Ah, I was going to write a blog or perhaps start a topic about what people thought was going to be the other fighting game announced/shown at E3 which Keits recently said he was privy to. This could be that game or perhaps there’s yet another fighting game to be hyped about (KI3? Please let it be so!). A new MK was definitely at the top of my list (I also mentioned this in the UMK3 thread). The fact of the live action pitch being shown recently, some tournament interest in classic MK, SF being successful in returning to it’s roots etc. a new 2D MK to be released/shown was simply in the air, so to speak. Enough of that discussion though…
This game looks badass, just hope it plays as good as it looks, if not better. I share some of the concerns about MK controls being clunky, the game not being very fluid etc. I could care less about it being the goriest MK ever, but the effects actually look cool and not cartoony/cheesy. I also hope they don’t recycle/have carbon copies of fatalities. Well, if Kung Lao’s fatality is an indication, fatalities will be pretty good. I’m hyped, can’t wait to see more of this game. Hope it doesn’t turn to crap or become broken.
I was thinking maybe they’d go with HD digitized sprites of live actors, but that may date it too much. Well, it depend on how well it would turn out. Still, I think this direction is great.
the only mk game i haven’t bought was the mk vs dc one even though they aren’t that great and wind up getting broken early i think they can still make an ok game. i think this latest one is a step in the right direction, people just gotta stand up to the directors of the game and let them know what works and what doesn’t.
First off, I wanna say that I am hype as hell to see this trailer. Looks pretty good. It looks like air combos are back, sorta? Mileena and Sektor lookin’ top tier for some reason, we got air juggles, Sub-Zero’s got a new sick throw animation and unique fatalities and stage fatalities are back. You could tell the game was made from scratch this time around but it seems like they’ve taken some ideas from Armageddon and polished it up.
I’m not sure if it’s in a 2D or 2.5D plane. Either way is fine to me. Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon were my games. If it’s 2D then strafing / side-stepping is one less thing to worry about. It also looks like the stance mechanic is gone which would be yet another less thing to worry about. I’m sure nobody cares about that although I thought it was fun. The fighting stances would probably turn new players off anyway 'cause it’s a bit complicated to get used to at first. I remember the infinites in Armageddon where it required you to switch stances like crazy, lol.
I hope I am not seeing “assist” mechanics but I think I am. Mortal Kombat with assists?! Why?! It doesn’t need assists, dammit! They already did it to the Naruto games (Ultimate Ninja and the Clash of Ninja series)! Whatever. I think I’ve found my new main game for real. Nightwolf all day. And Sub-Zero assist will be Magneto tier, lol. Combo, Sub-Zero assist, combo.
I’m surprised it’s not called “Mortal Kombat 9”. I guess they want a fresh new start. I wanna see more trailers with more characters. No Scorpion?!
This is a first. I never would expect someone to actually claim who is top tier from a damn trailer. You saw some juggles and that was it. How can you say who is top tier when you don’t even know what a 1/4 of the cast can do? FG trailer tier rankings. Amazing.

And if Noob Saibot is going to be in this then they probably won’t pair him up with Smoke again since they have a real assist mechanic this time. Noob-Smoke was top tier in Deception. I’d play with Noob alone though.
MK2 was the first fighting game I played. I was three years old throwing force balls and doing cage’s mulitple head uppercut glitch. Ive played EVERY MK game made (besides shaolin monks and special forces) and of them all my favorite is UMK3. The new Mk games are ok for fucking around with friends but they have so little depth its embarrassing.
This new trailer brings back the 2d I love, the multi layered gameplay that kicks so much ass, and more importantly the attitude. I love 2d MK, I love that they are bringing it back, and I love kung lao ripping people in half.
Heres hoping this game will live up to its roots. MY roots.
I don’t know, man. The game is called “Mortal Kombat”. I don’t know where the storyline is but it’s possible that they could be going back to the beginning meaning Ermac and Havik might not be in. I’m not even sure of the roster size either. Can anyone confirm on storyline and / or expected roster?

Good lord this game looks amazing. If the gameplay is great I could see this going to EVO unless some dumbass stipulations get in the way of it going to evo.
