New SNK games on the way

“Well if this SS collection turns out like the Last Blade one did?”

If I’m not mistaken though, every one since the Last Blade collection, like Garou Densetsu and KoF 95-97 has been (virtually) perfect? And also, its supposedly going to be six games in one (I hope no one already mentioned that) according to Insert Credit’s front page (www.insertcredit.com), which would be pretty impressive.

“Let’s hope they don’t do something weird and change the artistic style of the characters or something with the revamp. I’m pretty confident they can get it right though, considering they did really well when they had to represent all the iconic characters on the Neo-Geo Pocket.”

I have faith too, but likewise, I wouldn’t want to see a drastic change. New graphics, but in the similar severe, gritty style KoF is known for (it may just be my lack of imagination, but I just can’t imagine it any other way)

Speaking of the NGPC, I’d like to see an Omake mode in the game with Pocket styled graphics

“Question: Why does everyone love Kensou?”

lol, I wonder about that too!

Man I was expecting to come here busting up flamewars and expecting shit like Capcom sucks SNK rules.

You guys dissapointed me.

Umm you should check page 3 to 6 there is enough of that there:wink:

Direct quote from Iggy at Madman’s Cafe:

“KOF 98 Ultimate Match
Online, color Edit.
Choose between original (MVS game) and arrange mode.
Arrange : more characters, more modes, small fixes (including new moves for some characters ?)
New characters confirmed : Geese, Kasumi, Eiji, Ky with his new clothes.
Terry has the buster wolf.”

Another post:

"On KOF 98 Ultimate Match :

The arrange mode has an “Ultimate Match” logo. The original mode has the regular logo, it seems to be a complete port with just the online and the color edit added.

The arrange mode has several new modes over the regular arrange and extra (a total of four ?) the select screen was not shown yet. Characters in the trailer : Ky, Iori, Kasumi, Geese, Terry, Ky in regular clothes, Lucky, Omega Rugal. In the gackground, Vice, Mature, Eiji, Goenitz, Robert, Kim and some others were waiting. (Character waiting are still here ! thank god ! and Goenitz!)
New energy (green, then red) and power gauge (somehow like the N groove in CvS2, except the stocks were shown as a number).
An alternative (with the same old clothes) Terry was doing some sort of fire kick SC Buster Wolf.
Ky in regular clothes has the 182 shiki.
Kasumi has hes super throw.
Omega Rugal has his 02 teleport attack.

The winning drawings were Shinkir-ish, and not the regular 98 ones. Not sure if it was him, but since Shinkir is freelance, it might be.
The game is not high reso like 94 Rebout, but it seems a bit more clean (?)
Also, when asked if they could release this version of 98 in the arcades, they answered they were thinking about it and it would depend of the reception of the game.

Ij.
The guy wasn’t sure of all this, he will come back tomorrow and check everything again. The video was shown only twice, while the MI:A one was running almost everytime."

Yes indeed. Gameplay is more important than graphics but a game that has both good gameplay and good graphics is even better.

I heard that too. I was going to import SS Tenka but now that I hear that I’ll probably wait for the SS collection.

Has anybody heard anything about FF Battle Archives 2 or World Heroes Collection?

I’m pretty sure I remember reading about the next Garou Densetsu set, which would cover the Real Bout games… don’t know where I read that though. As for World Heroes; your guess is as good as mine.

“Gameplay >> Graphics”

I’m sick of hearing this… I think it should be taken for granted but it seems that companies could use it as an excuse to be lazy. For the record for me the biggest problem with graphics in fighting games is that the characters need to look like they belong in the same game; none of this Capcom pulling Morrigon from Vampire and hoping no one notices… thats just plain lazy.

Speaking of the supposed “new” sprites in KOF XII, I would be happy to see the newer characters redrawn so they’re less anime happy and fit better with the rest of the cast. Characters like Kula, K’, and Dualon just feel really out there and feel really strange when put next to older characters (or even characters new to KOF from other series!) Not that I’d want to advocate a total reimagining, I think they could still be a little off the wall if thats what SNKP sees for them. But we had fairly off the wall characters in Chang and Whip, but they never felt like that they were part of a totally different universe of characters like these new guys do. So I’m interested to see how SNKP responds.

“I noticed that Tenka is in the Samurai Spirits Collection.”

I missed this post. Where did you hear about that DG? Like I said, Insert credit speculates that it’ll be all the MVS titles (1-4, Zero, and Zero SP.) I’m kind of hoping its that way cos Tenka feels more like a compilation title then part of the main series… and because I already ordered my copy groans

I can agree for the most part, but I’d say that K’ fits in pretty well… I’m still wondering how the hell Ash actually got put into the game…

Well, I have faith in SNKP …, I hope they just put some effort into this product and then turns hopefully something good out of their work … SS is anyway a more important series for SNKP, seen in their efforts the last few years. Well, I like that, SS, SF and FF are my fav series so I hope everything there gets some good new games or compilations.

