New Hampshire: The Sessions...Return of Salt Mines Starts 1/15/13

Just wanted to say thank you to all of you guys for doing such a great job welcoming some the new faces we had coming in last night. Everyone was really proactive and it was great to see!

Shout outs: To Rich for the Balrog tips, hopefully we can get some sessions in soon to work on those counter hit setups you spoke of (so green in my SSF4 knowledge). Another goes out to my newly sparked rivalry with Adam in MK9. TWO WEEKS ADAM! I’ll be back with new stuff, get ready. And the new projector setup is awesome:tup:. Lastly, to Luis for destroying me with your reptile and making sure I got to Souper Bowl for that Marvel Tourny a couple months back!

To follow up on the abrupt ending to the evening it does raise some concerns because it’s screams 5 Dragons all over again (we know how that ended:tdown:) and isn’t conducive to what we are trying to achieve, which is consistency. I am glad we didn’t have a full house at the end of the night because that would have certainly turned the newer faces off.

We certainly need to get a system in place so that we are aware at least within 24 hours so that we can make players aware of the changes via chosen media stream (email, facebook et al). Otherwise this won’t last long from an attendance standpoint. We are all learning on the fly though and am sure this won’t happen again going forward.

To combat this I’ll open up my apartment again so that players who want to continue their evening can do so until 1am. I am sure we won’t have a full house so I am not afraid of 15-20 people showing up. The other option would be to atleast extend our time somehow @ PWA until 11pm. Maybe have it contingent upon attendance so that there is a reward for attendance for the players. The time seems to fly by faster than expected.

One last thing regarding the GU vs PWA proposed battle that Adam brought up. Despite some thoughts of being at a disadvantage I think it would be a good to incorporate some of the arcade games into it as well. Maybe a mystery game tournament aside from the obvious games like MK9, SSF4, and Marvel. We would also need to decide how many people are playing and actually start getting focused on some sort of training. Perhaps if luckyD is reading these forums he can shed a little more light on what was discussed. All in all I am more than game to train and play.

Well said Lawtown, Come to SouperBowl tonight if you can all !

The only reason we killed out early was because there was a corporate event that needed to be setup (last minute for Wednesday) which was going to take some time to get the room configured and ready which is why we cut out at 9:30 PM half an hour early. Again this is not going to be a normal occurrence and PWA is going to try our best to honor the time slots we have set for the event 5:00 PM till 10:00 PM.

That being said there has to be flexibility in the arrangements and like with any business what brings in money is going to have first say to how the room operates. Famous awful saying that I hate (business is business nothing personal). Again this is not going to be a normal occurrence and PWA is going to try our best to honor the time slots we have set for the event 5:00 PM till 10:00 PM.

That being said I think we did see some increased traffic to the room and people were welcoming to new individuals checking out the setup.

I am going to be looking to get some white boards to advertise more (outside the arcade and outside the door of the room).

Along with this I have brought in a few more TV unit and the new projector unit (which had some positive result) which will have the VGA hookup next event night to give a little more clarity and sharpness to the image.

Also coming in for next event is hopefully a new 36 inch Sony flat screen XGA TV and an HD CRT unit for additional console hookup.

On a side note, Thanks to all who also invested back into the floor of the arcade. Anything we can do to invest back into the arcade for the free usage of what we are running now is a plus and keeps these events moving along.

As for the arcade I am working hard on a few upcoming things (new games and controller setup out on the floor).

O ya by the way, Lawrence I will be ready for you??..

Excellent muwhahahaha! Completely understand the situation, most of us who were apart of the 5 dragons venue weren’t shown nearly as much respect which is why it caught many by surprise. You had also mentioned stuff like this would happen if the room was booked times would have to be altered. We just didn’t know that was all. A quote for a quote, “There are no friends or family in business, just the dollar” at least thats what I’ve been told:lol:.

I think we should start holding mystery game tournaments using the arcade machines. Whether that occurs on the weekend or during the Fight Nights can be decided upon, but there has to be a more fluid way to incorporate the arcade into the fold and that may be it. It would be fun, and spontaneous as well as provide a canvas to display the variety PWA has to offer. Players would have to play games they otherwise would not (Pit Fighter!) and have fun doing it in the spirit of simply competing. The logistics like entry fee and prize can be worked out amongst PWA. Maybe have it for next Fight Night…

Gladly to help out… i will see you all next week again since i actually had fun.

Damn, looks like we will have more screens than we’ll know what to do with. Where are these things coming from? I hope you aren’t dropping coin on all these. We do want to help and will be super glad to do so. If you need help setting things up for the fight night and taking it down, the people that show up will more than gladly move tvs/stack chairs/configure tables. It’s mainly a DIY scene so just like how we are putting out flyers that benefit us and pwa, setup/take down is something that we can really help with to help both the community and venue.

