With the new v. 2013 patch, roll okizeme became even more interesting with the vulnerable window during tech rolls.
If you cross opponent, who’s holding back, with specific timing after hard knockdown, if they won’t switch guard direction in time, they will automaticly roll in your direction (a.k.a you FORCE them to ROLL**), leaving themselves open for throws, command throws and very ambigious zomfg-which-side-to-block setups. They also can’t reversal it so at the moment they roll, it’s guarantee setup aside from execution/timing issues.
Proof of Concept/ Example
I was in Lab with Akuma and found one midscreen setup for tech roll Demon Flip throw followup, which is also setup’d from his juggle BnB attack (cl.HK)
Anyway I always have fun spending time in Lab with the whole cast (aside from meh-DLC chars) and looking for new techs and I found this technology very interesting, hopefully adding something new to your gameplay and I couldn’t find it anywhere else here so I decided to create a new thread where we can explore setups and gimmicks of Forced Tech Rolls.
Feel free to comment on this tech and post your own setups! Have fun and don’t let SFxTK die!
btw:(first post here, hello everyone)
Edit: Visuals
I found the same concept with Lars and just earlier today with Hwoarang (Hwo’s might be broken in the corner, but I won’t share/show/use Hwo tech). Might work with all fake corpse hop moves. This one is new to me though. The only problem I see is that the opponent has to press back. If he pressed down back your opponent won’t roll.
Do you know whether you can use this to keep your opponent in the corner?
The Lars "force roll"
Didn’t get to use this online yet. I have a specific setup in the corner which reverses my own inputs and forces the opponent to hold forward to block eventhough I’m not crossing him up.
I find it weird to call them force rolls because the opponent doesn’t need to roll and won’t roll if they see what you are doing. When people corpse hop and you don’t want to roll, you just leave the stick at neutral until a few frames before wakeup. Still, the demon palm whiff is a very nice setup.
I might do that, once I figured it out completely. All I will say for now is Mahvel hitboxes.
It has its use, if you can safely prevent the opponent from rolling (or making them roll into the corner) 100% of the time, if you have your timing and setups down.
@Creature_Goon yeah, guy’s bushin flip was pretty much something I was excited about, but after some testing, I think the move is kinda slow and too floaty to setup any roll trap similar to the Deamon Flip one. But I’m sure someone can find a -practical- setup
Meh this tech gets blown up simply by doing nothing. If you want to block an overhead for example wait for the wake up animation and then hold back. This really works only, if your opponent is pressing back (down-back or rather down-forward won’t trigger a roll).
At least it does not allow your opponent to roll past you. They can roll towards the corner at best.
