New game jitters

Hi everyone. How are you all doing? Well I hope.

Ive been frequenting this site for a long time but finally decided to make an account.

I have a question that Im not sure even has an answer.

Whenever i fight new people I get SUPER nervous and my combo completion percentage drops by like 70%.

What does one do to get over these pre/in-game jitters? I dont want to go to my first tourney and lose because my stupid butterflies were messing me up.

Please veterans any help would be amazing.

You just have to find a way for yourself to think more positively and be calm. Just try your best to not stress, and if you do, just laugh at yourself and mention how you always get stressed. Losing stupidly a bunch of times will happen even once you get really good, so just roll with it and concentrate on having fun while trying to get better. If someone rushes you down and just owns you, don’t think “SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT”, just think “Wow!” and do you best to figure out how to fight.

The more times you put yourself in the hotseat, the more natural it will become. Even if you get knocked out of the tournament immediately in your first two matches (its gotta happen to 25% of the entries), you can still have lots of playtime in casuals!

There’s no other way around it besides experience. After a while you should be able to control it and hopefully focus that energy into being more focused. You just need to know your game and be able to rely on the fundamentals of your character when you need to.

it’s going to happen. Eventually it will go away. Just try to stay calm/think about your combos/try to not push the mental “panic button”. Learn from your mistakes at the tourney. Make some friends(who you can practice with online/offline).

Practice and time. If you can do a combo in your sleep 100% of the time you will only drop it 1 out of twenty times when your nervous however if your at 95% with a combo I with no pressure I would say your 50/50 at pulling it off under pressure. Everyone has that issue and it never goes away just keep at it and your nerves will settle. I’m at the point after going to a couple of tourneys a month for a few years that I need to get my self hyped up for smaller tourneys.
