New character on the horizon: Squigly!

Apparently, a bunch of people cried at the end of her story.

And honestly? From what little I’ve seen, I don’t blame them.

I’m a bit late to the party, as I just downloaded the Steam version to try out Squigly, and she’s instantly my favorite character. Some of these day 1 observations are probably already common knowledge, but there isn’t a lot of discussion here, so whatever:

-Most of her combo routes seem pretty simple, and they revolve around looping s.HPx2 stance cancel(SC), or s.HK > … > j.MK(4) > j.HK(1) xx QCF+MK. I’m not an expert on damage scaling in this game, so it’ll take me awhile to figure out what is optimal, but you can reach 6k+ easily by using a few reps of anything and ending with QCF+MK > Throw, or tack on a DHC.

-With a charge, s.HPx2 SC can be linked into any ground normal, including itself. This is probably the most damage you can add to the beginning of a combo, especially since it doesn’t count against your IPS.

-Any time somebody blocks high against you without pushblocking, it seems you can SC your blockstring into a mixup of cr.LK / j.LP fuzzy guard. I’m not 100% sure this isn’t a flaw with the Skullgirls training dummy, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

-Cerebella is big enough that j.LP is always an instant overhead against her, even without the fuzzy guard setup. j.LP xx QCF+MK seems good for pressure and can be confirmed into a full combo.

I’ve been ending most of my combos (assuming no HK divekick was used) with QCF+MK into QCF+LP. This gives time to fully charge a stance, and get most of the other if you don’t mind giving up some pressure. And if you already have a charged punch stance you can replace QCF+LP with QCF+HP for good damage. Lvl 1 QCF+LK works too if you want to go for a mixup at the end. It leaves you with a better frame advantage than QCF+HP, as far as I can tell.

QCF + LK leaves you with so much frame advantage you can actually link after it, so yeah it does. :stuck_out_tongue:

What are some good DHC’s you guys have found from Squigly Battle Opera?

LK+MK Opera into Filia’s Fenrir Drive does tons of damage if they’re near the corner, I’ve been using s.HK > j.HK > QCF+HK to side switch. I haven’t been able to get a consistent followup from midscreen though.

With Parasoul, you can do, s.HK > LK+MK Opera > Silent Scope in the corner, or QCF+MK > LK+MK Opera > Motor Brigade midscreen.

From what I can tell, throw gives about the same amount of time to charge as QCF+LP, and it doesn’t expend a charge if you already have one. QCF+LK into mixup sounds awesome, though.

The thing about throw is that they can ground tech it, so it doesn’t leave you with positioning that’s as reliable or safe as QCF+LP’s slide. If you want to save the charge though it’s probably worth it. I’ll try that out.

Love this thread, I was just wondering though…every other character has their own subforum, why not Squigly? Is it cephalopod prejudice? This would allow separate threads to discuss say combos, or match ups, best teammates, general strategies, etc.

Likely nobody got around to requesting one. The full game with squigly was just released and all.

Unfortunately character subforums are dead on SRK (for SG). They were barely alive on SkullHeart to begin with.

I imagine once the game comes out on all platforms with the rest of the characters as well, we’ll probably get sub forums for them and Squigly. SRK is pretty bad at keeping up with this kind of stuff though.

Case in point: People have been wanting a DOA section for years now, and yet games like Divekick and Sony Smash Bros ( games most people don’t even give any real shits about) already have their own forums. Kinda’ stupid if you ask me.
