nods My grandpa was the same way. He rarely if ever spoke about the war. I think just recently he’s finally been opening up a bit about it, but mainly about homeland stuff when he was training here. He got stationed in Hawaii I guess just after Pearl Harbor and helped with the cleanup…but other than that shrugs.
I didnt take the new job. I started training for it and realized that the job required ALOT more than the boss had mentioned…I cant go into what because of privacy laws, but it should have started at 9-11 bucks an hour instead of 7 to say the least. I also realized - I just dont want to work phones for awhile. Im sick of them. So Im going to stay miserable at the old job, sorting shit. Oh well. Ive started meeting some cool people there, one guy DJs and Im trying to hook him up with a friend of mine. It wont work, but Im bored and I have nothing else to do with my summer but work, be miserable and play matchmaker. Everyday at work I sing the “Im going to kill myself” song to my friends. They’ve started learning the words and sing along now. Maybe we can start a company choir.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEKS!!! Course, I already told you this, but I though it was worth repeating. Sorry I didnt find you any cute girls at the club last night, but you did get offered some illegal contraband by the blonde chick and that was worth it in itself to see the look on your face when she asked you. “Hi, whats your name, want some ***?” She’s a funny girl, that one. I kinda like her, she certainly bemuses me. Did you get to see more break dancing? I swear to god, the Granasty does get better. Well…maybe. Hee hee.
has anyone here attended a “take back the night rally” or know someone who has?
the reason I’m asking is this, my younger sister is involved with NOW and the UMKC Women’s Center in helping plan a rally for October here in k.c. I’ve been doing some research online about these rallies and there is a growing consensus(sp) that many of these marches & rallies are really counterproductive to the cause of anti-violence against women.
the umkc group, still in the planning stages, has decided (for now) to have a few speakers share their stories of survival. This is where I’m becoming more and more concerned that this section of the rally is NOT a good idea. It can come off as proclaiming you’re a victim more so than someone who overcame a personal trauma. There’s also this group therapy dynamic in a public forum that’s just wrong, in my mind, as well. I’ve always thought events like this should focus more on preventitive measures, personal safety, self-defense and neighborhood watch groups; with counselling centers offering their help but downplaying the “victim” aspect of it, at least publicly.
any thoughts on this. I’m just terribly confused and torn with this
so feedback is most welcome on this topic.

D9: at least you still had a job to go back to and didn’t burn your bridge. you’ll find something you like, eventually.
ang: it helps to talk about everything, but I don’t like sharing in masses. I’d rather hear about how we can overcome it not what happened to you in detail. :bluu:
anyways, about this site thing… I thought of a corny name. how about Game Angels? yeah… dorky I know, but the domain is open. its something we can work with too.
as far as personal stuff goes, this week was pretty good even after what happened to my mom. she’s doing better but they might need to do surgery. other than that I went to Smackdown taping on Tues. that was pretty fun. I saw myself on TV a lot when it aired on Thursday. the Sears Point… excuse me… INFINEON RACEWAY race was pretty dope. got Dale Jr’s autograph. man… he’s so much cuter in person. sigh I <3 Dale Jr. although, the only part that sucked was that I got sunburned. it wasn’t all that bad, but it was enough to make me wanna curl into fetal position and cry.
man I am just batting a thousand today!!! and I totally agree with you TC on not sharing in masses…but damn if those little hens didn’t peck my ass to death because I quesioned it!!! I’m convinced I’m this huge glutton for punishment…or it’s the full moon…but whatever it is, it beat my ass down with a quickness. my turn for an ass beating…shrugs
you know me I can’t keep my damn mouth shut, but I decided to address the same questions, along with a few others about the whole misperceived mission that these rallies can sometimes produce. like the whole angry mob of women marching down the streets, “allegedly taking back the night” and protesting violence towards women. I was trying to keep this open dialogue with both the group here at the UMKC women’s center and some of my colleagues who were skittish about involving themselves in this event. so I took it upon myself to post their questions and concerns to the Group’s board. surprisingly this set off a powder keg of emotions within almost every member involved.
I had done some research on the history of TBTN marches & rallies and learned that it’s still a misunderstood protest by a large number of people. I personally didn’t see any harm in learning from those misunderstandings and improving on the protest methods itself, but the rest of the group saw it as a threat from within and quickly tried to silence me by refusing to discuss or debate the subject further.
so I dropped out of the group altogether. when an organization has that much fierce animosity towards one person playing devil’s advocate for an afternoon, they will ultimately cut their own throats and I’m not sticking around for it.
[/end whiny-ass-rant]
hmmm…Game Angels…hmmm…I like it. Can I still keep my pitchfork and horns, cuz I’ve grown quite fond of them over the years?!
glad to hear things are going better for you too. and I hope your mom makes a quick recovery. yeah sunburns suck hands you a gallon jug of Aloe Vera gel and a margarita for the pain feel better
ang: yeah you can. I’mma keep my bat wings and fangs. >_>;; … >=]
anyways, how do you wanna do this? domain is about $9 to register @ GoDaddy.Com. and as far as hosting I can look around for something cheap AND reliable. as far as forums go… do you PHPP or vBulletin? 20mbs enough to give out for sites? or lower it down to 10?
I’m kinda spoiled by vBulletin :D…we could start everyone out with 10 mbs, and say every 6 mos. if anyone requires more space will give em an additonal 10. PM me the rest of the details of fees, charges, etc. for opening and maintaining the site. I have to run out the door to work now, but I will be online this evening and tomorrow.
later, Ang
Whats up everyone…i don’t feel loved anymore. I’m not in any of these conversations:( Jen, if you’re not busy, you think you could make me a lilo and stitch av? With them 2 dancing and my name…thats all nothing too spazzy. Let me know sweetness.
Smitty:wtf:
So far no drama, and I’m having a GREAT time. Emphasis on GREAT. I’m seeing a lot of old friends…and well, getting to know my ex-girlfriend again…maybe just a little bit better.
some really kewl news for a change
the multi-cultural art exhibit (at the Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery) that I’m particpating in starts July 5th and runs through August 3rd; opening reception is still scheduled for July 12th. Misha, Ben-ra, Ben Weeks, & Josh, you’re all still invited to the reception. My art buddy Will, just sent the invitations out to me today so I should get them Monday and will re-route them to you all shortly thereafter. If you can’t make it to the reception it’s cool, just stop by the gallery during July sometime and have a look at the show.
my other good news is one of my favorite art professors is coming into town next weekend (same time the art show starts) so I’ll be having a mini-reunion with him and some other classmates that still live here in k.c. I haven’t seen almost anyone since graduation 2 years ago…I never thought I’d miss those cats so much.
ok I’m done acting like a giddy-school-girl now
Doc, glad you’re having a good time in Joplin…have a safe trip back. yeesh watch out for those ex’s though:confused:
D9: scooby-doo where are you these days? buried alive in the mailroom again:p
What happened at MWC? I expected to at least see a few of you ladies there, and the only girls I saw were either 1. playing bemani games hardcore or 2. there was a girl who was the GF of some guy from Michigan. Besides that nothing. BLAH another sausagefest!
well to be quite honest Phil…I’m broke as all hell…and not just I don’t have any money for another pack of smokes either…I’ve got student loans and regular bills to pay off so I’m not going anywhere for quite some time. unless of course I win the lottery in the next couple of days
