Okay sup, my name is raigatsu im new to forums so please dont judge me.
So im new to sf and i joined 1 week ago. i kept losing so i looked up some youtube videos. i found this one in particular – > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5xs1lkcMlI
Basicly he tells you should play ryu and you should focus on fundementals.
So what i want to ask could you guys maybe give me some fundementals on Chun?
The guide i used to learn some BNB Combos --> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ecsB5unf3fFn1h70GEvXpEaz_Z9y04EZCladmTRgEsI/edit
this is btw the latest updated guide i found so yeah… PS: English isnt my first language so yeah pweeze dont judge me :3
I think you’re getting a little mixed up between the universal fundamentals and the character specific tips. If you Google “SFIV fundamentals” you’ll get many opinions, but most of those are important. However, three of the most basic fundamentals are extremely important when using Chun.
- Anti-airing
- Spacing
- Understanding of each normal move and when to use them
Anti-Airing
This is important for her because she dies pretty quickly from pressure. Anti-airing with Chun is much more difficult than when using other characters like Ryu. All of her anti-airs are situational, which makes it difficult to do this successfully on the fly. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it at first. In fact, if you watch some high-level Chun play, most of them don’t anti-air very much. The easiest anti air for her when starting out is nj.hk. It has great range and does a decent amount of damage. st.mk is for closer jumps. st.hp is the move I use the most to anti-air slightly farther jump ins, but be careful, because it can lose consistently to jump ins like Cody’s, Ryu’s, and Kens j.hk. Be careful with the timing, because if your anti-airs trade, it will almost always be in the opponent’s favor. The final anti-air is one that almost every top Chun player uses: focus. You can choose to backdash after absorbing the attack or release it if you want to play offensively. Remember to release the focus right after you absorb the jumping attack.
Spacing
A crucial part of her gameplay that is usually one of the most difficult things for players in general to master. I recommend watching Juicebox’s explanation of footsies to better grasp this because it’s a subject that one could go on and on about, and I am not confident in explaining this.
Understanding of Normals
Chun has some of the best normal moves in the game. s.mp is her go-to poke with great range, but can be beaten by low attacks such as the shotos’ cr.mk. cr.hk is a really great move, but don’t use it too often because it can be punished by focus pretty easily. cr.mk should be used closer to the opponent. It has less range than her other pokes which limits the use of it. Experiment in the training room using her normals.
So, that’s it. I hope that helped. I’m sure other people here can give you more advice.
thnx i realy apreciate the help

Hope you’ll reply. Thanks!
Can we play her on gamepad?
Broly and Shizza (the latter being Top 8 in Evo 2010) play her using a controller, so yes you can.
I remember that i used to watch an interview with Broly which he shared the way to input Legs combos, but now i cant find it again. And English isnt my tongue language so most of Legs guide videos on Youtube are not much useful to me.
Hey @4neqs, thanks for the reply on the videos thread! Funny thing is i found your latest video on youtube last week and already saved on my celphone for constant consulting… its helping me a lot! thanks!
You sure it’s me? Most of my stuff is matchvids using an ancient cam or a cellphone lol
Glad I was able to help, though.
what vids? could you link me? :#
Check you private messages, I sent it there :3
That just sounds boring. There are only two things, how to play and how you play. For the most part just practice the move list so it wont be a problem anymore, after that you just learn how to play better over time in versus mode.
I’ve an old video I kept in my sig, I’d say I’ve a decent Chun.