I think the hard thing about going into the arcade to drop some tokens in some machines is not about actually spending money, but moreso about keeping tabs on our stuff. I bring a ps3, an hrap v3 arcade stick, and another arcade stick i personally modded to not only look awesome, but also to play on both xbox and ps3. As much as we’d all like to admit we trust everybody around us, we are all super protective of our gear. I’m more than happy to play the CS machine, champ edition, and Area 51 as I enjoy those games, but then I don’t know what is happening with my gear.

with the security concern I brought up earlier in this post, I have to ask: what’s involved with moving a machine to the room?

Also, I move for a tournament scheduled for the summer sometime not around East Coast Throwdown or EVO. Should coordinate with Super Bowl and GU, get a saturday or a sunday that isn’t scheduled as a corporate/birthday party function and charge that $5 venue fee per head–waived if you bring a setup that will be used. Maybe at this tournament the next machine to hit the PWA floor gets broken in as the mystery $1 tourney. We run AE, CSII, MvC3, Mk9 or HnK or AH3 and an arcade machine or some combination of that. Someone second the motion. I’m not sure how many games would actually be prudent to run BUT given the sheer number of TVs we’ll have we could go through things pretty quickly.

good to hear you had a good time. you better be putting those flyers up somewhere that isn’t your bedroom!

I second the motion of tournaments especially with the arcade machines since it would benefit PWA positively and be able to expose the inventory to a wider audience. There is a plethora of games and some haven’t even hit the floor yet. It would be a shame to have it go to waste with a bevy of players present. I also agree with the notion of security since quite a few faces are coming in every week and the hobby we enjoy isn’t cheap.

The concern for me is finding an acceptable pace for both PWA and the players. It can typically take upwards of a year or more with heavy promoting, consistency in time/location, to solidify a solid group of players (i.e scene). Taking a look at successful scenes like GU and Souper Bowl, I’m certain they didn’t grow in one evening or even a few months to the levels they currently enjoy on a regular basis. We are fortunate to have an arcade as our venue which can’t be understated: It’s fucking awesome!! Not to mention the setup we enjoy thanks to PWA is superior to anything else out there…we just need the players and interest, that’s where the focus should be in my opinion. It’s just a matter of if the players will be given the time to grow the scene to these levels.

To expedite the process I suggest that we reach out more to established venues like GU and Souper Bowl initially and collaborate with monthly, bi-monthly, events culminating in an Annual (think EVO) type of major. The Danisen league is a great idea to start things off and should be considered heavily as the trial for future events. It can be something like a Wednesday Night Fights, Mixup Mondays, etc etc. We need to get the point people from each group together at PWA or wherever and hash this out over a beer or whatever. There is no reason why people at Souper Bowl should only go to souper bowl, same with GU and definitely us at PWA. If that means we gotta make a concerted effort to get to GU and Souper Bowl consistently, so be it (schedule providing). Perhaps a PWA vs GU vs SB to kick off a collaborative season of events.

The end result will be business for PWA validating Fight Night Tuesdays existence, more players, more competition and actual growth to our individual games so we can stop tossing the word “free” around. Maybe we can even have a “unified” community instead of GU people, PWA people, and SB people. Segregation died a while ago if I’m not mistaken:wtf:. If we get the consistent draw ALL parties involved will be pleased and feel their investments monetary or otherwise is more than worthwhile. Agree or disagree?

hey adam, you know you want to get this for us.
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 Pre-Orders
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 Upgrade Kit - Fighting Games - Arcade Game Boards & Kits

this is really all i want (besides the cs2 machine…). One of my hopes is that the NE Danisen League makes people think beyond arbitrary geographic boundaries like county lines and city limits and we can all work together to help each other.

oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god. I don’t think PWA has a taito x2 board though and I don’t know how much they cost. I think if that thing showed up though… oh maaan. we would probably just make it a requirement for tournaments to happen on it and limit cs2 play (at fight nights) on a console to 1 machine, depending on the number of people that showed up.

I guess it would make sense since it’s a 1/3 of the price for the AE cabinet.

God MvC3 is evolving into crap…Now wolverine is the being pushed as best character? Lmao. Capcom needs to hurry up with the obvious “Super” update and include some love to these characters:

-Ironman, hsien-ko, captain america, viewtiful joe, felicia, X-23, Morrigan, shuma, Thor (for the love of god, no pun intended).

-No reason for Wesker to have as much health as Hulk, Tron, Thor…provide the Sentinel nerf to him and give sent back the health.

-Magneto and storm probably shouldn’t be as frail as they are since triangle jumping isnt as hard to defend in this game as MvC2.

-Dark Phoenix should not get Xfactor of any kind or should continue to lose life even if she can pop it. That way phoenix has to kill quick or come to you via healing shield use creating a more balanced match up.

-XFactor needs to be level one all the time regardless of how many characters are left. Or significantly reduce the dmg increase and regeneration per lvl for less insanity.

We going to Tim’s Tuesday for new cab presentation or what? I want to play Platinum for my BDay!

