sticking with c-ryougi for now, will probably start working on h-ryougi soon as well.
lawrence, if you havent ordered your stick yet, i suggest you get some wiring and .110 quick disconnects, it will make it easier for me to mod and if you want to change the artwork later on.
i’ve got two sticks so i’ll bring those tomorrow, and my tv so we can have a melty set up and a ps3 set up.
Just fair warning, I am not sure how many people are showing up tonight, the attendance has been REAL spotty as of late so it may be 3 people lol. My PS2 also bit the dust (tried to mod) so I am getting a slim to try a new trick I learned (thank you Youtube!). As a result I think it would be wise to bring a PS2 in case I can’t get it to work in time. I will update before this evening so stay tuned. Yay sticks! This is easily the most brutal game on the hands with pad. Tim if you have that composite cable for PS2 at your store can you please pick it up for me, I will have the money in hand for you…the one’s I ordered were for PS3, sigh.
you can use ps3 cables on ps2.
oh burn!
and yeah, this is the first tuesday I can’t make until july 27th… but just hold it together people and i’ll be back. I also think that since the NBA finals are over you’ll find people resurfacing. Trying to get my reading going for melty so i can at least be knowledgeable about the game when I do get to play. Other than that, my friend andrew has CS running so I’m gonna try and meet up with him soon and get some of that going. If i’m gonna be behind in one thing I might as well try to get ahead in something else!
kraig, i will destroy you cheater!!! O_O
Not sure the game is changing too much to make a huge difference, but I agree. Be ready for Melty kraig for not having spent too much time with it there are some real good matches going on (not ready for team spooky by any stretch yet). Speaking of giants does anyone want to money match my Gigantor X from Sengoku Basara X last night?!! 25 cents!! have to buy that shit today lol, oh and some fist of the north star (infinite dragon punch sha nay nay’s???!). Good times and thanks for finally resurfacing Alex wtf!
Last quick note I will be going to MA events throughout the week starting next week since the attendance for our events seems to be a bit off, maybe we can even collaborate on Thursday nights (thanks Alex) with Souper bowl or something and mesh the two scenes. Ideas are welcome, but if not for Melty Salt Mines would already have closed its doors. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks Tim for bringing all that stuff last night, greatly appreciated!
i’m pretty much open for whatever, as long as i get to leave the house and play games a couple times a week.
there are pictures of a new dlc character for CS up, her name is mokoto shes the fox girl from CT, supposed to play similar to slayer.
Yo, i’m gonna make him bring it to 5 dragons, mang! Also, laurence, things did change a bunch. and now, like tim said, at least one new dlc character coming. so pumped I might explode. Also, do want HnK matches and to see this whole gigantor X thing. talk all the hype to the MA crew (i have a suspicion you may find brian down there–anybody know where he is?) and get them excited for games other than ssf4 or something. i wanna see CS tourneys at the souper bowl and shit like that. we gotta keep the saltmines alive somewhere, man. It doesn’t have to reside at your condo on tuesdays.
I am not sure what Arksys was thinking when they made such a small roster, especially a successor to such a game that had a large roster like guilty, ah well. DLC is exciting but the character should have been in the game to begin with, just my thought…and it better be free or that game is definitely off my list. Gigantor X is hype, ordered my copy of Sengoku today and looking into some fist of the northstar (now thats a broken game lol). Not sure where Brian is but can’t be concerned with that either since he is well aware of where we are as well as the nights the events happen.
My thinking is that he obviously didn’t feel like he was getting better playing with us (even though he was far from dominating any of us) and went somewhere else. No harm, no foul. But there is life beyond SSF4 and with all of these great fighting games I refuse to only have that on my competitive radar. Some people just want to play SF and im totally cool with that, it’s just not my thing. As for Salt Mines I wouldn’t mind rotating weeks with someone if they have the space and time.
