The boot discs can not be downloaded and played on PS2. You can’t boot PS2 backups without a chip or a gameshark2. The flip top is so that you can swap discs easier. It’s worth it if you don’t want to do the knife swap(s).
Yes, there is also one that just came out that’s supposed to detect the xbl and turn itself off. However I would always recommend a switch, at least if you mess up it’s your own fault. Most likely MS will get whatever chip works, then send a nice little bios update to setect it. Since the switch physically disconnects the chip, it will be impossible to detect.
Exactly. The boot discs that are in question CANNOT be downloaded since they are filled with intential error tracks that all CD-Burners will attempt to auto-correct. In fact, I know one guy who attempted to insert the CD into his computer and Windows just locked up on him. These discs are also in a set because one handles CDRs and the other handles DVDrs. If you can only get your hands on CDRs and you already have a Gameshark, then go with the fliptop solo. If you have DVDR access, then land the combo package.
Also, you can go to Gamestop and they can just tell you what kind of credit you can get before you decide on what you’re going to do. I know that means getting up and going out, but by jove good man, you must do things in order for you to make things happen!

Did anyone try reading the discs in a dvd-burner? they have to be able to be made somehow.
Oh duh, that’s right. DC has spoiled me.
You mean even with the boot discs you can’t just press eject and insert your import or legitimate backup? So I assume you would have to swap while the disc is still spinning? Jeez, and this system’s $200!!?! Eh, I don’t have any imports or legitimate backups anyway. I don’t have illegitimate backups either.
But the outside hurts!!! It’s that damn sun.
Discs that are mass produced are pressed, not burned. Now I’m not sure what pressed really means, but I’m assuming it means the same as if we were talking about how coins are made.
As for the disc having errors and whatnot, there must be a recorder out there with the proper raw read and raw write capabilities to be able to burn it properly. I’ll have to check on that.
Doesn’t Nero allow you to turn off auto-correct when you’re burning a cd? I’m sure I’ve seen that option in there somewhere.
Is there a painless way to play PS2 backups? All of this stuff sounds like too much of a hassle to bother with. Might as well play (gasp) legit.
If you guys want. I can demonstrate how the Knife/Pin swap works whenever I bring my PS2 to the next MvC2 tourney.
I think that’s okay Orville. Anyone who’s been over my house has seen my naked PS2.
Anytime I get company. People who come over for the first time say “What…THE FUCK HAPPENED TO YOUR PS2!?”.
Yes, lots of cd mastering programs support some kind of raw read/write capability. However, it all depends on whether or not your hardware supports it properly.
There doesn’t appear to be a painless (read: lazy man’s way) method currently.
Wow, look at my new sig compared to this entry.
OMG PSX Puzzle Fighter goes for $60-$85 on eBay. I have this game!
So what’re you waiting for? Post that shiznit up! Look what I’m getting for my stone age processor!

Now I’m dumping a whole bunch of excess computer components I have lying around. Might sound like a bunch of nickle and diming, but I’m cleaning up the clutter once and for all and starting to work on toward the future. Prepare for my March tournament soon.

I sold my MAS.
Yeah, the best way is too get a old gameshark (not version 2) for ps2, and have a ps2 that is about a year old and do the game swap trick with the gameshark. No hassle, no chip, and that is the easiest way that i know, because i do it.
I download and play copied games all the time, gameshark only cost me $30. You dont need to have the little GS peice in it also while you playing, but you can use it if you wanna use some codes for your copied games. My ggxx japan version is copied
