New Goukens: Ask a question get an answer

I get back from my weekend and see 25 responses in the newbie thread. I thought we were helping someone :-\

Well, if any new Goukens came in here, at least they’d get an advanced course in convoluted, makeshift, duct-tape solutions that really don’t fix anything. All they have to do is be reflective about their losses and ask…would armor safe EX Kongo have won me that match? Maybe if they were playing Adon…

the things i come back to when i get away from the internets

Keep USF4 discussions in the right thread. I’m not a mod, but I’m thinking of new gouken players. As a fairly new gouken myself, these arguments make it harder for me to find the information I want without asking a question that may have already been posted.

Anyways. I was wondering if there are any wiff DP setups for 3 frame DPs off goukens most reliable hard knockdowns? Forward throw > dash > slight step forward > hk demonflip into divekick might be one, but I haven’t been able to test it. Sorry if this was already addressed.

edit: wiff dp safejumps if that wasn’t clear. I already looked at the os jab video in the previous page.

forward throw > dash > f.jmp > command dive kick

this can be either wiff or safejump, depending on timing inside the command dive kick window.

aye hi traffic thread, I posted this two weeks ago…

@richhobo
actually this is everything you really need (like stated by arti)

cr.hk > immediate jump > command dive kick
f.throw > f.dash > immediate jump > command dive kick

the command dive kick has a built in mix up (flexible timing) to make it either a safe whiff against 3fr dp or a true 4fr safe jump. if 4fr safe jump, close mp can be a true block string due to hitting so deep…

plus
f.throw > f.dash > f.step > hk flip kick for a cross up kick which let most srk whiff…

theres even safe dashes after soft knockdowns , hes loaded been doing it so long, descriptions will escape me…

I cross up with flip kicks on the LEFT vs wakeup …I’m so fuckin OG

^safe jumps?

yes, the (forward throw > dash) or (sweep) > forward jump > command dive kick is a wiff jump with perfect timing, or a safe jump when delayed.

Sorry I was talking to takinflight. Id imagine you can get 3 frame safejumps off soft knockdowns with command divekick or ambiguous jump forward.

yup and dash in too…

if I’m feeling gamey , and read the quick stands good I’d start dash ins>kongos to mix in with that as well,-…

So do evil Ryu and akuma’s command dive kicks have more hitstun than gouken’s?

certainly plays that way. Here’s all the ways, that I’ve found, that you wanna use gouken’s command dive kick:

  1. hard knockdown to safejump/fauxjump
  2. crossover reversal bait
  3. jump timing change to avoid attacks

that’s it.

after a safejump hit you should be able to link to cl.mp

after a successful crossover reversal bait you wanna chase their reversal and punish. If they don’t bite, then you’ve wiffed and you probably want to capitalize on what you hope to be their uncertainty with a cl.mk x lp.palm for fastest followup, cr.lk x lp.palm if they are the type to not be quick to recognize the wiff and still be standing, or cl.mp to whatever if you are feeling exceptionally bold.

but otherwise, I wouldn’t suggest using it, especially not that way that eryu does. On hit above the waist, you’ll be lucky to be able to link a cl.mk x palm. On block above the waist you are likely to get punished no matter what you try.

No that Im aware of. Theres no frame data on any of them in wiki

Fairly easy to see that they can hit you on any part of your body and combo from it, while Gouken’s cmd dk needs to hit below the waist to combo. Perhaps because they have faster normals overall…

No, it’s actually because the hit/block stun on Gouken’s Command dive kick is shit.

no hit stun and speed …no?

I find myself getting mashed out of any Follow-up I try to do. Like tick throw for instance. It’s either mashed out or completely whiffing the throw right in front of the opponent.

After command dk? You are hitting too high up. The move actually functions better when whiffed on purpose or to keep people from jumping out from under you. The only follow up to cmd dk that I find fairly safe is cl.mk…but it’s not safe if you hit their dome. It can also work like a tick throw because of short hit stun but if they are mashing reversal, you lose.
