I’m about to switch the stick and I wonder if I can connect the black wire of the sanwa wires to only one of the black wires going from the PCB. or do I have to connect them all to that one sanwa wire?
probably a stupid question, but I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ll post pics later!
even though it’s been only the second time I held a soldering iron in my hands(first time was when I bought it and desoldered the buttons) everything went fine and everything works. unfortunately I couldn’t take off the plate from the JLF, because the screws were glued at the end. but I sandpapered the back a bit and it works fine.
here is the result:
Digging the green balltop, fits the xbox look perfectly. If you used the mounting plate you might need to check if the stick is the proper 24mm (I think?) from base to bottom of the balltop. If not it may be worth it to hobby knife the glue away.
Hey guys. I’ve had a V3 for a few months now, and my R1 button recently started malfunctioning, so I decided to learn how to mod it. I already have six 30mm sanwa buttons, a soldering iron, and desoldering tool. If I’m not mistaken, the steps are: desolder the pcb attached to the stock buttons, switch the buttons, and wire it up with “quick disconnects”. The desoldering part seems simple enough, but I have no idea what I need for wiring and how to do it. What kind of wires and “QDs” do I need? Can you pick them up from RadioShack? And is there a wiring tutorial somewhere on SRK? The kind person who made the video tutorials has everything but the wiring… Thanks for reading!
Thanks. Which tutorial gives information on wiring? I couldn’t find it in the beginner tutorial and the fighting stick 3 tutorial just says “wire the way you like.”
What are you looking for exactly when you say “information on wiring”?
There are wiring/PCB diagrams earlier onto this thread, I believe; and besides, the PCB itself is pretty clearly labeled.
it’s not 24mm from base to balltop. it’s like 5mm less. before I put the stick in I tried to get the glue off, but nothing worked.
but it’s no issue for me. stick plays great and I didn’t even notice the difference before you told me about it. if there was more space missing, I would have to do something about it, but the way it is is fine.
if you want tutorials on how to solder wires, there are plenty on youtube(that’s how I learnt it).
The question is super vague. What do you mean by broken? Is the actual button broken like the plastic housing or is it not responding?
My T5 O button was not responsive because of the hori switches failed. Most likely that’s the case if it’s malfunctioning.
Ah sorry! I’ve been using the stick for a couple months now, maybe half a year. Just last week, the r1 button (which is the heavy attack in marvel) began to stop registering my presses, slowly more and more. FYI, it’s the button I mash for supers. Now it’s unplayable , as it doesn’t register >50% of the time.
look how it’s done and then try it yourself just with some wire before you touch the stick. any experience is better than no experience(and for me it took my nervousness away, because I wasn’t afraid to screw up my stick anymore). if you have more questions, like steps how we did it or anything, just ask.
I didnt know if this was a good place to ask, but my friend is wanting me to dual mod his vx with a chimp SMD and doesn’t want to change buttons. Does anyone know if i can use the through holes on the daughter board to run wires to the chimp, or at least keep the daughter board in place for ease of setting up the buttons? Or does it need to be removed?
I havent dont the mod personally, but there’s no reason I can think of that it’s be that hardcore of a mod. Find the picture in this thread with the signals listed, solder wires to the underside of the main board and connect the other end of the wire to the matching screw terminal on the Chimp. Take USB wire, cut between the PCB and where it exits the case, and connect both ends of the cut to the D+/D-/VCC/GND spots on either side of the Chimp
Thanks a bunch. I’ve got my 6 buttons, desoldering iron, desoldering braid, and solder. Which QDs do I need? There was a variety of them at the store and I couldn’t figure which one I needed.
EDIT: I ended up getting twelve .187 female quick disconnects, with .187 hookup wires. Hope I’m right! I’ll return if I’m having more trouble… I’ve been reading slagcoin but I think I’m just dumb at this stuff.
