New player can't decide on a main

Hello I have been playing for almost half a year and I have been playing Ryu as a starter and I feel like I need a proper main. I have some idea of who but there’s so many characters that feel rewarding to play. Yun , E.Ryu, Sagat, Fei Long, and finally Cammy these characters are all fun to play for me but I can’t learn them all. So I wanted to know if anyone can help me finalize my choice?

Pick Evil Ryu, since you already play regular Ryu. Their playstyle is similar (but not the same) and Evil Ryu is regarded as probably the best character in the game right now.

You have the ability to learn them all, you just don’t think you can yet. You’ll eventually learn them anyways once you lose to a certain character at an important time and event (at least, that’s how I did it. I lost to said character feeling unsatisfied? I make sure to use the opponent’s character and learn the in’s and out’s to know what it is like in their shoes.)

If you want my opinion, and as not as much help as it can provide, all I can say is for your main character, you should be using a character that both feels the most fun, and gives you the most satisfactory results in battle. From there, you are going to have to theorize on which characters to use for your bad match-ups. Some players, even good ones, haven’t fully establish good pocket characters. If you feel like it’s too early, don’t worry about it.

A few reputable players in my local scene have told me to stick to one character you’re familiar with until you learn inside/outsides of the game mechanics and can play that character well before trying to pick up new characters, or else you run the risk of just ending up knowing a few characters at a mediocre standard while still not having any decent fundamentals.

If your execution is already on-point from a half year of playing, then I second the suggestion to play E. Ryu.
If not (I played on and off for a year and a bit now, and I still don’t have consistency to land E.Ryu combos during actual matches), then just stick to Ryu, whom you’re already familiar with.

A lot of people shit on Ryu, but I don’t think he’s really BAD at all (decent footsie tools, 3f DP, easy set ups for ultra, can hit confirm into hard knockdown, easy combos with exception of f.HP link cr. HP which isn’t that hard anyway).

I feel like this should be the best way to go first learn everything there is to learn with Ryu then once I feel like I have hit a wall with him move to E. Ryu thank you all so much if you want to play a new player lol my PSN is Bishopsy I’ll soon be moving to Xbox and PS4 when it comes out.