Guess I’ll post this before a stupid Graphics vs. Gameply argument breaks out…

Okay, here’s a little compendium of the KOFs news from neo-arcadia (don’t have much time so it’ll be a little raw a translation)

KOFXII

-Nona, illustrator/chara designer from SNKP annonced during the TGS that KOFXII would be the first game featuring a whole new graphic revamping.

  • KOFXII, as expected, will be the last game of the “Ash and his friends” storyline.
  • The game, like XI, will feature many hidden charas irrelevant to the storyline.
  • There will more older charas than new ones and the two first confirmed are Ash and Elizabeth
  • After something like 2 days of continuous questions, Nona finally declared:" “We’re throwing out the [character> pixels that we have been using for the past 10 years, and we are going with new graphics […] We are hoping to make the ultimate 2D game.”
  • SNKP folks said the game is about 50% made.

^ Damn o0

Maybe they’ll overhaul the voices too? One can hope. The difference from the audio in early Street Fighter III to 3s is big, I know we’ve all sorta grown used to, “Awl yoo reddey?” but new voices for certain characters would be very welcome to me.

They aren’t going to go screw over their crop of long-standing voice actors to seek out new folk for the non-asian characters when they have been using the same asian actors for years. There’s a reason they haven’t changed: the current group, as well as the audio, is doing just fine. So some non-japanese has a problem with the voices…everyone else, especially in Japan, either likes the voices, or doesn’t care one way or the other. Maybe you’d prefer to have the voice samples from the dubbed kof MI in place of the standard engrish?

I can’t help but laugh at this statement.

And the game is already 50% complete? Right…

They heve been using the same stuff for ten years and now in a ONE YEAR period they are going to redraw and reanimate everything? You people need to get the fuck back on earth.

Of course if everything Nona said is true it will be awesome but I have my reasons to be skeptic. Oh, and if they don’t give kof’s gameplay a MAJOR revision, this whole new graphic thing won’t mean shit to me. I’m really sick of this roll/hop fest that the game has become.

50% completion doesn’t mean 50% of the development time is over. Maybe the 50% complete is the pre-existing engine and they’re gonna spend another 3 years on the graphical 50%.

…seriously.

how about they was working on the characters pre XI, that could be a reason.

If SNK is moving away from the tedious task of drawing each character pixel by pixel and using more modern techniques that the animation industry uses then they could conceivably revamp the graphics in a one or two year time span. But, if they’re doing something like GGX which just uses very large sprites than it could take quite a while.

Actually thats true I read on cyberfanatix news section that when they were about to release XI that they already stated that have started on XII (which at the time said wasn’t going to be the offical name).

I hope it’s possible for SNKP to improve KoF graphics without compromising their sprite style. When a person says that KoF sprites look ugly, it’s hard to tell if they mean to say that the quality is poor or they just don’t like their style. With that in mind, I’m kinda worried that KoFXII sprites are gonna end up looking more cartoony.

You don’t have to give me that gameplay > graphics mess because I play mugen. If it gets a US PS2 port I’ll get it even if it looks like Alpha sprites(not to say that they are bad).

Hey I’m not suggesting they just chuck the voice actors they have, they, unlike many genres have used the same people for years and years and people have grown accustomed to the voices, but I wouldn’t mind if they redid all the audio. I wouldn’t be against them asking the VOs to work with people to sound as universal as the characters they represent. You know, sorta like actors.

Cute, word a question in a way so it only works in your favor to feel smart. I’d prefer to have voices that were more universal, like the cast. I understand the pitfalls of this (I prefered Soul Calibur before I understand what they were saying, hearing “Too slow!”, “Here’s another!”, and “Take this!” times ten is not fun.) Though I’m sure with some coaching the voice actors, like well…actors could sound a bit more genuine than they currently do, it’s not like they have a heck of a lot to say in english anyhow.

the only beef i had with the visuals of KOF series was that the allot (not all) of the characters motions were stiff and choppy, but i still like to play it.
i have to admit; i really do drool over alot of 2d graphics (i find cgi kinda ugly and awkward for the most part), and i almost exclusively watch cartoons if i am trying to watch a movie. I just find 2d animation very aesthetic.
now if they update the graphics to fix that (the stiff/choppy-ness) in the new revision and keep solid kof gameplay and movesets; bonus.
hope it comes out for xbox
hahaa
