on the 70’s thing, they got good movies like bruce lee’s shit and some other older good flicks. problem is that most older movies are fucking slow in the action department. look at drunken master 1 (oldschool slow but still good), and the legend of drunken master (fucking awesome). uncomparable. movies like young master, police story 1 & 2 and even 3. end 80’s and early 90’s had bar none the best action ever in movies. only outdone by tom yong goong and ong bak to a degree. if only these 2 movies delivered everything as good as they did with the action.
also im not saying 70’s flicks suck, they got some hot shit in there. i grew up watching these movies. its just not as good as the end 80’s and early 90’s imo. for some reason the best animes are also from the same period…? even most good normal movies are from these ages. end 80’s and early 90’s was probably one of the best times concerning movies. basically 80’s and 90’s.
also jacky chan and jet li are pretty much dead to me since they went american on me. wtf where they thinking? rumble in the bronx is like the official downfall of jacky. dude hasnt made a single movie since he went to the states. look at police story 4, even 3 shits bricks all over it. people might like romeo must die but jet li hasnt reached fist of legend level movies since he went to the states and made all those bs movies. not saying all his old shit was gold, but at least he delivered.
edit: told you guys about the last ip man movie. it was actually good. not as good as ip man 1, but far better than 2.
Blade of Fury wire work was fucking awful! They look like fucking kangaroos jumping around…Not to mention the speedups uhhh, But the fucking ending was so fucking epic…One of the greatest finale you will see in kung fu history!

The ones that had good wirefu was Once Upon A Time in China 1 & 3…Also the Fong Sai Yuk series & Tai Chi Master…Hell even Swordsman 2 was the shit! Hero was done well too!
Sure majority of the 70s were slow but come on, anything w/ Chang Cheh & the venoms were fucking awesome! Ti Lung was the shit! Anything w/ Lau Kar Leung was automatic awesomeness!
The 80s were the best terms of hard hits & fast action…
Shaolin Temple, Police Story, & Dragons Forever has yet to be matched in terms of actual fights!
Ong Bak is a fucking joke compared to HK action films…Tom Yung Goon ending was a huge improvement but the movie was unwatchable…Ong Bak 2 was actually pretty decent, i think Tony Jaa would have worked great say Sammo directed his ass…
Yeah im pretty sure it wasn’t about all money cuz all rich people want more money but actors love that fame.
I can understand why they left, they wanted to make it big in the US. Its pretty much a lot of actors dream to be a huge hollywood movie star. I think most of them did decent w/ their US careers…Jackie got Rush Hour series, Jet did all those black films, Woo had a few blockbuster films…CYF, Donnie Yen, & Yeoh not so much…Most of their films were lackluster compared to their HK films but it was still pretty cool to actually see your favorite actors on the big screen. Hell we even got Jet Li & Jackie Chan together in one film…
The problem was that all the big stars left & we got stuck watching pop stars try to save the HK industry & shitty ass Wong Jing comedies…The only thing that saved HK as being a complete joke as film industry was Johnny To’s crime films…
the only decent shit jacky made was the rush hour series, besides that all his US shit was uuter crap, straight garbage. theres actually young people that like jackys rumble in the bronx and never seen his really good old shit. which is just sad.
jets black movies where wack imo. working with crackheads = meh. xman cant act nfor shit. add the facts the fights sucked, which should be the selling point from fight flicks.
personal opinions. i didnt like any of jets later movies. especially movies like forbidden kingdom i cant stand. but thats just me. rumble in the bronx killed jackys comedy and his action as well. none of his movies since this one came even close to what he was doing before this. but he is getting old, so maybe he just wanted to take it easier.
Look at the amount of money they were pulling in before Hollywood. Just because money is not of major importance to you it that doesn’t mean it isn’t for others. The difference in one million alone is significant to “sell out” let alone 10 + million. You do know Jackie is pulling in 10-15 million per picture now right? His net worth probably wasn’t even 10 million before he hit it big. Now he getting that per movie.
ask any real chinese person that actually lives in china or lived there the same question. if you honestly believe jacky didnt make mad money your retarded. he was making big ass numbers before hollywood. dude isnt just in movies, hes a real businessman (not just actor/singer) and probably a mobster too. at least according to the chinese friends i got that actually lived in china for a long ass time.
also jacky might seem like a funny guy. but when he gets drunk and starts raging he cant be stopped. the only person that can calm him down is the same person that was kicking his ass when he was young, sammo hung. dude makes crazy money in china and gets madd respect. nobody dares to fuck with him, theres a reason why they always get sammo when hes out of control. cause hes probably the only one that can talk to jacky like that (since hes been like an older brother tpo him since they where kids, and respect and honor actually mean shit in the east).
this dude is seen as a funny/popular guy who makes some money thanx to hollywood in the west. in the east hes pretty much unfuckwithable with, in any form. has been so looong before hollywood bs.
Jackie has always wanted to do more traditional acting, getting away from just fighting. It’s not a recent change. There are plenty of interviews over the years where he has stated this, and also that he doesn’t like doing American movies because he doesn’t understand American humor and doesn’t always like the roles he is given. You can’t really hate on a man for following his dreams - he has churned out tons of great action movies over the years and if he wants to go into serious roles, he has every right to do so.
yeah thats true, but his serious movies generally suck ass. only decent one ive seen was with him going to japan as an immigration worker, that later worked for a yakuza. pretty good mvie, especially consdering how much his other serious films suck. people naturally expect humor from jacky, even i did when i was a kid. hes getting old and wants to settle down. make more serious movies and quit the action/stunt shit. not really quit, but make it so that hes known for other shit besides this.
also for a dude his age, jacky looks fucking good (no homo). WAY better tha sly, and swarz aint got shit on him. i hope i look that good or better when im close to being 60. damn.
I don’t think his serious movies suck, they just aren’t made for Western audiences for the most part - like how his Hollywood movies don’t carry the same weight over in Asia because the comedy is so different and there are cultural references they don’t understand in that side of the world. Some of his movies where he starts doing more serious acting - New Police Story was amazing. It didn’t feature too much action from him, but the depth of character really shined there. Of course, the Shinjuku Incident was really good also (that is the movie you mentioned). The Myth was good… Gorgeous was good…
You just can’t really expect him to not want to grow as an actor. I think he understands that he might have to play a typecast role in Hollywood in order to pay for the next movie that he wants to do in his own direction (under JCE). As I said before, he has said many times before he just wants to act. I don’t think he really cares about the kung fu movies anymore, which is why he is mentoring all these new actors in HK to take those roles.
agreed and disagreed. his serious movies did suck imo, just sinjuki was good imo. new ps was bs. i dont even know if ive seen myth and gorgeous. and he does want to get out of the kunf fu scene. probably more serious movies and being a businessman in china. props to jacky though, pretty much one of the few action stars that i still respect as an adult. cant stand most of the hollywood action actors, considering i thought they where the shit as a kid in the 80’s.
Little Big Soldier was a good serious flick, still haven’t gotten around to watching Shinjuku Incident. There was this one Chan flick that I watched that was fucking horrible, dude was barely even in it, Looking for Jacky Chan or The Kung Fu kid whatever it is called. Stay away from that stinker.
Edit: If they were to make a movie with just all the younger cats who would you guys like to see in it? I am thinking more Wu Jing, Dennis To, and Tony Jaa.
if jackie was in his prime gorgeous would’ve had his best fight scenes, possibly ever. bradley allen might be the best on-screen fighter jackie had ever faced.
