New mortal kombat is coming

I think Boon realizes they need to get back to what made MKII and UMK3 so popular. The games had great core 2D gameplay, and werent just about gore and flash. They were just good fighting games. They have seen what has happened with SF. Hell, I didn’t even know MK was already up to the 9th iteration. After MK4 I haven’t given any attention to a single MK since… Then my friend sent me the link to the MK9 trailer and I got an instant boner. I’m a believer this time.

I don’t think Ed Boon realizes anything. He will say whatever it takes to get people to buy his games and then let the disappointment fade over the course of a year or so and release an update that “fixes all the flaws of the previous game and introduces new gimmicks”. If he really thinks he’s doing what the fans want, he is delusional. We have to wait and see how close this game comes to what fighting game fans want, or at least the MK players and not the MK fans. It’s very easy to satisfy the MK fans, but the MK players have been neglected for 13 years.

As long as Special Forces exists, tragedy can strike again.

Never forget imo.

I never really knew just how bad it was. I always pretended it didn’t exist.

Here’s hoping Boon and co. can make another fantastic game by accident. That’s probably asking too much of them.

Agreed.

Agreed.

Looks like the only thing they got right was the MK Dragon

Scorpion with a solid keepaway game.

I told yo dumbass to stay out of this thread. Post in here again and i will have you dealt with.

Friendship? Again?

btw, that beefed up clown in special forces isn’t scorpion, but some idiot named tremor with jack’s ground pound move

That reminds me, I think the babalities, friendships, animalities, and brutalities should all return, including some new finishing techniqies.

Also, I noticed they take advantage of the 3D with the front and back facing instances of moves. Sektor’s first TPU is facing the screen when he drops, facing away when he hits, the second is facing away when he drops, and facing forward when he hits. When Sektor lands facing away from the screen on the first TPU, and then his next JK which seems to me done seamlessly, just like it would be done in UMK3 for example .The JK keeps him facing away and the canceling into the next one stays that way too and the second TPU connects facing the screen instead. I noticed this immediately on Mileena’s TPKs as well. I wonder if this depends on player side, or specifically if you neutral frame/glitch cancel. When Kung Lao does his hat throw, the roundhouse after, his animation stays facing away from the screen as it seems the kick comes right after recovery, this seems like a good way to keep animation fluid, but hopefully it doesn’t act like a 3D game in this instance, or mess up priorities.

it’s just the 1st trailer i dont think the gameplay will be like that E3 will tell us

Quite frankly no.

Lets all be serious for a moment. The chances of them nailing BALANCED gameplay is pretty fucking small. At this point most of us are just hoping for slightly workable and not totally retarded gameplay. Even though its even more broken i’ll take trilogy over MKDA/D/A almost every time because it felt a HELL of a lot better, and at that point it’s fanservice anyways.

Now that said if you look at MKA it really is an outstanding failure. Sure they balance sucks and the core engine is crap. Big fucking surprise. Whats shocking is the fact that they managed to not even have fatalities for most of the cast, but instead a CAF system which wasn’t even finished(although i’ll go ahead and say that if it had been done, with unique endings for each character it would’ve been quite interesting), and in general the whole thing was a fucking mess.

Of coursee midway is incompetent and Boon doesn’t quite care past a point, but part of the problem was just the insane amount of content. You have a full fledged single player(…sorta), an insane number of characters all requiring moves, fatalities(well…supposed to), and some balance(…), and finally for some stupid fucking reason a TERRIBLE cart game.

In short my key point here is that if you want a GOOD(standard for good here is that at least its fun with your friends for casuals and great nostalgia fuel, fuck competitive standards at this point) MK game stop asking for every fucking character and 38 ways to kill their opponent while having EVERY SINGLE FUCKER represented. I mean christ did Meat need to fucking return? Really?

Anyway this is pretty much a giant rant aimed at no one, but whatever. Here’s hoping they don’t totally fucking fail.

that!

How the hell could you forget KOF XIII?

I really feel bad for the MK fans getting hype over this because deep down we all know this will just be a 2D piece of shit instead of a 3D piece of shit.

Exactly.

The effort to include every damn character and every possible gimmick “-ality” is best reserved for things that actually matter. Like making the actual cast, backgrounds and fighting the best it can actually be. I’ll give Boon and co a pat on the back for putting effort in fleshing out the story aspect of the game, it’s the only thing that interests me to be honest nowadays in the series and I wish that SF put some of that effort in its story and character backgrounds- But to do so at the expense of everything else is ludicrous. The SF series has only 4 numerical installments, all of which are still being played TODAY casually and competitively. NOTHING should precede a quality fighting engine and balance, everything else is secondary.

MK is known for its trademark gore and guts, but to be honest they all come off as too cartoony to be taken seriously. The only fighting game that I ever came across that I felt is genuinely SICK (in the best meaning of the word) is Thrill Kill. That game took the gore, guts and violence to a level that MK could never achieve in recent times.

If this game is truly a series reboot, I would’ve hoped that Boon and co would’ve taken a chance and re-imagined the MK universe and characters with a more series, realistic approach (like some of the concept art that was released), instead of being a parody of itself. I’ve seen the trailer many times, each time my fears are cemented further - This game will be utter shit.

My GF is gonna be all over this game. Hopefully people end up playing this competitively.