Posted on Melty Bread and I was informed that there are Melty players in NH that travel weekly to Vernon, CT for comp. I wouldn’t mind trying to go once or twice a month if we can get a carpool going. I will be getting more details by the weekend so i’ll keep people posted. What’s the word on a CS scene, I am sure there are rumblings somewhere so let’s find it.
we should have salt mines when there is no 5 dragons
my understanding is that guilty’s roster grew by like two characters with each iteration. So that would be like saying Sf1 had such a large roster just because ssf4 has like 35 characters. I’m not exactly up on it though. Aksys has stated that the new dlc characters are not on the disc and we will not be purchasing mere unlock codes like all the sf4 alt costumes (yes, the word purchasing is mentioned). Basically what’s gonna happen is everybody will download the update when the character is released so that you may play against a new character but you’ll have to pay to play as the new character–paying also gets you that character’s unlimited version, tutorial and challenges–no word yet on a story mode though. I’m interested to see the cost and how many characters will be DLC (I’m thinking at least 2 will be downloadable in the US before Christmas). I’m actually fine with this route, as Tim said Aksys already has a balance patch planned as well–I mean, the game is only $40. Clearly they are committed to making the game a lasting experience.
Vernon is, it seems, where most of the dustloop people who post in the new england thread play–so it looks like there is some crossover, understandably, between those two camps. But they play every… what, friday and saturday night? I could be interested in visiting there on occasion, you know, maybe as much as i hit up the souper bowl. Also, get these NH melty peeps to the 5 Dragons for some games. I think there’s one guy in portsmouth who plays BB and MB.
As a BB fan I am not surprised you would be ok with them offering pay to play DLC characters that in my opinion should be included in the final product from the jump and not a cheesy means of bolstering your product…to each their own.
You are definitely correct on the roster size but as a casual fan looking to get into the game the bar has been raised in what’s expected out of a roster imo. I personally don’t look forward to seeing a million Tsubaki’s at whatever tournaments arise from the initial upswell of CS excitement…Look how many Ibuki wannabe’s there are lol. My point is there is something to be said for variety and with fighting game roster’s now (KOF’s been doing it for years) swelling to the 20+ realm initially, I say keep the game in development and add the damn characters.
One of the bigger complaints already for MVC3 is the roster size. It’s also a good reason why MVC2 lasted 10 years. It’s not like they don’t have them ready to go since DLC plans/production are mapped out long before the game even hits shelves. In SSF4 I got remixed themes, character colors, bonus stages, 10 new characters, revamped and new online modes, replay channel, rebalanced (nerfs? improvements?) characters, new challenges and all for…$40…come on Kraig.
Capcom will more than likely add to the roster again in time. Whether that DLC is free or not I will gladly purchase it because they pretty much went above what’s expected for a fighting game update. As unpopular as BB is currently why wouldn’t you want to go all out and create an irresistable package that people would want (thank you SNK)…sigh.
I am down for doing the Mines on the Dragons off weeks only. If someone wants to hold one on the weeks we do have Dragons just post up and we can get it done. It would be kind of an extra session I suppose. I am also usually free on wednesdays for Melty sessions if anyone is down to play for a few hours…definitely not Salt Mine hours lol.
mmmmm, the chance for intelligent discussion!
Let’s not forget that SSF4 is actually the game that should have been released in the first place. The online modes in sf4 were terrible, nobody actually likes the new replay channel because you can’t actually search in any meaningful way and all the matches are terrible, and the “new challenges” were basically all there in sf4, except for some of the absurd ones or those for the new characters–they also still didn’t fix the fact that people want to be able to see them done or anything like that. So, with that in mind, ssf4 only brought us new music, stages, rebalancing, and ten new characters, all good things. Would I pay $40 for that? Sure.
BB:CS is, in my mind, a bigger step forward. Coming from a brand new IP, it’s harder for the much much smaller Aksys to actually create new characters (gg inspirations aside). Capcom had the opportunity to bring characters from any of their games in, this meant they merely had to make the characters work in the new engine, and not create movesets for them. So basically, Capcom only gave us 2 new characters. BB gives us 3 new characters on the disc, much more substantial rebalancing (chars have new moves, new attributes, removed moves/attributes, etc), a brand new tutorial mode for every character, brand new challenges for every character, an involved story mode with multiple endings for every character, the new Legion mode, new stages, new music, redrawn stages, redrawn character models/smoother animations, and (apparently) an even more robust online experience. Obviously, both games share some Pros and both have things in the sequels that should have been in the original which would balance out but I think the $40 for CS is a bigger bang for the buck. i ain’t hatin, i’m just statin.
