questions, maybe i didn’t get it right but sagat can chain his lk to 2 lps to tu and 1 more but i forgot
Nah, that’s a combo Shin. I’ll be back to type more in a bit. About to play a set and use Sagat vs Nica. Can’t really use too much of the loop, since he plays Akuma though and can just teleport out, but I’ll try and force it on him and mix it up for a diff perspective.
question is, how much advantage, if any, does he get after a ‘safe’ tk?
Leaves him at 0 frames. One thing to note about his ‘safe’ tk is that regardless if it’s well spaced, the recovery move leaves him open to be hit from low hits. Hence, should he try to Kara TU (or kara anything from that point) a well timed cr.mk will put a stop to it immediately.
Ah ok. Well, for the most part it is not that bad until Sagat pushes you to the corner and especially if he has EX for TSs. Mid-screen, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. It is the usual rush him before he rushes you; bait him and don’t get baited by him; work around the TS scenario.
There are times where the TK will whiff (especially if you have a short hit-box while crouching), so use this moment to take the advantage. If you just continue to block, then your openings will be gladly stolen. Pay attention to his strings/patterns and try your best to capitalize on the openings. Be careful of whether the Sagat leaves openings purposefully just so he can TU when you stick something out…
Also, in your poking with him, you usually want him to stick something out 1st…
If you were FeiLong and knew you were participating in a Street Fighter tournament, what sort of things would be on your mind when taking your opponents into account?
Everyone feel free to post your thoughts in response to this here.
EDIT: I’ll add super/ultra and all that good stuff to the raw format of the match-up info I’m working on later on, but I hope you guys feel where I am taking this. Clean cut to save the meat for the MTUP threads. It will look much better and more organized/neat when it gets finalized.
Anybody have tips against Rose? Man I lost pretty badly to Saq’s Rose…I think it was like 10-4 in his favor. Her throw range and backdash is freaking ridiculous…I swear Soul Spiral is punishable with cr. LP > rekkas but for some reason, Saq’s can simply dash back and be safe…it’s like he can alter the game mechanics so that she’s safe or something lol. Sooo much BS…I can do meaty cr. LK or cr. LP on her and yet she can still throw me out of it…I’m like what? Man so frustrating…not to mention that freakin online makes Fei even more handicapped, making the timing on his links all that much stricter. SIGH I just gone done playing a few more sessions and I won only 1 match out of 10. I just got really sick and tired of chasing down my opponent…ugh, just one of those days where I just hate Fei Long lol.
never fought a good rose, but by looking at her frame data, she has only two moves with invincibility. ex soul spiral, which has 10+ frames of start up, and ex soul throw, which has 6, but hits at a shitty angle.
so in theory when you score a KD, you should be abel to safe jump her all day. figure out how to option select rekkas into your jump in to catch the back dash. she only has one normal that i can think of that would beat CW’s, and thats crouch fierce. so as long as you mk cw at rekka range, im not seeing much she could do about it.
i think you would have done better knowing the matchup more. the soul spiral is negative on block, but like rekkas, if he spaced them right they are harder to punnish. the one thing she has that would really worry me is her ultra setups. its simialar to seth tossing sonic booms when he gets ultra. you have to be really careful because fei has no real way around it, and her ultra does good damage
I play Fei Long at times. He use to be my main in HD Remix. I post some of my strategies.
First of all, beware of Rekkas as they are punishable on block for the most part.
You want to try to do Rekka at a positions when they have little punishment.(Yea with balrog cr. lp it not worth the risk.)
Fei Long Rekkas are pretty fast and long ranged so you can bait attacks and punish from long range. Like if you are bold, you can start the match with HP Rekka and you will reach there b4 he does fireball if he does it.
Fei Long cr. lp and link into LP Rekka which is extremely useful as cr. lp is extremely fast. cr. lp is very good in very close situations and it is particularly fast. In the expert level, you can link cr.lkto cr.lp to LP rekka for a low linker to Rekka.
His Chicken wing is useful in certain situation to catch the opponent off guard. Just be careful using it against shoryu type people as you can eat big punishment. HK Chicken Wing is invincible when it starts so that can take people off guard if they don’t know this property. EX Chicken Wing is not bad because of its speed.HK Chicken wing can get you out of sticky situation when timed out. For example, Fei can use this when he is trapped in a corner.
