New(ish) Feature at Sonic Hurricane

This week’s entry is just some cosmetic Raiden trivia. Next update will be more interesting.

There are no new clips this week unless you’re an SRK Premium Member. Screenshot previews of those clips are listed under “Pending Entries” and as always, they’ll be released publically in two weeks.

I’ve got a couple more screenshots for you guys. Next week i’ll pick up with the video clips again. To be honest, making the notebook screenshots has become my favorite part of this whole project. The entire set has come out looking pretty good i think.

It’s not all that hard to figure out what’s going on once you’ve seen that it’s possible and given the Hibiki clue.

Also, in case anyone cares, i’ve uploaded an MPG version of the old Steel Rain video for random minor reasons of my own.

Three new video clips up in the notebook section. The first time i explained the fireball realignment glitch, the clips were really basic just for the sake of clarity. The second time, the clips were a little more interesting, but really just there to prove that it works in CvS as well as CvS2. This is the last time i plan on focusing on that glitch, and these clips are a little more crazy-looking. Don’t worry about reading most of the text because it’s all really technical and specific explanations. Just read the last paragraph.

Next week i’ll have the clips for the backwards running screenshots under the “pending entries” section.

Finally updated notebook with those reverse run video clips. Go check 'em out. And if you haven’t already, check out SRK front page for James Chen’s crazy new 22-minute video that i helped make.

This week’s clips are just a couple of weird stylish combos that don’t require any kind of a setup, but they are still unusable in real matches. I enjoy them though. The weird thing is that i found out about the principle a year ago, while just messing around during an Evo casual match. It just took this long to figure out what i wanted to do with it (and also cuz i was hoping someone else would use it first, but that didn’t happen).

Just as fair notice - the notebook updates are going to get a whole lot less regular from here on out. If it’s going to happen, it’ll happen on a Monday just like before, but i’m going to miss way more weeks than i cover.

Your notebook is interesting but confusing. I don’t quite get the rapid fire thing or how it would come into effect in a game but the run thing is pretty cool. Think there’ll ever be a practical use for whiffing rapid fire chains in a combo? The Hibiki c.HP whiff cancel thing is pretty cool too, I gotta try that sometime.

Btw, I’m the owner of the random store that played K kyo, hibiki, and Rock. I might be holding some console tournaments soon and was wondering if you were interested.

The rapid fire thing isn’t supposed to serve any purpose in matches. It’s just a style thing. It’s cool if you don’t like it. Only a few people enjoy any given thing i do. That’s how it works when you make weird unusual stuff.

I realize some of the explanations get a little elaborate, encrypted, and confusing. But i get the impression that nobody really reads those anyway. So i just write them the way i like, which isn’t necessarily the most straightforward way to explain what’s going on.

As for the console tourney, i would like to be there but your store is pretty far from where i live and i can never guarantee that i’ll have access to a car on any given day. I just happened to be in Anaheim that one day to take care of something. MrWizard told me about Xaos so i dropped by during lunch (and stayed too long). It’s really interesting what you guys are doing and i wish you luck.

I just wanted to say keep up the good work. It’s really interesting to see all the little tidbits of information you are getting out of the game. I know you don’t seem to get too much feedback from it on these forums, but I for one look forward to every update.

Thanks Pimp Willy. With any luck, i’ll still be around finding more interesting stuff in CvS2 for as long as anybody plays it.

Majestros: What ever happened to the Guile Tactics vid? Will you be doing any more updates to it? I thought your rapid fire vid was sick… ive been playing around with a similar but equally useless concept, which involves whiffing a standing short between a cr. lk and flash kick in order to combo them…i thought it was pretty cool but i havent found any other applications for it so far, maybe u could find something?

I don’t know about the Tactics vid. It’s still on my to do list, but all this other stuff winds up taking priority. It’s not so easy to find time to go to (famous) people’s houses and play CvS2 anymore.

The technique you mentioned is way more prominent in ST because if you chain rapid fire weak attacks, they lose cancelability. So with Ryu you can do c.LK xx super fireball, but you can’t do c.LK c.LK xx superfireball. That’s when you have to start kara-canceling chained weak attacks. It’s kind of an old trick, though it became known after the height of ST popularity so nobody really went back and learned it. But of course Japanese players like Diago do it cuz the game is still played in Japan. Anyway i included an explaination of it all in the recent Brady SF:AC Guide.

In CvS2 the applications are really limited but the stuff does show up in random Sai-Rec combos if you look closely enough. Mostly it’s there to extend charge times or avoid neutral states or something like that.

I added three new preview screenshots to the notebook index page. The corresponding clips are available in the Premium Members forum and will be available publically in two weeks along with explanations. The first clip has one OTG, the second has two OTGs, and the third has five OTGs.

I just wanted to say your site is off the chain. Keep up the good work.

There’s a new reference article up. Buk’s sticky thread already links directly to it, but i guess this is the official release. It’s a very early draft and later revisions will have a number of changes as more and more content is added, but it’s a pretty decent basic framework right now. A lot of people ask questions about notation so i figured i’d write up a guide for the universal stuff. I’ll add more game-specific stuff as i go.

RagingStormX:
Thx. Glad you like.

Isn’t forward (:r:) normally referred to as towards, so as not to confuse it with forward (:mk:)?

Forward as a kick button isn’t really used very often anymore. Sometimes people will say “low forward fireball” but there’s always that word “low” or “standing” or “meaty” in front of it to clarify that they mean the attack. I agree that it was not the best choice to name two things the same way, but the conventions are set now and forward is still the notational direction of choice. You don’t really see a lot of people writing T+HP - it’s always F+HP. Also, it’s veryveryvery rare to see anyone write QCT or HCT - it’s always QCF or HCF. I think as long as people are clear in writing the stuff, it won’t be difficult to read it. But i might include “toward” variations of everything as sidenotes in a later update. Thx for the feedback.

Notebook OTG videos and (unpolished) explanation posted. I may revise it slightly later on in the week to sharpen up the grammar/spelling/readability. I admit the writeup is a little rushed this time.

Added a few random clips exploring fireball juggle potentials. You can find them under “unsorted experiments” at the bottom of the Notebook page. Just look by dates for the most recent.

cool maj, esp the last one. why does the messatsu gou hadou connect?