Cab won’t be done by Tuesday and I have to wait until the end of the month fit my pcbs Tuesday I’ll still be sanding and bondoing

Scratch that we now have 2 Sony 37 Inch XBA Flat Screen TV’s with Component input. with a 3rd one on the way

laurence, i agree with you, but some of those characters on your list are already really good. once the better characters are tweaked I think we’ll see more of them. i almost put marvel into my xbox the other day… nope

so what are the plans for tues?

like rich said, lots of those characters are really good. and i see no need for magneto and storm to get health buffs. tri jumping may be weaker in this game but that doesn’t mean that magneto doesn’t have potentially the best throw/air throw in the game or the best level 3 in the game or that storm doesn’t have the best mid range pokes in the game with one of the best launchers into anything she wants to do to you. both can dhc glitch as well so if you get hit you die. x-factor should be level 1 only, i think everybody wants that at this point.

i’m down to play tuesday. we should probably not go to Tim’s until he’s done with the sweet cab.

Respectfully disagree. Please point me in the direction of the players out there making waves with their teams built around two or more of these characters on their team. I admittedly am not smart enough to make it happen with these characters. To add to that I can only make an intimate case for Hsien-ko and Cap America whom ive played extensively in other games including this one. Ironman and Morrigan certainly have potential and are underused, but the others seem to have some serious flaws and don’t measure up to the level of the rest. Any team I make usually consists of at least two of the aforementioned characters so some experience is there at least from a casual level. They aren’t exactly scary and rather than laying down to another combination of Mags, wesker, akuma, wolverine, taskmaster like most, is it bad to want some of the more original cast to have a variety of options without demotion to strictly assist status?:razzy:

If you believe that the DHC trick will remain you are more optimistic than me. They are glitch fixing crazy it seems these days. It also puts any team not capable of doing said DHC trick at a disadvantage from the select screen…awesome:tup: Couldn’t imagine they would keep something that limits character choice and teams in the game, could be wrong, who knows.

Damn Kraig get out of the books kid, Storm’s launcher is quite good, but i’m not sure to level you want to take it…block and punish remember. Plus its only active once the tornado starts and there is a nice delay before that even begins. Seems like you may have fallen prey to it one too many times lol. You may have meant to say Sentinel?:razzy:. I’ll throw my hat in with taskmaster (that sword), Dante (that sword), sentinel (hyper armor everything), Hulk (smash) before I get to storm from my own experience.

Don’t know whats crackin for Tuesday right now.

I’ll give you Sent’s E, that’s my bad. but the horizontal and vertical range on storm’s E is still super deceiving and effective. I actually think iron man, felicia, morrigan, x-23, and even viewtiful joe are all fine. i think they are characters with robust, individuated movesets that are true to their lineages. i think what it comes down to is some fundamental differences you have with the mvc3 design team. mvc3 is clearly more about fan service than actually being balanced. i don’t think it’s a bad idea to have characters that don’t need to be strictly assists but there’s no way the team making the game looked at haggar and wesker and said… yeah haggar has a chance in that matchup–he’s good to go (or something like tron versus magneto). i think extremely few characters in a game like mvc3 end up being able to tackle all situations, and if they do i think it happened by accident. It is a team game, and under that given, we may assume that some characters were just not intended to be go-to team killers. And we know that marvel and capcom didn’t want characters to have options that they didn’t really have in their proper storylines.

maybe they wanted players to look at all three of their characters as one character. Look at that derrick legend guy who made top 8 at power up . that team is being treated as one character in my eyes and while we may be able to say he’s exploiting something super cheap, it hasn’t been banned so it isn’t like we can REALLY hold it against him.

personally, i think i’m much more willing to accept character changes and just play in the world the developers created than you are (me thinking hsien-ko has potentially fantastic keepaway and you hating how they changed her from her previous playstyle). each game, to me, is a unique world that you have to accept as you approach or else you’ll never be able to enjoy it.

i agree with thor though. it’s like he’s swimming underwater while trying to play.

also, i watched that jwong v noel brown match… it is pretty weird. it was literally like justin was handicapping himself.

Is that odious (learned that word from Power Rangers the movie, crazy right?!) stench a hint of superiority:razzy:…Not all change is good, but I am happy you can take such an enlightened approach to it though. Agree to disagree on Storm, sounds like a personal problem and I’m allergic to blocking yet haven’t had an issue in my minor experience. Using a phoenix team as an example of “oneness” and team… lol. No doubt hsien-ko is my favorite character of all time so seeing the character decimated doesn’t make me happy.

I would challenge you though to dig deep and find a character you have loved over the years that has gone through an equally dramatic change before talking about “acceptance”. Aside from that having not spent any significant time with a VS game in general allows you walk in free of expectation “to accept character changes and just play in the world the developers created.” Nope it’s not personal you just left out some other key ingredients to the mix.:nono:

lol, i never said i was predisposed to getting blown up by storm’s launcher. i think it just has really good range, as do all her pokes. and no, i’m not dropping any holier-than-thou sentiments, you know i’m not like that.

I just never get a chance to use the word Odious lmao.
