New MBAA PS2 Thread! Final Round 14 Around the Corner! FREE MBAACC Update This Spring

For those of you running it on an emu and wanting a clearer picture, the game has a progressive scan mode option. Hold Triange + Cross when the game first boots up before you get to the memory card loading screen. You’ll get a page with Japanese. Select the top option twice.

Side note, poor man’s way to unlock everyone:
Neco Arc Chaos: Beat Arcade mode with Hisui and White Len
Schoolgirl Akiha: Beat Arcade mode with both Akihas
Neco Arc & Mech Hisui: Beat Arcade mode with Miyako
Kohaku & Mech Hisui: Beat Arcade mode with Neco Arc on her A-path. You’ll know you have this if you fight them on the first match.

The Mech Hisui pairs aren’t playable in arcade mode, so if you unlock them and go “Where the heck are they?” like I’ve seen a few people do, check your training mode select screen.

Just now realized: H-Ryougi is just way more better than C-Ryougi. Her standing A normals are just amazing on the ground and in the air. 5C hits REALLY far! Saved my life a ton of times last night

So someone told me that Neko Arc Chaos got mad buffs but is still shit.

Likewise Mech/Neko is apparently shit as well. This game hates me or something. How do these guys do it?

It’s telling you to play real characters

frustratedsquirrel: Have you tried the different grooves to see if one gives a moveset you feel more at home with? Only thing I’m noticing with NAC is while he’s improved, he still does low damage compared to some folks.

Well the biggest problem with the neko characters is that they have a hard time dealing damage if the opponent decides to run away. And that still hasn’t been really fixed yet.

Anyway, Mech/Neko has alright okizeme so that’s ok I guess.

Also, these are real characters. They still go by all the same rules of the game, their hitboxes aren’t so small as to be unmanagable, and it’s not like characters being ‘abnormal’ is a bad thing. In TvC, PTX-40A has won a few tournaments because despite being different from the rest of the cast, it still has tricks it can use to win.

How did you get ending B? Thank you!

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. Pick Half Moon. If you need ending A, just pick Crescent Moon Neco-Arc.

i used to main nac (lol) in mbac for a while.

Here’s my input on him in AA.

C - HE HAS NERO DEER. Like legit, 421 series. This is quite frankly amazing, although the ex version is a comedy one where he rides on the thing and you press attack buttons to make it leap around. (HEY, TAXI). Everything else is the same as old nac though. The deer recovery is pretty good. you can use the a version in the same way as you would Nero 421a. That basically gives him some better pressure options at the end of strings and the like and more ground control. I think lasers have been buffed in recovery.

F - All his old chargable normals are now actual uncharged normals and are very fast. That is pretty beasting, but he loses the deer for fnero ground bugs, which he kind of surfs on. Bad move. His lasers are defaulted to being aerial lasers which are horrible. Normals being uncharged is really good but the mediocrity of the rest of his specials lets it down a lot. You can however drop out crows with 22 series that are timed dive based which are nice and the ex version is a great laugh, he rides on the crow and can fly around and spam buttons to fire lasers.

H - Standing ground normals are the same as C, charge for them, but his crouching and aerial attacks are exactly as neco arc’s are ie shit range but pretty fast. Backdash is nerfed, crouch block doesn’t move backwards, no cigarette poke. 22 series is a command throw, ex teleports you to them before he does it. Really easy to tick into 22a, range is big, damage is kind of meh though. ground 236 series replaced for gouken style crows, 236a is horizontal and 236b is anti air whilst 236c is hnero gatling crows. j236 is aerial lasers which are bad but better than forcing him to jump to do them fromt he ground only. Teleport series changed for no real reason, A version moves forward, C moves backwards, B makes a bug pop out where he was at the time of the teleport that launches but can’t be combo’d off.

All in all, he gets a lot of what he needed, but it’s kind of split across the styles and he still doesn’t have a good airdash. If you’re really insisting on playing a comedy character neco arc is the best bet possible because NA herself has always been semidecent anyway, good pressure/mixups at close range, fuzzies, tech bait combos with good damage, dizzy setup, etc. It’s just her range buggered the fuck out of her.

But give someone else a try man, don’t be like me and waste the best part of a year trying to use dumb gimmicks to beat people better than you.

Yeah, please listen to this.

It’s not picking the ‘joke’ characters that bothers me, it’s thinking that you’ll actually get something out of them and the game itself by picking them. They did such a great job that defaulting to any of the ‘joke’ teams is such a waste of your time.

Or you know…the game designers could wisen up and actually make these supposed ‘joke’ characters competant. I would be pissed off if I was the one having to do the artwork and animations for these characters only for them to be purposefully weaker than the rest of the cast.

I also severely doubt that they intended them to be scoffed at and ridiculed as useless, especially since NaC was actually BUFFED. why would you buff a joke character who is meant to lose anyway?

Irony.

Before this post I could take or leave Neco Ark Chaos

Now I just want to spend my time in the game riding on a crow shoting frikkin lazer beams out of my eyes.

Man he sure seems to have taken a level in awesome. rushs to emulator to get him unloacked

Be mad all you want, you can play NAC and you’ll likely never win a tournament ever with him. It’s just the way it is. Now you can either spend all your time playing a horrible character that’s supposed to be bad on purpose and hate yourself for it, or you can learn a “real” character. The latter will probably make you enjoy the game more.

This conversation is like a reoccurring nightmare.

at least it’s not about ex characters

I’m not really fussed about the nekos/teams being crap. I’ve come to accept that and I wouldn’t play them seriously (well…maybe Kohaku + Hisui) but it’s an awful shame that there should be purposefully weak characters in any game. It’s a dumb trend that should have stopped after MvC2. I just find the Nekos and team characters to have a cool design. there’s something charming about how cartoony these characters are. I’d love it if they were actually useable though, despite being humorous just saying. I see no reason why they shouldn’t be.

Anyway if I’m going to pick a ‘real’ character it’d probably be Kohaku or one of the Lens.

hay gaiz, ITT we ignore the hojillion chars that are viable competetively and complain about the few that were put in just for some extra fun.

I agree.

Considering that this is supposedly the last MB game, it would have been nice for the joke characters to actually be… you know… good for once.

I LOVE Neko-Arc’s design. Her voice needs some tweaking though, as it seems a bit too low. Lower than it was in MBAC.

C-Neko Arc vs. H-Aoko

C-Neko Arc vs. H-Tohno

Either people are losing to Neko-Arc on purpose, out of pity, or they are just really bad at the game. Methinks that it’s the latter.

And before anyone rags on me for playing NA, I do main a “real character” - Arcueid.

My alt. will most likely be one of the Akiha’s or Neko-Arc.

Nekos > Dan.