His Focus attack lvl 2 is really good to do after you knocked down the opponent. I think it will beat shoryu on wake-up as I never had anyone shoryu me out of the FA lvl 2. FA lvl 2 is a great Oki move. His FA is good as well to use when you know you can some attacks.
Tenshin kinda sucks as it is not worth the risk when it misses. The move has too much after delay.
Flame kick kinda sucks as it has little priority. Still it is ok anti-air. EX Flame kick is nice and does decent damage. Punish aerials by that if possible.
vs Zangief
I think the hardest match-up for Fei is Gief. Fei has very little safe option against him.
My advice is to play extremely patient and careful. Gief can pretty much pressure you for free as you have to be close to do most of your moves as well. Rekka is outside of Gief range but it is very punishable by Zangief. Especially don’t do it if he has an Ultra.
Punish Lariat with Rekka when the Lariat ends. Cr. Fierce Punch is your Friend. Also use Rekka only to punish Gief as you eat an SPD/Lariat every time Rekka is blocked.
Vs. Ryu
You can punish Ryu shoryu with Rekka from a particular far range. So bait it if you can. You can punish his Trip(cr.HK) by light rekka combo. You can punish hurricane kick with flame/EX flame kick.
You can HK chicken wing with his fireball but it is not reccommended as Ryu can just can shoryu after that.
FA lvl 2 does wonder against ryu on wake-up. Most ryu players will not do hurricane kick on wake-up so it is pretty good Idea to use it but don’t be too predictable. Some time do FA lvl2. Some times bait it and dash backwards to punish the eventual hurricane kick with your flame kick.
I play Rose as well.
Vs. Rose
Fei vs Rose seems pretty different. Rose can zone Fei Long out with soul spark and her normals. If I were playing Rose, I would play the Zone Spacing Rose Card on Fei as he relies on close range. I could play the offensive Rose and go for cross ups but that up close game plays mainly to Fei Long’s advantage.
She also has the ultra which effective spaces you out even further and limits Fei options. If Fei can get in, then Fei has the advantage but Rose can zone Fei Sagat style like but not nearly as effective as Sagat.
But Up close Fei has the advantage as she has no reliable anti-air. So bait then throwing Rose on wake-up is a decent strategy. EX soul throw doesn’t lack this so be aware of that. The best she can do is block on wake-up as cr. HP and soul throw lacks priority. Blocking is the safest and less risky option for her.
I just hate her weird hitbox…it’s really small and her slide attack makes her even smaller, allowing her to duck your jump ins, cross ups and CWs. I started punishing his backdash attempts after blocked soul spirals with Rekka but sometimes she’ll do EX soul spiral or she’ll just do cr. MP > Soul Spiral again and hit me out. Her throws must have a faster tech timing b/c that shit is hard to tech and the range on her throw is crazy!
Good stuff guys. Thnx for the infoes!
Yeah, I agree 100% with HNIC and k4polo regarding Rose, Tsua. She isn’t really much of a pain until she gets ultra. After that, just pray you have the life lead, because it can get a bit harder. On knockdown, try and dig into her as already mentioned (safe jump/empty jump low/etc etc…use your best mix-ups here). Her offensive is pretty decent because she has solid frametraps and her soul spiral can be made less punishable if spaced right (e.g., well-spaced soul spiral, watch your reaction, ex soul spiral when you tried to punish).
Rekka- good use here
CW- good use here…no dp = if you’ve never incorporated cw into your gameplay, do it here as it will get you in, stop backdash, and allow you to pressure enough to get that juicy life lead and allow you to work less when she has ultra (this means fei has more potential for chip dmg in this match-up)
vs her ultra - try your best to bait it. her ultra is still a reactionary weapon…it is all up to the rose player. neutral jump, jump away, rekka pressure then pause, jump at x-up range, f+mk (trip their cw reaction), etc etc
don’t delay in trying to get in. rose w/o meter = more vulnerable than rose w/ meter as hnic explained
i understand you on playing long sets where you have to be the one who is constantly chasing. it can really be mentally draining if you are having no luck catching and/or landing hits once you get in (throws, pauses for CHs after throw training, cw loops, vortex, overhead, focus loops, etc etc) =P
yeah i hate rose oh regarding your jumpin, if you use mp, it will beat her slide unless she did it at max distance but very unlikely
Rose players tend to slide when you are at peak jump-height to avoid the jump-in as well as take the 1-up on you upon landing. Do not risk a shien here…When you land, MK/RH CW to avoid guessing throw. Mix it up with backdash > jab/strong rekka, backdash > jump-in, backdash > lvl1 > dash up > rh cw, nj, and all those goodies

QUOTE]
I’ve been told recently that my playstyle is best described as constantly applying pressure and trying to pry my opponent open. Which kind of makes sense as I hate blocking and feel more comfortable being on the offensive. I’d seriously keep in mind certain tenshin setups (hit confirmed rekkas to tenshin) and using FADC’ed normals as well as CH strings to keep on top of my opponents.
