Kara fb is motion first, then hk + p button BUT you must delay the punch very slightly…not pressing them exactly at the same time but almost.
Oh I get the idea of plinking and kara canceling but something dumb happens to my appendages when I have to do 2 x qcf…1 qcf is no problem. I STILL, after 3+ years of Gouken, have to concentrate to make sure I get ultra to come out on time in corner combos and still, I get ex flip instead once in awhile. Add another layer to that with a kara cancel for a super punish? I guess I could practice it…
BTW…why are you kara canceling low punch super? Couldn’t you just use non-kara mp or hp super for the same distance? I would imagine you would want to kara cancel into hp super for more distance than otherwise possible…
WHHAAATT??? I can change the distance of the super?
Apparently you can kara into it like you would a hadouken which will give you an extra half step or so of distance forward.
I meant this whole using lp vs hp thing. Didnt know using a different punch alters its trajectory
Haha yeah, HP super goes further, I’m still in the habit of using lp Super, occasionally missing the opponent where a hp would hit.
Holy crap. I never knew this!!
It’s really no reason to Kara Super, unless they were beyond hp reach which reaches pretty far already.
I do Kara back grab, Kara hado, and Kara focus a lot though.
Being able Kara hp super at will would be hella nasty.
i compared the distances with all punches for the super, L,M and H. do they make ANY difference in battle?? any strength hits regardless when timed right. i was hoping that using MP or HP launches you far as hell. Like how ryu’s ex DP does with him. anyways interesting find imo but me, personally i won’t bother thinking which strength super to use since i usually use LP or HP depending on what i’m doing.
I’ve experienced drop outs when punishing with LP Super, the first hit would connect but the follow up hits would not.
I can’t remember what the situation or move was but I know it happened.
I don’t think there’s any reason not to use HP version.
Yeah you guys are spot on. I don’t know why I never thought about it, but Kara Super with fierce will cover the most distance. I’m kind of curious to see how far it goes now, seeing as you’ve all informed me that the strength changes the difference in distance as it is.
Hey Guys,
I’m looking to find another character to play, one that should help subvert the weaknesses of Gouken.
I’m looking towards high level play, to control those problem areas: Akuma, Adon, Cammy. y’know?
Any thoughts on good characters for the job?
I’ve looked at a few but none jump out like Gouken did to me, years ago. (Abel, Adon, Dudley, Ibuki)
I’ve been searching for a secondary for those 3 problem matchups also. On paper Balrog and Deejay cover those matchups well. Zangief does well against cammy and adon but loses to akuma.
Fei Long, Cammy and Akuma to come to mind but there’s a pretty large learning curve for those characters. You’ll probably end up using them more than Gouken if you picked them up as a secondary. I think for time invested zangief is probably the best choice and just bite the bullet on the akuma matchup. If you have a good understanding of footsies and spacing you can pick up gief pretty quickly.
Yeah that’s exactly my worry.
I’ll give the Bear wrestler a look at, I’m a pad player so spd’s aren’t the easiest to do for me (Personally at least), I know you only have to do 7 points.
It’s probably just something to practice.
Thanks for your thoughts.
7 points? Hmmm…if you are talking about the rotation of the stick I don’t think you even need to go that far. f,df,d,db,b,ub should do it I believe.
Yeah that’s what I meant, a half circle +1.
I don’t know why 7 came to mind, it just seemed the right number, I think I was probably thinking of a clock face.
Haha, It took me a few times to count from forward - around to - up back, for me to actually believe it.
Seems weird, but yeah that’s what I meant. =)
I’m thinking more and more about picking up gouken. I main Akuma and I enjoy characters with a lot of tricks. my question is how hard is it to pick gouken ? I’m not talking about all the match up specifics but just to be a solid gouken combo/reset and spacing wise
Gouken’s Combo’s are the easiest in my opinon, can you do a srk? haha
As for resets they’re generally easy too, the most complicated ones involving a tatsu fadc, i don’t consider worth the risk so I don’t bother.
The hardest thing to learn is his normals in my opinion.
Combos are pretty easy for the most part. Resets can be a little on the tough side at first.
I think the spacing and match up specifics go hand in hand, so that will be most of the learning curve.
Goukens dive kick operates more like Akumas d+mk in regards to his Gouken/Demon Flip. Akumas trajectory on his DF is different than Goukens, and Akuma has more options to lead into Vortex.
He’s very tricky to lean and use though, downside is he has no srk. Upside is you can adapt to patterns and bait for good damage.
Edit: Black-Toof I didn’t see your response… I could have saved myself some time.
slide kara …mirror me, i will teach those who reach out
