the lack of an official guardian is one of the keys to this book staying fresh, New mutants had Xavier, Gen X, had Emma and Sean, X-force had cable and domino, these kids… have… well… kinda the whole team of regular xmen who don’t really have time for them and the kids are sick of being ignored. Awesome.

Haven’t read any of it, mostly because I live vicariously through TPBs, and I don’t like X-23 all that much. Been meaning to give it a try, though.

Yeah AOA Gen X was amazing. Names escape me at the moment but that scene where the girl who could morph into people made out with that guy who wasn’t her boyfriend while she looked like a monster to comfort her because she was scared was excellent and funny at the same time! Wolvie Kitty was hella cool too.

^ Never got to read AOA Gen X, is there a trade for it?

Fairly sure that for AOA you hade to buy all of the trades for it, they didn’t release single trades for titles. It’s called the Age of Apocalypse the complete epic, I think it’s like 4 books or more. Each book would jump around from story to story, book to book, like X-Men, X-Man, Generation Next and so on.

Not 100% sure since Age of Apocalypse is one of those rare events where I bought every single issue that had anything to do with the crossover when it came out, man what an event. :lovin:

I think onslaught was the last time that I did that.

I’ve been trying to do that with WWH cause the payoffs have been freakin awesome. (i.e. WWH:Xmen, wwh:initiative) but house of M, no civil war… not really.

I don’t like X-23, either. I guess every self-respecting superhero needs about two things: a polar opposite villain version of themselves (think Reverse Flash, Venom, Sabretooth) and a kid hero version of themselves (Kid Flash, Spider-Girl, X-23). It seemed kind of weird to introduce her to the team, except that the writers must have wanted the prototypical badass with claws.

Never bothered reading her various minis. Tried getting into the first one but got bored quickly.

Rucka introduced the Native in his Wolverine run. Is there any relation?

You may be right, but i’m almost positive I have an AOA gen x trade. it was the one series I didn’t get all the pieces for. I’ll check this weekend if I can find my old TPB stash.

Edit: yup http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Next-X-Men-Apocalypse-Deluxe/dp/0785101306

Ah that’s good thanks!

I read the first trade after it went from New Mutants to New X-Men (I believe it was called NXML Academy X or something). I didn’t like it really at all, and I haven’t tried any more. This was before Kyle and Yost though so maybe their stuff is better

Sano - the original AoA trades had gold foil covers and reprinted each respective mini-series (generation next, astonishing, x-calibre, etc). These went out of print a long time ago which is why they came out with the new complete epic trades during the anniversary (which contain more than just the mini’s)

^ yeah that’s the one I have, the gold covered one.

As far as I know, The Native, and anything else from Rucka’s run, has never been heard from again. But Sano is the wolverine expert…
