NEW DreamCast Emulator: nullDC v1.0.0 Beta (Runs games at FULL SPEED!)

AMD 64 3200
512 ram
Radeon 9800 pro

games work fine, with minor graphical errors in cvs1. But i’m sure that’s due to the complex overlaying shit they did with the backgrounds in that game

All the 2D games seem to have alot of lines going through the sprites and bg’s same problem as Chankast

3S slows down alot whenever someone does a super aswell

Is there any way to improve the sound quality? Both games I’ve tested so far (3rd strike and soul calibur) run great but the sound is driving me up the wall. It sounds really crackily (sp?) and distorted. Is it because I’m using windows vista?

Here is my setup:
Windows Vista Ultimate
Amd 64 x2 5200+
2GB DDR2 800 SDRAM
eVGA Nvidia 7950GT
Shuttle SN27P2
Using onboard sound

haha wow, I’ve never been so happy I haven’t thrown out my 100+ DC games since my system died 4 years ago.

awesome job on the emulator!

Ok, for some reason, my gamepad won’t function properly with the emu. It used to work, but now only the D-pad and 1 of the 8 buttons are working.

We got quite a few requests asking how to use your backup CDs to play DreamCast games on the nullDC emulator.

edit: woops, sorry for the double post

I’m on a comp with 512mb ram, 1.6 ghz Celeron M processor and 128mb video memory, how well should this run on my comp?

Not well at all. Infact, sorry to say this, but I wouldn’t even bother trying.

actually, i managed to get it working on my Pentium M 1.7g, 512 ram, 64mb shared video mem laptop using the chankast plugins. i get more than 60fps even with geneijin on. who knows, maybe it’ll work on yours, Kayin.

mvc2 runs at 55fps. i don’t have a copy of cvs2 to try right now, but it should be a tad faster than MVC2.

Your cpu is the bottleneck of the system, no way to run fullspeed

Any chance of being able to step through assembly code/view memory as its running? There’s a lot of things a lot of folks would like to do to some games, and the ability to peek at running code would help greatly.

oh, i just remembered… you guys know when the chankast devs were talking about having an xbox port?

it’s a longshot, i know, even from looking at the system requirements.
i just like the idea.

Can you use a controller for this? For some reason it doesn’t seem to detect input when I try to map the buttons. I know I could use Joy2key if I really wanted to, but I’d hope it would have regular compatibility (If it doesn’t it’s no big deal as I have my DC about three feet away from me).

Edit: Looks like the program answered my question for me, I need joy2key. Oh well, maybe when more people develop plugins for it.

Edit the deuce: So, after using it for a bit just to see how good it already is, I played MvC2 and maintained 60 FPS throughout all gameplay. There was a bit of lagging getting up to that point, mainly in loading screens, but it plays great. And my specs for comparison sake:

AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+ OCed to 2475 MHz (Running on an MSI Mainboard)
2 gigs of DDR2 PC-5200 OCZ platinum gaming RAM
eVGA GeForce 7900 GT KO stock speeds 256 Mb of VRAM

This was running off of a CD as well, so I’d imagine speeds would increase a decent bit (As well as stability) off of an image.

This is gonna be awesome. I know my processor and memory are good, but I have a GForce 5200 fx. Think thatys good enough?

It’s a shame that SF3 Double Impact doesn’t work yet…but hey, it seems like a majority of the DC library works fine. Good shit there.

About SF4:DI - If I remember right, DI uses a WinCE program at boot to select the game, and a regular katana dev program for the real games. If I can get anything out of null (I have a way slow PC) Ill try that to see if direct booting the games will help it work.

Games seem to run just fine on my MacBook Pro running Bootcamp.

Specs:

Windows XP SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz
2GB DDR2 memory
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM

NullDC includes a debugger

Props to toodles!shit is the bomb.Get it now.
Best torrent out. Consider it an easter egg for easter.
