Okay, I see what you’re saying. The problem is that it forces you to guess which follow up he’s going to do. Immediate HK follow up can be beat by mashing out U2 immediately after the flip part. Dust will hit once and combo into wrenches like you said. The problem is that you can’t use reversal timing against delayed LK follow up, otherwise he’ll get hit by the sand and fall out of the rest of the Ultra. U1 covers this problem by using the same timing to punish any follow up he chooses.
Tried it a couple more times. Reversal U2 CAN beat a delayed LK follow up, but it depends on how delayed it is. If it’s really delayed, it’ll work, but if it’s just a bit, he’ll be off the ground already and will only get hit by the dust. I’d upload a video but I have nothing to hold up my phone camera with nor am I that good at playing one-handed.
but that’s the thing I can’t seem to reproduce. when I record ex messiah, lk followup, it either is a block string, or he gets hit by u2 no matter the gap I leave [the u2 is mashed!]. U1 is a pretty good choice against rufus anyway as it is against any divekick character [I use it myself; but it depends on the player for the most part, u2 has a few traits in these matchup on its own]. I simply want to try to reproduce it.
edit:
kk gonna looking forward to it. intrigues me ^^
I can’t get it to work. It happend to me once, but only because I was too slow (aka didn’t mash hard enough^^), because u2 hit fully everytime afterwards without changing the dummy recording. it does make sense since he is “grounded” till after the active frames. and looking at ur video makes me belive that you just were too slow aswell. I’d be happy if you test it further (with harder mashing) and report back whether that’s true or not. I mean, it’s so situational, it’ll prolly never happen to either of us, but it would be still nice to know.
There’s no problem with my timing. Reversal message on the left side. It’s just flat-out not a good idea to try to punish EX Messiah with U2.
there is a 5 frame reversal window and that cleary can make the difference.
That doesn’t mean the reversal has a varying window of 5 frames to come out. It means you can input a move within the 5 frames of wake up/block stun ending and it’ll still count as a reversal.
and how is that different to what I said?
if you input it on frame 1 = 7 frames till it hits rufus.
if you input it on frame 5 = 12 frames till it hits rufus while his animation moves 5 frames forward in the meantime.
since I can’t reproduce it, it either needs to be VERY specific (which I rather doubt) or you simply misstimed it a little.
No, if it says reversal then it’s out on the very first frame that you recover. The 5 frames is the window of which you can input it the special and still have it come out on the very first frame.
If you think it’s that hard to time, I wouldn’t have been able to reproduce it in that video with one hand.
I hope someone actually reads this, but I’m still fairly new to SF4, 2012 will be my first full year of watching streams and learning from the pros…but i was wondering, how do people know the frame data…I “know” (i think i know lol) Cody is a frame trap monster, but i dont know which moves are even/+/ or - on block, is there a place on the Capcom site or what, how do i find these things out.??
