New Thread Rules - PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING A THREAD!

Since we have moved to this new version of SRK, there is a lot more room on the first page of the forum sections by default. This means that the original reasoning for keeping the number of threads limited no longer applies. Please keep the following in mind when starting a new thread:

  1. You’re going to get an infraction if you start a thread for an area and a thread for the area already exists. This happens way too often. Learn to read.

  2. If you want to start a thread for an area that didn’t previously have a thread, go ahead and do so until otherwise notified. If you don’t draw a lot of attention and/or posting in that thread, it MAY be merged with the closest area thread.

  3. This area is for DISCUSSION and MATCHMAKING - do NOT start a thread for your tournament here, there is a Tournament and Events area for that. There is a thread stickied at the top of the section if you want to notify players of your tournament and put up a link to your thread in the T&E section. Also, don’t start threads about random things - area threads only. There’s a General Discussion area for that. Finally, if you do have a special case where you need to start a thread to notify specifically Atlantic South players about something, just contact me or one of the other mods, and chances are if it is important enough, you’ll not only get your thread, but you’ll also get it stickied. Previous examples of this include Tennessee’s ranbats rankings, Final Round and CEO specific information, GG threads for popular games, and holiday threads.

  4. WAIT UNTIL AT LEAST 1001 POSTS TO START A NEW THREAD FOR AN AREA! Originally there was a systematic reasoning for doing this as it helped on searches back in the olden days (or so I was told when I first took this gig), but now that doesn’t really apply. It has, however, become kind of an understood “rule” in the Atlantic South, as it gives everyone a chance to start the new thread so one person doesn’t hog it every time. You can race with your friends, but the first person to start it wins once it gets past 1000 replies - other threads will be merged into one, and the old one will be closed. Don’t be a thread hog!

Remember, the point of 1, 2 and 3 are to try and make it easy for people to find what they are looking for, especially all the new first-timers coming in on the heels of SF4 and MvC3. We need your help to keep our forums uncluttered and our community strong! If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