i just played a rose yesterday. Damn beezy spent 90% of the matches backdashing. shit was annoying. i tried to rekka her but she was able to conitinue backdashing and avoided all three of my rekkas. also, during my obvious chasing, i would get so rapped up in catching her that i wouldnt pay attention to the obvious throw fireball or ex FB during my dashes and i would get hit. she would eventually corner herself, almost seemed like it was on purpose. but then she would magically get out. Then it was off to the other corner and the process would repeat all over again, WTF?!??! the times i did manage to keep her from escaping the corner, she was toast. I think the goal, if she is a run away type of rose, is to let her corner herself/push her there, like with anyone, and just hammer her once u get there. i was able to meaty her all day on wake-up. also a little note, her soul grab thingy was able to beat my CW at times . I cant remember if she did ex or normal, but it did beat it, so be aware of that.
Rose doesnt’ have good stamina so any hit she takes, she’ll take them hard. Go for knockdowns on her. The one thing that she lacks in greatly is a wakeup game as she has none whatsoever. The only thing she can do from her wakeup is backdash or wakeup OST.
Yea, of course the more experienced the Rose, the better their judgment will be on defending your mix-ups. You have to get better at forcing mistakes to be simple.
If the Rose is playing rushdown and kicking your ass, take notes. If she is zoning you out, you’re just playing the game =/
You basically lose mid-screen focus in this match-up because of spiral, so don’t spam it. Use backdash as well and rekka the spiral if you’re that good on baiting it. I have no qualms with baiting an ex sthrow since it is so punishable.
Backdash ALWAYS looks better for the person who has to be chased. Fei has it as well, but you’re more than likely moving forward majority of the match.
This match is purely about player skill to be honest.
Question: I am Rose and zoning you out with Soul Spark, low Fierce, j.Fierce, occasional Soul Throw, and mid-screen kicks/spaced Soul Spiral. What you are looking to do:
-apply rekka pressure (she can hit you out with a poke as can everyone…if they are doing this, let them poke first, you 2nd…if they are over-committed to filling their horizontal to stop rekkas, it might be a good time for a jump/cw and pray you didn’t get baited…also, get in fei’s focus range and the mood should switch up)
-engage in the footsy…fei has good normals, too =P
-look for the fb, ex cw…try not to get baited by ultra if you can’t do it on reaction =(
-focus dash up works ok here, since she doesn’t have recovery a la ryu after soul spark
-walk her to the corner, make her engage in fisticuffs to get out
-focus fbs, to build ultra…save your meter for ex cws and super
-tic throw; use overhead (again, no dp), string into RH CW (it clips backdash), let them backdash and dash up (keep the spacing tight)
Rose HAS to be good at making wise decisions inside. She can’t keep you out forever. Again, her zoning potential grows TREMENDOUSLY when she gets ultra. Thing is, in order to get ultra in this match-up, she has to take dmg. She isn’t focusing fbs here. If she is coming to you, and you’re losing, the Rose player has a better inside game than you do. Period =(
LOL dude, SAME THING HERE! I got so tired of chasing her UGH. Man what a frustrating matchup. But then again, Saqs is a damn good player so no shame in losing to him.
mmmmmm, yes … maybe … but he hates turtling scrubs, nem gets really upset when i just sit at the end of the screen as he keeps on wondering how long does the nature calls last
note : just had a lunch with many respectable FBI’s (mostly exs) and Police force, some of them are heroes, YES THE REAL AMERICAN HEROES !!! had a NY steak and it was medium rare
its not entirely cooked … how can people eat those steak? i only had 5 bites and thats it
will cw be a better chase? instead of rekkas? since rose’s dash is like mmmm, faster than fei which doesn’t make sense to me
Sorry I haven’t been as active in the Fei boards guys, but I’ve been really trying to get better in Tekken 6. I’ll add more info later in the week. I’ve also been playing a bit more Seth as of late (everything he does seems high risk/low reward lol), but Fei is still the champ =)