Also, your concern “hey, just be in development for longer and get more characters” is certainly valid and I can’t really rebut with anything strong. However, since you are a big KOF fan, i’m really surprised you aren’t on the “oh hey, new year, new game!” bandwagon.
Once July hits i’ll start to have more free time–which then EXPLODES in August. I’ll have TONS of time to play in august guys.
My issue wasn’t necessarily which game gave the most value until you proclaimed BB:CS was an incredible value at $40. I will certainly still buy it, but I can’t bring myself to say that it was more valuable than what I got with SSF4 (and SSF4 isn’t even my shit lol). I disagree with the notion that SSF4 is what we should have gotten in the first place only because its a new engine gameplaywise, and graphically. A far bigger leap from third strike (hand drawn) to SF4 (2.5D) than guilty gear to BB both anime inspired graphics. BB in its barest form is guilty gear with a drive button mechanic and sharper graphics, it’s not a transcendent leap which is why I expect a little more out of the initial package. As for the replay channel that has more to do with the quality of players online than anything Capcom has set in place; a great idea that is not present in any other fighting game on the market. I do however like the tutorials in BB and I think that alone would be its greatest contribution, and should be copied by everyone from SNK to Midway with KOF/MK. For someone who knows nothing about SRK, Dustloop etc., it’s a fantastic resource. I used it extensively when I initially bought the special edition.
My beef is more with DLC distribution and not BB. paying for a character that should be in a game with a limited roster to begin with is simply horseshit. You mentioned Capcoms backlog of characters and while its true, they each still need to be remade from the ground up in this graphical style, given new move properties (Makoto sucks, and Ibuki is half herself), and balanced appropriately to fit into the mold that was set in place by SF4…Did I mention they did this with ten characters!!! And Arksys can’t squeeze out 5 characters and balance them against a roster 1/3 the size without charging people for it!!! Please close your doors…It is for reasons like this Street Fighter remains the pinnacle by which all others are judged and aspire to be. They just work harder than everyone else, sigh. All love though Komrade, despite these thoughts i’ll still be grinding out a decent Tsubaki to make you and Tim sweat a little bit…notice I didn’t say win =p
Bring on the free time plenty of Melty grinding to do. Choose your moon wisely!
@Rich: Dude your crazy if you do not play H-Roa. He is beast man, fuck the Crescent orbs! You will dominate for sure with him…just embrace the half moon lol.
yeah, the orbs are sweet but I’d rather just shoot the fucking lightning.
just don’t forget that the 2.5D is computer modeled and not hand drawn. this allows you to do way more. SNK said they could only make all the sprites needed for like 6 hi def KoF characters year if their employees were just doing that. anyways, we can continue the convo when we drunk&salty for hilarity.
related to you and your tsubaki–don’t knock yourself. i know you got it in you. basically everybody has a chance in that game and i’d be more than happy to help you out with it. we already know you love air combos, IADs, double jumps, and quick movement.
also, there’s orbs and lightning? shit, I need to play some more of this game. i’ve been watching some vids, chars attacking with capes, big rings, red wavy lines, glowing stuff… is there like a pc version or something–or do I really have to pay like $70+swap magic to play it with my sweet silver pad and destroy my thumb on the dpad?
you can download an emulator mr kraig.
is your buddy bringing CS to 5 dragons on thursday?
laptop too slow to go the emulated route. oh well. i sent him a text about bringing it thursday. He did say he was down for playing it this wednesday so when I gchat with him on monday i’ll have more info about that. looking forward to 5 dragons this week. gotta get some melty time.
Might be a good idea to get in a couple of hours before Thursday so you can hit the ground running. At least you can have a grasp of the flow and which moon your most comfortable in and you can concentrate more on learning your combos, shielding techniques, and meter management etc. This week is especially empty for me since some of my bosses are on vaca which means less class time for me! Btw the Melty soundtrack is really good (that’s right, I give a shit about fighting game music)…Downloaded if anyone wants a copy. Are we going to be seeing some more Gigantor X at Dragons!!!
