NEW TN Thread: We Sonic Boom our lives away. (also spam butts too)

I think you tuned in when everything was running smoothly Sunday (before the finals in every game was unwatchable). It was a mess the night before though. Names were in fact wrong for entire rounds on more than three occassions. One instance of this killed a lot of hype for viewers, because we thought Justin Wong was getting perfected by some random dude. Marn didn’t contribute to anything on the mic for more than an hour. He talked to Mike Ross, who was chatting in the stream, and bragged about how he’s rolling in money. Barely any of Wong’s and Marns AE matches were shown on the stream. The commentators didn’t know what was going on and seemed disinterested. I watched two teams battle in Marvel for nearly an hour, not knowing if it was tournament, casual, or money match, and I wasn’t alone in this confusion.

With all of that being said though, the ARK guys had to deal with many things out of their control. A natural disaster severely limited their internet connection. On Sunday, it was reported that half of the streams on the site were down simultaneously, which included the ARK stream. They did do a great job with restarting the stream when it became laggy, and that always fixed it on my end (people with bad connections kept bitching anyway). They all did a good job with setting it up and running it. If it weren’t for bad venue connections and commentators left out of the loop, it would’ve been much better.

When the stars aligned and everything was running perfectly, the stream was fun to watch. I was able to watch Squabbler bust people’s mouth with Cody. I got to watch Chris playing hard against Jan’s Ryu. I was hype for TN’s Marvel team matches. Jas’s commentary was hilarious. Jan had a ridiculous Haggar comeback. Wong was showing why the DHC glitch was so dumb in Marvel. Without you all working hard to get this to all of us, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy that.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Real talk, I have no problem with negative feedback as long as we can learn from it. I’ll forward this information to our stream crew and we’ll improve for next time. I will say that I’m very proud of our streamer, Rawkus, for doing a great job despite all the difficulties we had. The problem with wrong names arose mostly from players sitting in the wrong seat after giving their names (i.e. JWong sitting on the left and being P2) combined with having strange teams (JWong plays Wesker now?).

I wasn’t monitoring the stream, but I know Rawkus is a nice guy and doesn’t want to kick commentators off. I’ll tell him to come find me next time because I have no problem telling people to get off if they suck. The way we operate, we’ll give anyone a chance on the mic just so that they can have the experience. Unfortunately, this leads to people at home being bored or irritated… but sometimes it leads to Lord Jas’s 'IN YO MOUF! TINA TURNER! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!"

Anyway next time I’ll give the commentators some guidelines so they know exactly what’s needed from our end. Thanks for letting me now how you guys feel. No need to sugarcoat anything. Can’t learn if you don’t know!

I think the biggest issue with having guest commentators is that someone like Marn, who mind you has gotten away with so much in the community, is able to “be” on the stream when there are much better people that would suit that area quite nicely…to me anytime you have people publicly berate or humiliate people or leave tournaments, threaten (not talking about Marn specifically) and still believe that they are superstars in this community is the most laughable thing ever. The sad part is from an outsider’s point of view, a lot of the community stuff looks ridiculous.

Streams are very very tough to deal with which is why spooky is so wanted in the community for his capabilities managing them. He’s not the only person who can do them well, but he is the only person who can do them that well in our community…I think second would be Valle’s streams…

I think when Goldenoreos gets his capture equipment we will have commentary and tape matches but they may not be streamed at first because Hickory Hollow will not allow Comcast to come in here for some reason, so unless you guys want 0.4MBPS Upload it’s going to be hard for us =P

Viper did get damage nerfs. And now I see they even took 10 off her burn kicks… :bluu:

Itty bitty stuff like 20 or 30 dmg from u1 and 10 off burn kicks. She’s the only character who has been in since Vanilla who hasn’t had dmg nerfs across the board. It’s like “you pressed something >>> Ex ground to ultra 1 just did over 400 dmg. LOL TROLL FACE. ONE MORE MIX UP U DIE.”

Tell us how you really feel about Marn. lol

Seriously, I’ve heard a bunch of crap about Marn, but I can never tell what’s true or not. Whenever he opens his mouth, it makes me want to believe it all. Apparently, Gootecks has a bad attitude in person too…

Maybe it’s just me, but dropping damage by 10 on a full set of moves does not change how ridiculously stupid a character is … Perfect example is Bison … So what he lost 10 damage on certain moves, it still doesn’t change the fact that Bison can pressure you all day for free because everything is safe … All it does is make you sit there longer in frustration, or get CH trying to get out …

Those types of changes are absolutely worthless IMO … Now if they started changing start-up frames, active frames, recovery, invincibility, etc … THOSE make a difference … 10 damage doesn’t mean shit, the character is still stupid safe and has the same mix ups and shenanigans … It just might take them one extra mix up to kill you …

@MemphisPlayers: Also, I will NOT be making it to Fight Night … and I know there’s supposed to be the last AE Ranbat tonight … So, if someone else wants to step up and run it, feel free to … Just be sure to give me the bracket … If not, then I’ll run it next week …

I can tell you many things from most of the older school top players from first hand experience, just hit me up when you see me at the arcade; I have a funny story about my wife getting pissed at him (Marn) at MWC 2006 (or maybe it was 05), lololol…

Those are updated changes to the original changes, so Fei Long got nerfed slightly, but only -10 damage on certain things, and the worst part for him is spammers that do Rekka twice will be punished…

I have personally worked with Gootecks on his Cross Counter guide and from what I could tell in the three months working with him, the dude is super cool and down to earth. Very encouraging and open to other ideas and suggestions. Can’t speak for Marn though I believe Bishop and the Memphis Guilty Gear crew have met him at tourney’s and they say is not too bad either (Correct me if I’m wrong).

