New-ish style

since i was poor at “digital painting” i tried to go for cell style… the results were pretty bizzare, yet… interesting… ended up with an effect of a psuedo-fusion of 3D cell-shading style and vector art

1st attempt
a doodle, that i colored and “inked” digitally., dont mind the BG too much. tried to add warms spots, but they dont seem to fit in that well…

2nd attempt, this one, i did more seriously… i did away with warm spots, and stuck with a 4 tone color…

opinions? suggestions?

i for one love it. any chance you can show us a step by step process? b+w first? drawn in ps? scanned line art?
i assume it was done in ps? or am i wrong?
either way i enjoy the color choices, and the handeling of them. the second i feel is stronger in general.

^well, it’s simple really, jsut like the common way most people would color digitally… i used PSCS2 btw…

i inked my sketch on PS, then added flats… then the darker tones, then highlights. using the Brush tool btw… i tried using the pen tool (vector coloring), but i was having a hard time with it… so i simple tried to keep my brushesas smooth as possible…

anyways, here’s something i jsut did a few hours ago.

It looks like you’re tracing over porn images and then tweaking their faces/outfits.
I’d like to see something you drew freehand in that coloring style.
Or using someone else’s b/w lines.

im kinda offended by your assumption, because,… sure, i used images/real pictures (japanese idol photobooks to be xcat, not exacly porn) as references, espcially on female proportions and poses…

but i certainly, DID NOT simply trace images…

i’ve been practicing drawing in “realistic”, and you wouldnt believe how many hours (and lack of sleep), i’ve been goin’ thru just to practice and improve my drawings, (for the sake of our portfolio building in school)…

it just pains me to be accused of ‘simply tracing’.
i can show you pages of pencil work if ya want…

im being honest and sincere here.

peace.

This style is definitely interesting. I do feel that you can push your value range more as it looks too timid. Lighting feels a bit flat and bubbly. Colors are fine. Overall very good stuff. That wouldn’t happen to be a Natashi Yi pic you used for reference on the last pic would it?

nice to hear from you
what do you mean by value range? ehe, and the lighting? hrmm, i’ll take note of that…

i dunno who natashi yi is, but hehe, time for google,

I know, I’ve seen those pictures before.
Hence the comment.
If you didn’t you didn’t, I’m just telling you what it looks like as a first impression.

Sure.

Here is a value tut I did a while back which explains some more of it.

Hope to see more works man.

I agree with sfmc that it’s a little flat and bubbly however I don’t see Natasha YI haha. I kinda like that flat look of it. If you’re not confortable with the pen tool, try using the freeform pentool. You draw out shapes like a regular pencil/brush tool but it will clean it up for you.

here’s the pencils (well, one of them), this was the one i traced.

@SFMC - thanks, i get… will keep that in mind/refer in my next drawing

i’m diggin your style, and i esp. like the first pic. it looks the most original of the ones you’ve posted. i mean it looks like you drew her straight out of your head, with the help of references and such, i’m sure. anyway, keep it up.

well, i too like the 1st one’s concept… but it’s obviously the least refined digitial link out of the 3 :stuck_out_tongue: and the coloring is not that… good… hehe, signs of being experimental

maybe i’ll tweak it up, im not too fond of the BG… anyways…
