New Goukens: Ask a question get an answer

You can’t hit with anything after you hit an airborne opponent with Denjin. The tatsu will also miss in that combo.

Thank you.

Well, I will try to help although this sounds trollworthy. Firstly, I’m assuming you mean a demon flip with lk. Then you combo into cr.hp xx ex palm, hit with U2, and add ex tatsu. Why I think you might be trolling is because ex tatsu uses kick buttons so even if “it switches me over”, as you said, you would not get ex counter, unless you are playing pre AE, in which case you need to update.

However, the combo you are asking about is possible but where you are in the stage may matter. The easiest way I think is you should start the flip mid stage (Gouken standing on the red line in training stage) so that once you get to Denjin, you should be able to see one end of the screen, and Gouken should be near the middle of the tv. Then when the opponent bounces off the wall you should be able to just ex tatsu as he falls in front of you. If he’s too far away, try starting the dive kick a little closer to the wall. Keep trying until you find the right spacing. You can also just dash after the Denjin and do ex tatsu right away and you SHOULD have enough time to hit that.

You need to lighten up on the trolling.

But I did not mention I am playing AE on PC so not Ultra AE.

But the other person just said airborne denjin is not capable of being comboed into. So now I am not sure.

I also have been doing this combo in the corner.

Ok ok lol. You caught me. I’ll be nice.

No, it’s not possible after ex palm. Can you explain to me how you’re getting ex counter by mistake?

I am guessing I am putting the input wrong; but I was assuming since it turns me over, because the denjin after ex palm will bounce them off the wall. Therefore Gouken will be facing right, then bounces, facing left, I figured since I did tatsu while at right it switches over adding a forward, making me do the counter, when I delay it, I always get a neutral kick of whatever ex kick registered first.

Ok, but tatsu requires kick buttons and counter requires punch buttons. There should be no counter happening if you are trying to tatsu.

Anywayyyyy…

Why not practice raw Denjin to ex tatsu. It’s very easy to do. Practice it with Denjin at 4 hits and 8 hits and whatever in between so you get the feel for when to tatsu after the wall bounce. Just pay attention to where the opponent is in the air as he’s falling. I try do my tatsu input just before the opponent reaches Gouken’s head height.

Also, stop doing Denjin right in the corner at first. The fact that the opponent is turning Gouken around is making this more complicated than it needs to be. Try having Gouken almost full screen away from the corner with the opponent closer to the corner. Denjin…dash in…ex tatsu. Should work like buttah. This will help you get used to the wall bounce timing. If you do 8 hit Denjin, you have so much time you will probably end up doing tatsu too early at first. Just keep practicing.

Low counter requires kicks.
Also “You can’t hit with anything after you hit an airborne opponent with Denjin. The tatsu will also miss in that combo.” Is this true? I have yet to see a video of someone doing so also.

Just go to practice and do it yourself. You’ll get all the doubt out of the way

Counter has not been on kicks for a long long time. It’s LP, MP, and HP for counter and nothing will combo after the wall bounce if you land denjin on an airborne opponent.

That’s it. Those are facts.

What are our decent frame traps I’m learning gouken bit by bit and wondered what frame traps we have??

CL.mp to delayed cr.hp is good and cr.jab to cr.hp or cr mp is good. CL.st.hk can be good w cr.mp also

I’m a fan of c.LP, cs.MP.

far.mp on counter hit is pretty good, as +8fr then. i use it after close mp or jabs on block. i prefer it over cr.hp as slightly faster. cr.jab in lp senku or lk chains is also good for frame trapping.

even far lk is good for long range frame traps in pokes as +3fr on hit

What is the point of being able to cancel into parry? It just gets armor broken because the opponent gets reversal timing. For example when your opponent blocks your jumping in attack, and they shoryu immediately after you land…if you try to parry the shoryu, it just gets armor broken. Or it will you just push you too far away and by the time they attack, the parry is no longer active.

It’s an advanced option. You don’t use it to catch reversals. You use it to punish patterns that you notice. Like, the other day I noticed a Chun I was fighting was mashing cr.tech so I canceled 2 jabs into low kongo and boom! Did it again immediately and BOOM! Then I got in once more and it was an easy throw.

A

Against shoto and dp players it has to be very careful, because every move in reversal brakes the Kongo, so if they’re mashing it, it will be broken. So what you do is instead of Kongo just block or do back dash after your regular string and see what happens!!!

Soooooo…

  1. What’s the consensus on USF4 Gouken?

  2. I’m good at zoning but lack oki. Is there a “works against all” oki setup I can use after a sweep?

  3. Is the parry a viable anti-air if I know my opponent will be jumping in with an attack?

Think that’s it for now. I’ve been testing out many characters and decided to use Rolento and Gouken. I haven’t used him extensively but he seems to be very easy to play. Thank you!

Sure, Gouken is easy to play. I’m not sure if you expect him to make it easy to win though.

Soooooo…

  1. Too early to tell because Ultra itself has a ton of problems, but in my opinion this is the most solid version of Gouken yet.
  2. One move to own them all? No. Very much no. There is instant flip instant kick that will land you safe or early for most characters. Other than that, no. Gouken is not Akuma. You need to know match ups and manually time things depending on spacing and character. But he’s very easy to play.
  3. Yes, if you know then it’s one of the best anti-airs in the game with a 1 frame start up. It gets tricky when you face assholes like Elf and C.Viper and AKUMA and such, though.

Sorry for the tongue in cheek comments. I’m just pretty sure I’ve seen you discussing Akuma when I was spying on those forums and am now amazed that Akuma has fallen that far for someone who has been playing him for a long time is now switching to Gouken.

@climaxter‌

Wicked, thanks. Actually, you’ll be surprised to know that Akuma was my main for a very short period. My most played character is easily Dee-Jay. Heck, I even played M. Bison more. I’m a big fan of the Akuma character but his play-style just hasn’t gelled with me. He’s a sub I use when I want to improve my fundamentals.
