That was a commercial/Capcom decision. Everyone knows TvC is and was dead by this time. SC4, 3s, or CvS2 would have done just as good, if not better in terms of numbers if they went in instead of TvC.
It all depends on what Capcom and (maybe) Namco want to run
There used to be different communities that could come together in a single place as one big tournament with multiple games, and it was fun that way. It was like a festival or some shit where everyone came to show off their skills in different things (games) and there was a real variation.
Now its just SF4 and sometimes Tekken and some random doujin game or BB has an OK showing. Everyone shows up to keep showing how shitty they and/or their character selection is, hoping the “compressed” tier list comes through in showing Gen is really a competitor (lol) since despite being low, he’s still quantitatively closer to Rufus/Akuma/whoever is top now (I dont follow) than Sean is to Yun in 3s and to ride top player’s nuts, usually Justin unless Daigo is in town to take everyone’s money, in person.
Also, the variation in the tournament and running whatever they want? Read the paragraph just above this: I’m sure Fugee and Ghaleon KNOW SF4 will have a far better turnout than any other game they run, so what are they running for main games? Obviously MvC2, but Guilty Gear, UMK3, X-Men vs SF, 3s Arcade, games THEY and they know their community likes to play.
Please define one tangible benefit to anyone who hates SF4 of G4 broadcasting some SF4 matches or a handful of SF4 players being sponsored, because I’m not seeing the connection besides some hand waving and bullshit about trickle down interest in non SF4 games.
Either way, the only time this is ever really an issue is at Evo, since most other majors will run many more games, however for whatever reason, people let a single weekend a year dictate whether or not a game should be played or not, so for some reason this is really significant.
Well, there’s obviously no benefit for the people who for some strange reason feel SF4 is a personal insult to them and do everything in their power to denigrate and deride anyone who would dare enjoy it
well actually userid 118764, it is insulting because they could have made a good game and everyone would have played it anyway and we would have had a good game be ‘where the comps at’ instead of a shitfest
Why would 122692 try to use userid as some sort of insult? And there are plenty of other games if you aren’t an SF fan, and pherai pointed out that other majors do tend to play lots of other games.
in regards to the first inquiry ‘eat shit’ and about the second one this is ultimately about the smaller scenes and tournaments because uhhhhh idk look at the post-sf4 Fighting Game World???
i dont think there is any real solution to the no. of games to competition inverse proportion, its just how it is. youll have to be satisfied with your circles
Good thing we have this handy thing called the internet then.
Let’s face it: sure, SSF4 is pretty damn popular right now; but that doesn’t mean other games don’t exist. If you prefer those games, play those games - it’s the luck of the draw really. There’s no solution, and there doesn’t need to be one. There’s no use moaning. If you like a game, play it, and try and share it with your friends or find other people to play with online.
That’s pretty cute. Care to actually respond to my opinion, or did you make this thread purely to bully people into agreeing with you?
Again - if you don’t like SSF4, that’s completely fine and dandy. Don’t play it, and by all means, lament that your favorite game isn’t the most popular - but don’t get pissy at everyone else for liking it and insult the people who do, especially not in this absurd “it’s not even a fighting game” manner. You have characters on each side of the screen and you try and beat each other’s health bar down; sounds like a fighting game to me. I’m a science fiction fan and I didn’t like Avatar, but lord knows I’m not rump roasted over people going to see it instead of renting Blade Runner or something.
Besides, as far as I’ve seen in recent tournaments, there’s plenty of non-SF4 fare. Tekken 6? BlazBlue? Arcana Heart 3? Melty Blood? Are those too mainstream for you too? I’ve played the new MK, and it seems pretty solid. Take your pick.
Not the benefit of those things, those things are benefits… of what? of most of the US scene coming together behind one game whether they like that game or not. The split interest caused by the release of all of these games will probably not amount to anywhere near as much group pull for one game as SF4 got because it was standing pretty much alone on top of the US scene, And therefore not lead to as many benefits for any one game.
Majors are the middle ground, majors will be fine. But try running a small weekly for five different games and try getting people to cough up 5 games worth of entry fees regularly, it ain’t happening.
Its not that they’re playing a game that I don’t prefer its that they’re playing a game that THEY don’t prefer. Do you realize how many very good SF4 Players don’t even like SF4. the topic comes up ALL THE TIME. It wasn’t too bad when there wasn’t much going on but thats about to change,
In a thread about tournament variety, please don’t bring up internet competition as a viable replacement.
I’m not talking about finding a few people to have some casuals with, that will still happen even if it is online, but having a tournament scene for a game is something completely different, there other things to consider, like i said earlier even the burden of so many entry fees if a place did hold all of these tournaments is something that would affect numbers.
Nope, it’s not. Still, I don’t see that really being a good enough reason to be worried - there are lots of good fighting games coming out, and if they get popular, they might get a tourney scene, however small. Also, apologies for snapping about “making the thread to bully people”; I read things wrong and thought that thatsmindgames had started it, not you. My bad.
True, internet isn’t a replacement. Thing is, I don’t really think the problem is too many games coming out; I honestly think that with some fighters, you’d be hard pressed to get a mass of people interested to begin with. Street Fighter is sort of the grand-daddy, and MVC has star power - but what about everything else? MK is a bit nostalgic I guess, but show the average joe Melty Blood or something and they’re not going to be able to make heads or tails of it. Street Fighter is the standard, and it’s familiar. Right now I’m more thankful that there is a tourney scene at all, much less worried about which games are being played. It’s sad that people are being forced to play a game they don’t like, though; still, that seems like it’d be their problem, not the game’s.
uh tekken 6 is good i guess but i would rather play ttt or vf or tobal no 2 and lol if you would play bb over guilty gear. mbaa is good. anyway you are a really new user to this community (the SF4 one) and that makes it understandable that you think that if you just wish hard enough then other games will have comp to play against
anyway everyone go ahead and watch as new user ‘TheWaffleCult’ (take note that his posting is really similar to tonythetiger and kalyx or uhhhh i cant remember the other one i was going to mention) goes ahead and drags this thread out really far and makes lots of metaphysics posts that say literally nothing
