No, I know that.
Like I said when I read it I agreed with it. It just brings up this same issue. Putting it in the article would have been counterproductive to the message of the article, but the issues still exists, so I bumped the thread over here.
There isn’t much to talk about, I think at this stage it’s quite obvious AE2012, UMvC3, SFxT and Soul Calibur V are guaranteed of their spots in EVO2012. That Persona fighter won’t be in as it’s being released in the summer, TTT2 won’t be getting a console release anytime soon, Skullgirls I think has a slim chance of making it to EVO2012 (perhaps it might make it to EVO2013 if a community for it is there by then), BB has an even slimer chance considering how its more or less a dead game. The only questions are whether or MK9 and KOFXIII will be in EVO, I think MK9 has a decent chance of a return and how KOFXIII performed in NEC and performs in SCR will determine its fate.
Don’t you know that the word “dead” here means “can’t get 300 people or more in EVO”?
Which is also why all fighting games stopped existing lately other than SF4,MVC3 and SFXT.
As a player you gotta see where your priority lies. Like does the competition matter for you more than the game quality? Or will you still dedicate yourself to a game where it’s only 1 or 2 other people playing? If it’s the latter, would you travel to where there is a decent sized scene and would you go overseas to play it?
Live Journal time: The worst thing I did for VF5 was NOT go to EVO when it was a major game. I was told to go anyway by one of the best players in the nation, who played multiple games, but VF was his favorite. Come to find out some big names(not gonna bother name dropping) play this game and there are some heavy hitters in this game would be there. The game was featured 2 years in a row at WCG. Afterwards I thought to myself, “If I would’ve stuck with this hardcore I could be playing this in Shanghai against the likes of top players from Japan, Korea, Europe etc.”
So yeah, it depends how hard you love your game. Good online is must for this, but even moreso is the drive to get better.
I wish i had made a thread two years ago to address this serious discussion point and bumped repeatedly
…oh well, even if I did i guess no one would have paid attention (purely guessing here) and it would have slid back down into the depths of FGD until it was too late to preemptively address the issue
