New Hampshire: The Sessions...Return of Salt Mines Starts 1/15/13

i totally forgot the power strip i was planning on bringing and I’m picking somebody up at the bus station in salem and won’t have time to go get any. I would highly suggest people bring some strips.

Ill grab one, but wont be there till after 7

I should be here at around 6 and unfortunately leaving at 8 to get my wife!

I’ll bring a stick or two.

It’ll be good to see you again, tom. So you bringing her back with you so she can beat sailor moon again while you learn BB?

lol, I don’t have the $$ to put her through another Sailor Moon campaign. But my time there will be spent getting beat up in whatever games you guys have!

i have power strips, i’m bringing a whole slew of crap

Tim
don’t worry about the power strips I have about 7 which will be on-site

Ok so here is the question???

What system would you like to see in the arcade?

i like xbox, it runs the best no matter what kind of tv it’s on, unlike the ps3.

System in the arcade, in what sense ?!

I mean arcade…

So thoughts on the PWA Tuesday Fight night?

Any intrest in additional HD projectors ?

i thought the projector was a neat idea, my only concern would be as we start to grow we wouldn’t have the space to run them

So, thoughts about Tuesday night:
I thought Tuesday night was pretty sweet. I believe we had about 18 people in the room, and I think at least 8 or 9 of them had never been there before. A couple individuals, Vyers, for instance, thought that the arcade’s selection was really good so they may have been pumping some tokens into machines as well.

The projector setup was great though the brightness was too low for a couple of the mk stages. Some localized lighting around each setup would be optimal though cause it was a bit too dark sometimes (trying to configure controls on a stick can be tough when you can’t see which button is L2). I cannot deny, however, the exciting aspect of fifteen foot tall characters and it’s a tradeoff that i think is worth it, of course, when viewed from the floor you can’t really tell anything is going on in the room. The diversity of games being played was also really good. BB, GG, MK, TvC, MvC3, and SSF4 all got play time and there was plenty of room as well. The size of the room actually made it look like LESS people were there because we were all spread out (and people were going out to the floor i think too). Next time we’ll also have Arcana Heart 3, HnK, and I think some brawl players.

as far as space is concerned, i think we could get two hd projector setups for the front of the room for the big games, tourneys, etc (like the Main Stage kind of thing) and still have like 5 more setups with different games and people trading off every 2 out of 3 and such.

as far as the players are concerned, I know I helped a couple people with some blazeblue stuff, Vyers was teaching laser cakes some guilty gear, and everybody seemed to be sharing a lot about MK as well. So it seemed that the general vibe of everyone helping everybody else was doing well.

It went very well I would say. Agree with what Tim and Kraig said regarding space and the variety of games etc. One concern that I had throughout the night was how dark the room was and the impression of a private event it might have given people who stumbled upon it (complete opposite of what we want happening).

Plus if you weren’t playing any of the machines near the doorway it was hard to tell if anything was going on at all. To combat that in the future it may be a good idea to maybe have a sign posted out front to let people know the event is currently ongoing as they walk in on Tuesdays. Im thinking a simple dry erase board message would suffice to get the walk in traffic. There were a couple people that walked in and I figured they were already apart of the event but then they walked out which was unfortunate.

I saw a lot of movement between the marvel/ssf4 and mortal kombat stations but but not much else otherwise which is fine. We would should just strive to get more players for each game. That way it doesn’t feel like your spending 5 hours fighting the same person because no one is moving from their comfort zone. Aside from that the only remaining concern would be how do we know people will return and how do we get them to come back with more people?

Guys
Great feedback, keep it coming
So what I am gathering is the following
1.) Projectors configuration was great.
a. I talked with Sarah about this and we are thinking on adding an additional projector unit. I am going to be constructing 2 mobile all in one podium station (like BBCS on the arcade floor)- (so we do not have to utilize the long folding tables for projecting, awkward and takes up to much space). The internal of the unit will be able to support (Wii, 360 PS3 or older console with the project centered for projecting from the unit. The upper portion will be built to host your custom stick with proper feed holes to connect to the console).
This should make hosting 2 projectors a lot less cluttered and give more room for the rest of the area.

2.) Lighting is something I am already thinking of. I am looking to put in 1 or 2 free standing lamps with a very low wattage bulb just to give enough lumens in the room but not so bright to wash out projectors.

3.) Dry erase board is an awesome idea. We can work on that and look at getting two (one outside the room and one up near the entrance)

4.) Signup ? I leave this in the community hands for someone to take charge of getting together a signup form for the community (name ,email address etc.) also for incentive if they sign up we can do a monthly drawing for some prizes (action figures, gift cards etc.). We can setup a table either at the entrance of PWA or at the door of the room. Plus we can use it in a mailer or distribution for the community.

5.) TV?s I think I have 2 more 36 in TV?s coming my way (Sony and Mitsubishi) and 2 27 in units.

6.) Use this forum to state what systems we are bringing so we know we have enough especially since the TVS are flowing in ?
I can supply the two Wii units each time and with Tim?s donation (thanks Tim) we now have 4 Arcade Joysticks for those systems and John one of our employees can supply an XBOX 360 and 2 original XBOX units.

a. Aside from that it looks like we had 2 PS3, and one PS2.

7.) Keep spreading the word (We did have a great turnout on Tuesday). I can print up more flyers if you need them, we should get a community face book page setup as well. I am working with Sarah to get information on the main PWA site.

8.) In the next several months I would like to start to coordinate some tournaments

Sounds awesome. Created a facebook page for Salt Mines a couple weeks back, but because facebook wouldn’t let me change the name to PWA Fight Nights it’s stuck as New Hampshire Salt Mines. I don’t have an issue taking it down and creating a dedicated facebook page, unless you already have ideas you want to run with Adam.

I can bring a 360, PS3, and PS2 if needed and the times that Tom comes pretty sure he wouldn’t mind bringing his systems as well. All in all we should be pretty stacked when it comes to consoles. Sticks may have to be player dependent, but I have plenty of 360 and PS2 controllers to go around as well.

As for Sign up were we going to go with a simple note pad or did someone have an actual sign up sheet already designed. Note pad is fine with me. One another note, would PWA be responsible for any email blasts including sign up incentives, tournaments (arcade/console), prizes, date changes or would that be something left to the community to organize?

Thanks again for all you and the PWA fam are doing to make things happen Adam.

I can deal with the attendance stuff. I try to make sure I talk to everybody that shows up anyway. I’ll make an excel sheet to track it all after the fact and I’ll share it in google docs so others can view it. I’ll just make a standard attendance sheet for typical stuff that we can just write on for the next time.

we should have flyers available, at a minimum, for attendees of the next night to take with them and put up in their areas/communities. division of labor is a glorious and efficient thing.

also, daaaaaaaamn, that’s a lot of TVs, Adam. You must be robbing senior centers or something for all those.

so i will make a new flyer then? running the same format just some different artwork and dates? anyone opposed or have any other ideas shoot them my way.

I have my connections. Now i just need a shovel to bury the bodies, any on have one to spare…
