put the deposit down for my cabinet today.
No one is ever happy ever with fighting games huh (myself included)
Anyhow MK IS A BLAST, i was super impressed, and i see a ton of potential for funfactor as well as playing it as a compettive game (tourny based) so get hype
Any serious fighting game that’s been made the last few years…yes. Never experienced this kind of discontent before lol. The substance just seems to be lost in a lot of them these days. The MK demo looks like a lot of fun, and it would be hilarious if MK9 turned out to be THE sleeper game everyone jumps on and is satisfied with in the end. Hopefully some old school MK heads will jump on it soon to give their take on the competitive nature of the game as well.
I take it you guys have finally gotten over the MVC3 hype? Not a good tournament game…
And regarding the MK tournaments, there will be hardcore players no matter what. A bunch of people still play MKDA - Armageddon/MKvsDC seriously. Those games are really bad…
btw the better you get at sf, the more you realize how much better it is compared to every other fighter out there. that goes for the entire franchise. so… play sf?
ps i want cvs3
The fact that people played Armageddon and vs DC seriously worries me lol. To each their own I suppose. MvC3 is a lot of fun, but playing it competitively is counter productive, far more random than SF4.
SSF4 isn’t for me maybe AE changes things, but I never played at a high enough level to notice or take advantage of the distinctive changes made to the characters anyway. Oh well plenty of other solid entries coming out this year to try so hopefully something clicks.
fixed that for you, rich. also, when Tim and I were helping to get the CS machine up and running at PWA I spied a Killer Instinct machine in a corner…
as for me, i still like me some mvc3 stuffs. I still haven’t watched the shuma reveal but i just have this feeling that I will want to play him cause I gravitate toward the effed up characters. i’ll still play sf from time to time, but i like older versions so much better than super and 4. nobody really appeals to me in that game except a severely handicapped 8 foot mexican. At this point i would just need to pick a new character and transfer all the skills i picked up with him to somebody where it would actually be helpful.
I’m going to PAX East tomorrow for all three days so I’m hoping there’s a ton of stuff there for me to check out. If anybody wants me to be on the lookout for anything or something, text me and I’ll see what I can do for you. Furthermore, I believe I can offer up my place for some saltmines action this coming tuesday if anybody is interested.
find me some bb swag
shoutouts to kraig winning the second bb tourny at pax
this is pretty random
maybe im being too serious but does anyone want to get better around here? i just deleted a novel complaining about the nh scene…so i’ll get to the point. it’s pretty dumb but i feel as though i should at least tell you guys what’s on my mind regardless of your situations/opinions. and i’d also like to say that this will probably come off as pretty selfish… i’ve been really wishy-washy when it comes to this stuff anyway. i know we’re all supposed to have fun, but aren’t any of you trying to improve? i’ve taken a few long breaks only to come back to the ego inflated brian (you’re free – and always drunk) and mvc3 (cool). marvel has potential… yeah it’s pretty random right now, but that’s because everyone around here sucks at it. i’d still like to give it a shot. that goes for other games as well. i know we don’t always share the same interests (fck bb) but it’s not like it’s hopeless. you can get better blahblah. and yes i know where some of you stand on these stupid points so you don’t have to ask me any obvious questions
btw im getting hnk
fuck forums
Not sure if you were expecting someone to lash out at you given the various prefaces before your points, but I agree with you. Writing novels from my own personal experience certainly doesn’t work since they are seldom read (I read em though). The main issue is we band together for different reasons as you expressed.
Regardless we have are people feigning interest in games because it’s new or a great diversion until AE, CS2, MK, KOF13 etc come out. What I would suggest is simply going to the venues that promote what you want to truly play. That means Tim and Kraig invest their time in Dustloop forums and gathering more people to support their game, Brian already abandoned for greener SF4 pastures long ago and his improved game reflects that lately. After this Tuesday i’ll be in Framingham and Lowell Tuesdays and Wednesdays to “improve” my Marvel game.
It’s really the only piece of constructive advice there is since we have had various people come through these forums, my apartment, 5 Dragons, to disappear into the wind. We don’t play enough SF4, we suck, we’re a BB community…so many misconceptions and the only thing they all have in common is that the people saying them are whiny, immature, elitist, punk ass bitches. It’s how we share constructive criticism round these parts unfortunately. For instance during Marvel Room I had to listen to a person repeatedly tell me that he was “not impressed” by me comboing his ass to death and “oh yea keep mashing” and “this game is trash.” Wild guess anyone?
Not really what I was looking for when spending my dollars to help out a community in trying a new game and to see if it can catch on to play competitively. There is a genuine lack of respect especially when someone gets their ass kicked and seldom constructive criticism to help improve (that has gotten better recently though) but in the end the time is better spent elsewhere. Your a talented SF4 player Rich and should go to where you can get the most comp regularly and that’s not here. I think we all have our own distinct talents and need to start fostering them.
Shout outs to unintentional novels:tup:
Man oh man, well for what its worth i love all of you guy sindividually and as a group! Yes i know im a drinky crow, and yes i know that i can be ignorant and even offensive at times with no proper explinations for my emotions/opinions (something ive been trying to work on) I do agree that i would liek to continue to harvest abilities in any games that in emight choose. I think Lawrence you have avery proper idea/ ideal for how to do just that. So from what i understand Saltmines is scrapped? This saddens me greatly! Although i can understand how being grown up with life work can make holding quite difficult.
I wil be apt searching in the next couple of months with intentiosn to finally move out from home, this being the case I woudl gladly host future saltmines when all is said in done! Sorry im such a cunt and an asshole guys, not my intentions !
