First off I played MvC2 for over 10 years and I’m starting to get interested in playing TVC. Obviously when I watch match videos for TvC I’m comparing it to MVC2 in the back of my mind.
Anyway, my first question is, how come I don’t see assist spamming in this game similar to Mvc2 is played? Is it because the assists generally suck in TVC, or is the risk of calling an assist not worth it cause assists take extra damage when called? How come people don’t call anti-air assists when a player is jumping in on them?
I’m a bit confused but I don’t have a wii to get really into the game.
There’s less assists for two reasons. One being you only get one character to call on, and the charge time on the ‘assist ok’ might be longer than it is in MvC2. It’s still a good idea to use assists often, but it’s not spamming the screen like it would be in MvC2. Plus it’s good to have your assist ready in case you need to DHC, VAR, V-Counter, VHC, all that fancy stuff that requires your assist to be ready. Even just to extend your combo is a good reason to keep your assist ready, since you only have one partner in this game.
I also have been playing marvel for about 10 years now and just started tvc when UAS came out. Like Evil Toaster mentioned, the ‘assist ok’ takes WAY longer to charge in TVC than in marvel.
Another thing is that calling assists defensively is way different. For example when you’re being rushed in marvel by magneto, you can just hold b/db and call your AA while blocking. In TVC you can do the same thing, but you would have to throw the stick into neutral, up or down for the assist to come out. Otherwise you get an accidental V-counter or switch in.
It seems like there really arent any assists with invincible startups as well (Most can be c.lped before beginning their attack). But at least they have invincibility frames on recovery making it much more difficult to punish the assist.
it should also be noted that tvc assists take real damage unlike in marvel (so if your assist is in a big enough combo they will lose their red health) unlike marvel where assists don’t lose red health
