O.Sagat wasn’t even the best character in VST. If you wanna think of him in the right terms, think of Cable in MvC2. Cable is NOT the best character in MvC2, but he definitely has a HUGE presence because of some form of B.S. Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel are all better characters, but Cable is the one you worry about when you learn the game.
O.Sagat could be beat by a LOT of characters. But the low tier characters got destroyed by him. Gief, Fei Long, and Cammy got murdered by O.Sagat. Guile and Chun had their difficulties. But every other character, if you knew what you were doing, you could fight him. And Sim, Vega, Bison, Balrog, and Ryu could even go toe-to-toe with him. Heck, even with the characters that got crushed like Cammy, I had game plans against him. O.Sagat wasn’t anywhere near as broken as most people seem to remember he is now.
I wouldn’t ever say that O Sagat was broken. He was just so_damned_obnoxious to fight against. There was nothing like Chun v O Sagat, anticipating a low tiger and jumping over it early, and STILL having Sagat recover in time to Tiger Uppercut you out of your jump. Good grief. Sure, in the end, the matchup wasn’t too lopsided in O Sagat’s favor, but it still pissed me off to have to fight the match.
Honestly, the list doesn’t look that bad. Comparing it to the old Japanese T. Akiba matchup chart, and then taking into account the relevant character changes that affect those matchups I can’t really see much that would be incongruous. At least for the characters that I play anyway. :wonder:
