That’s right peeps, come a long way in short order, first tournament!! As we discussed after another kick ass turn out (where the hell did all of those MK players come from? Awesome!) we discussed some duties that need to happen somewhat quickly due to our fast approving tournament date.
Kraig: Using his Modok-like levels of understanding will produce the spread sheet for brackets (Tom feedback is appreciated here;)).
Tim: Artist extraodinaire will hold it down once again and produce angelic mind blowing posters that will melt faces like Doom Photon Arrays.
Sensual Chocolate: I’ll be creating the google group and sending out the email blast about the tournament and successive PWA fight nights. Within it there will be information regarding the facebook page for Salt Mines, and hopefully Sarah will agree to have the link posted under the PWA “Events” tab on the arcade website. I’ll also post up in the neighboring east forums and let them know about the tournament.
Speaking of facebook, the page will be updated more once we have more volume flowing to the page. Most usually retreats to SRK anyway for updates and happenings.
The rest of us will assist where need be and most importantly are responsible for HYPING this thing up with a little over two weeks to go.
Souper Bowl is the 12th so we can support, and also spread the word (Tom I’m sure will also do the same) about PWA Super Battle Galactica Extreme Tournament #1…Tim will have a better name in mind or else that’s what we are going with!
So last night we had tentative start times decided upon as follows:
Doors Open: 11am
Sign Ups: Noon
Tournament Start: 1pm
Games: SSF4: AE, MK9, MvC3, BBCS2
SSF4:AE- Singles $10
MK9-Singles $5
MvC3 3v3 Teams-$5 per player
BBCS2-Singles $5
If we are going to have a side tournament for Guilty Gear as Vyers noted last night, it should probably take place prior to the actual tournament start around noon, to avoid confusion. Suffice it to say it’s going to be an ambitious undertaking for a first tournament with 4 headliners when most do 2 lol! Anyway we will have to stagger the game schedule and be more specific to avoid all players showing up at once when they only want to play in one tournament game. Lessen the volume of people and smelly armpits!
SSF4 and BB should start it off since AE especially will take a while to finish so the earlier the better. Followed up by the high dmg games of MK9 and MvC3 kicking off mid afternoon/later evening. Need times from the more inclined in this area.
Payout we are running classic Top 3 for each game (eventually culminating in a mini trial of the UFGT7 payout structure for a future tournament).

No, you didn’t introduce yourself! I didn’t know that was Josh’s team or that tron’s hyper would still kill me (twice). Nice to meet you though, I’m the asian who thought he could beat a girl in a game he thinks he should beat girls in.
You can be on my team, but the only two things I’ll do is forfeit my turns over to you (unless you’ve already lost) and collect the winnings (unless you’ve already lost). Laurence can be on the team too. But based on his MVC3 performance last night, he will only be capable of the same two things I am capable of.
About the tournament brackets!
I recommend you guys just use Tonamento, Tournament Maker 2.1 or Challonge. They’re all free. Tonamento and Challonge are online applications and Tournament Maker 2.1 is a solid offline bracket maker. All these would be easier than excel I think!
Welcome to the fold Ashley =) and yes I was kidding lol. I’ve been inspired to add Tron to my mix as well so a lot was learned haha. In case you weren’t aware even though we are bi-weekly for the “Arcade edition” of Tuesday night fights, we hold “Salt Mines” in the off weeks at my place in Salem, NH. If you have the time on Tuesdays free regularly, feel free to stop by. Contact info and address can be provided if you so choose.
Don’t worry about the teams, we have a couple more Fight Nights before then to get you acquainted with everyone and can work something out I am sure between now and then. Perhaps we can get a couple more NH players and form two NH teams! Regardless this isn’t a proving ground so don’t feel like you have to prove anything;).

It would be sadder if I was playing good characters with ample training time and produced similar results:eek:. Come to think of it last time Marvel was played extensively was 'Marvel Room" after which we each promptly dropped it hotter than diarrhea on a steamy afternoon. Can still beat Kraig though, no spencer no win:razzy:… Planning an AE MvC3 crack session to productively train for the tournament. Probably not of the overnight variety but starting real early and we can make or grab breakfast if I choose to have it at my spot.:tup:

no way in hell was i gonna attempt to make an excel spreadsheet for brackets. the formulas required for automation like that would require way too much time and structuring, and not to mention ms access or something more useful instead. I was going to do one just for venue and tournament fees if the bracket program didn’t take care of it.
and yes, spencer is the heart and soul of my team but it wasn’t like thor wasn’t kara-super grabbing your ass or dropping the hammer… it was nice to meet and play against you hawkeye. she hulk got some long legs. laurence, stop changing teams. get it together.
i’m currently excited for AE. i’m gonna spend some time figuring out what gief can anti air with lariat and when to hit those three buttons during the opponents descent, so i am heeding your advice tom cause i agree with you. also, AE version of hawk has some interesting tweaks to help him out a good amount as well so i’ll probably be running with the two of them to start.

You got ONE kara-super which was hype! Sorry dude can’t follow the legions of lazy Weskers, Magnetos, Wolverines, Sentinels, akumas, Dantes, Taskmasters or that dumb dog to fill my team (no offense of course to those that enjoy the aforementioned characters). Literally no interest, and not some need to be different. If you have seen one player of these characters then you know what to expect from the next save for execution. Just need to get more matches in and really get a comfort zone with the one’s I do enjoy and take it from there. Plus if you have been watching a lot of these streams most of these top players change teams all the time or have already gone through 3 or more renditions of the one they currently enjoy. So it will be fine.

that sounds good (printing up one for the remainder of the by weekly and then one for the weekly. Again I think we should be good to go with weekly tuesday’s into the summer (will run it by Sarah but I do not forsee an issue with that). Only issue I can see is if some family wants to have a party on a tuesday evening but we should know a week in advanced if that happens. Otherwise the room is available.

I’m looking to get into this scene and was wondering if i could get some details. Is this strictly tournaments or are their casuals on different days? What time are the bi-weeklies usually held? What console are the games being played on? Do we have a Facebook page or some kind of community page up and running?