All in all, I believe a lot of the villians in the community are honestly cool people. They just choose to play the role that gives them the most exposure I suppose.

A lot of the villains choose this to market themselves but a lot of people are EXTREMELY selfish and socially awkward (not referring to Gootecks in this context)…to put it in Watson terms, YJDK, lol

I’ve known Gootecks since 2002 or so when he had crazy long hair and he was playing at Cal Poly…but that’s besides the point…

The only interaction I have is running tournaments and I’ve ran so many with these guys and had to speak to them and I can honestly tell you that I have a laundry list of wtf people and some people who never complain about anything…

Oooohhh, Jason tells the E! True Hollywood stories. Can’t wait for this.

In videos and streams, I’ve seen him act like an ass to others. He called Poongko a “fucking cunt” on a stream a while back for messing with one of the stream cams. He got in someone’s face after a match in Florida a few months ago. It mainly seems like he gets dramatic when things don’t go his way. But I’ve never met the guy, so I can only go from what I’ve seen.

I’m not saying anything…I was trying to be nice, but Astaroth is on the right track on some stuff. Like I said, ask me in person…he’s been cordial to me but the other “stuff” you hear, well, you can’t deny that stuff forever.

This happens with a lot of communities though…including Tennessee. Unneeded drama but we’ve already seen players that disrespect entire scenes welcomed back and treated fine like there were no issues and others that have been ostracized completely out of the scene, some deserved, some not…I’m glad most people are not like that here but sometimes you still have to shake your head at some of the stuff that has happened, lol

I played 10stars in some Marvel casuals at FR14, not really knowing he was (somewhat) well-known from Jersey. Anyway, I beat him with Hulk quite a bit, and he got up while yanking his stick cord out and said, “Whatever. GG.” When walking off, he was telling his friend that Hulk was a bullshit character and that he should’ve never lost to me. I laughed. It’s like some of the top players feel like they should never lose, and when they do, they cause a big scene.

Jason, you gonna be at GG this Saturday, or will you just be there in two weeks for your tournament?

Marns an asshole and that’s a well known fact. I know cause I’ve been around dude in Many tourneys to notice a lot of shit that has gone down with him but I’ll just leave it at that.

As for tonight I will be there so consider the ranbat take. Care off squabb. I’ll text u soon but I’ll take care of it and give u the results and all that shit later.

I think a part of this is awkwardness. I mean, what are you going to do? Tell a popular player not to attend tournaments? The same thing happens in Hollywood. Look at Alec Baldwin. He berated his daughter and beat on his wife, and people still like him.

Been there with that too…when I first moved to California from Miami/Chicago there were some pretty big Golfland tournaments and tournaments in Vegas where I got to play some of the NorCal guys I had never played in Chicago at MWC (mind you this was 1996-1998) and I beat Jason Nelson in a tournament in Alpha 2 and he told his buddies that he just lost to “some scrub”; there’s a pretty epic log about this on alt.games.sf2 with my friend Geoff Arnold getting in on this, it’s pretty funny and Nelson wanted to fight me, play me for money; etc…we’re cool now but holy crap that happens a lot when people lose to people they do not feel they should lose to…

I still say one of these days the guys here should drag me to a tournament and troll people with matches with me since I don’t leave as much, lololol

I do hear a LOT of complaints about Hulk but I mean, what is the issue with people just shutting up and playing the game, you know? No one seems to do that anymore, it’s always a character/tired/not into it/let you win/joystick issue, lolololl

I won’t be at GG this Saturday…I’m only here Sunday and Tuesday…today I am here because all the Rivergate games are coming back and poor Richard and Brandon are moving everything back…

Nope, 100% right on this…it’s like Kanye West and all these other guys you read about that are famous (Lebron James, etc) but have some serious issues… the 'brand" is where the money is and if that’s what it is about, so be it…

I think social awkwardness is the cause of many of the problems in the FGC. 8 out of 10 people I meet at tournaments are super cool and meeting new people is one of the best parts of going to tournaments like that. Unfortunately there are also plenty of people who are like… barely able to talk to other people. They have no manners and/or are extremely rude ( whether or not they mean to ), dirty and smelly, or are just very, very weird. I’ve seen people just flip out at the smallest thing at these tournaments, or just go into an all out 2-year old temper tantrum. Also, there’s plenty of people who are seemingly cool in person but on forums, xbox live, chat, whatever they are just incredibly fucking unpleasant, miserable assholes. This is at least half of all top players.

Overall, I’d much much much rather be in the fighting game scene than in shooters, Starcraft, etc. Things like this ‘scandal’ with Planet Zero and SBO are nothing compared to the crazy shit that goes on in Starcraft. In SC theres a bigger scene, more money, more companies involved so it is to be expected though.

It’s the ones that offend my nostrils that really bother me. Everybody is an asshole to some extent.
