Large companies can decide to move into an area and be a dick by cutting service to all competitors and potential new challengers.
Imagine if you went to a service and suddenly it is being provided to you at 1 KB/s. It’s technically being provided to you, but you can’t use it. Now the big company’s more expensive and shittier product will work better, only because it is provided at expected speeds.
The big company wins, promoting monopolies, killing competition, and all the while the consumer is paying for it.
In the long run this is the death of our economy.

ISPs would not set themselves up to be sued. People could argue a breach of contract because they would be paying for a service (a specific internet speed) and if the ISP purposely throttles service then they would be breaching the contract.
I won’t even get into anticompetitive laws for that one.

This is how it usually works: Democrats come up with an idea to enrich themselves and screw over the general public. GOP balks and says the government should be cut and it has to stop interfering everywhere. Democrats insist they should be trusted and minorities and women so there. Liberal general population eats it up and repeats all the catch phrases and BS they’re trained to repeat. GOP loses on the issue, Democrats pass it and screw everything up. After the screw up they try to blame the GOP/conservatives in general again. The general public buys it and the cycle continues to be repeated.
It’s the same gameplan used for student loans, health care, bank de-regulation, QE Infinite and in general fucking everyone over while asininely stating “It’s Bush’s fault.”
Even that liberal rag has to admit the facts: the GOP tried to stuff Democrat Tom Wheeler, while the liberal fanatics bitched about it, but ultimately got what they claimed they wanted.