There wouldn’t be much of a “scene” (6 people?) here if it wasn’t for you, Laurence. It’s not like I’m the one willing to invite people over to my place to play SF/etc. The Marvel Room was a really kind gesture. I played more MVC3 there in those 2 days than I have anywhere else. That’s also where I got back into SF… This isn’t really a BIG deal (even though I’m typing a lot) I just wanted to make a few points. You will not get better unless you put the work in–and that’s why we’re here, right? And yeah, I agree that we should all go to venues that foster comp. play in our respective games… I wouldn’t be complaining if I could actually travel to said gatherings. I think I’ll try a little harder instead of posting on the forum… and brian, i’m glad you understand. we all have our problems but even then we should just keep it in the game.
yo… i go to PAX and this place blows up like Japan. PAX stuff first…
it was sweet. I have stuff for people should you be interested. I do have some BB/aksys swag for you Tim. Brian, I have millers and an iHome in my trunk from the marvel suite.
mk9. fun stuff. doesn’t seem like it could be broken from how movement is, speed of moves, types and ranges of moves. not like i was really busting out tons of combos in the 7 minutes i played it, but i did get a sweet aa/launcher to juggle to grab with (of all people) nightwolf. feels like a really rewarding game.
Skullgirls could have real potential. 6 button setup, character ratio system (1 strong character or 2 weaker characters), tag combos (i think-didn’t get to test this much), pushblocks, good throws/air throws, cancellable dashes and air dashes, magic series, and a frame buffer system of an unspecified length. it’s like capcom buttoms with mvc2 movement, with bb input system, and cvs2 character select. also, mike z was there. he had to kick me off a setup for press stuff. only two characters were playable at the time but they were quite different and i figured out some cool combos. skullgirls could be a real sleeper hit.
duke nukem forever… sigh. such good marketing and jokes, such terrible graphics, control, interaction with the environment.
portal 2 will be amazing.
brink was the standout fps.
played shuma and jill for a couple minutes. still haven’t watched the reveal videos for them but shuma seemed to play really well–i liked him a lot better than jill. movement is very fluid.
lucky d won ssf4 and the marvel top 8 was pretty crazy. don’t know who the guy that won marvel was, but he was doing some crazy stuff and the grand finals was hype. i got 2nd in the first bb tourney on saturday and 1st on the second one on sunday. got to play a dustloop mod after that and had some fun matches. sorta made me fully realize some things that i had been thinking about lately which actually relates to what you posted rich/laurence.
namely, i play too many games and often don’t have time to hit up training mode by myself in them to work on new things. i’m focusing on changing that. Also, I play the game I’m the best at/greatest potential in/like the most, the smallest amount.
I am still offering up my place for tomorrow night for a SaltMines or… whatever. I’ve got a nice 5.1 setup and I live in a house with my gf and she’ll be going up to maine to see family for a couple days. anybody interested at all?
I might try to make it out there after rich gets out of work if he wants to go otherwise I just want to go to the arcade and play bb I’m aldo down to go to gu as I have the next two days off
Sharing is caring man, I like to see stuff like this because it creates an opportunity to air out what everyone is probably thinking…much respect for your candor. I think what would be more beneficial going forward is for people to post up if they are headed to a gathering and to see if anyone is available to go. I never mind driving, but I have far more limited time to get out than most as well. This way we are hitting up the other venues and taking advantage of the stuff that is already out there.
Kraig in regards to your thoughts it’s pretty clear you and Tim are talented BB players and if traveled could make some dough at these tournaments. I don’t play the game well, but watching all these damn streams and seeing these people drop combos and choke in situations I am sure you both do in your sleep and excel in respectively pisses me off because flat out that shits free money. Not saying to disregard all the great games yet to come out but most top players or wanna-be’s devote their practice time to that number one game only as you know. Just my two cents but we have fuckin good players around here and it would nice if people knew that except us.
As for SaltMines we can rotate it around but I think we have to decide what we want Mines to be. Chill session? Book Club? Try out new games outside fighting genre? There is a lot, but I think we all realize that leveling up isn’t going to happen amongst the small group we have. We also still have a stream to try, but what are we using it for and why?
Definite Big Props to** Kraig Tager Busting his way to a PAX tournament win!!** Furthering my point about concentrating on that number one game. Good shit!
lol at book club. though I was actually in a book club once so maybe i shouldn’t laugh. thanks for the love… the only worthwhile thing may have been that i had to adapt like crazy to mash-zillas cause the tourney was single MATCH, single elimination. Met a couple people who play in the area but i don’t think they actually had any transportation and I may have a voucher good for a free copy of arcana heart 3 when it comes out (though I won’t know until Xie emails me what I actually won). Also, I have a free download of Double Dragon on the iPhone from getting second if you want it, Tim. I can’t use it. should any of you care (and witness me whiffing multiple combos due to a hugely lagly dynex tv), the vids are available here.
to answer your question, rich: yes, i want to get better. Looking back at how I played when this all stated (5 Dragons w00t), I know that i’ve gotten a lot better in fighting games in general. I’m rarely out to prove things, though, so for me it all boils down to the social aspect while still progressing in some way. For BB, I need to put the time in and work with tim to find people who play the rest of the cast for matchup exp. For marvel, i have to learn the shenanigans of the other characters and make a coherent team. (yo shuma! seriously, get bit). For sf, hawk needs to wait for AE so I should learn another character for real. for all of them, i need to execute better.
also, congrats to brian for being an adult. I really thought you were gonna go off your rocker.
sure, i could get down with some iphone double dragon.
also i’m free all day tuesday and wednesday if anyone wants to go to the arcade, if not i’ll continue to beat my own high scores on the bb machine.
what’s the price per play right now?
i don’t know, i haven’t been since thursday, and then it was one token.
Im in pelham tonight, i would love to maybe get together an dplay a fe wgames or meet up at the Wizard let me know, im usally home from the gym and ready to go by liek 730
