I wasn’t really for Frank West being in this game but I gotta admit he looks fun to play as so it’s cool. Looking forward to seeing Zero and Joe.
The lack of hype for Frank West in this thread profoundly offends me. He’s covered fucking WARS, people!
I didn’t give two shits about TvC until this announcement. Not nearly as crazy as Marvel, boring-ass Capcom roster (really, I never thought Ryu was cut out for the craziness of Versus games), I’m not nearly retro or Wapanese enough to give a shit about the Tatsunoko characters. Jaws should be DROPPING at how cool Frank is going to be compared to all the rest of TvC’s cast, and yet you people can barely manage so much as a gape.
EDIT: In all fairness, I can understand why people are perhaps baffled as to why Capcom didn’t choose to add more…“obvious” fighting game/Capcom characters to the TvC roster, but for better or for worse, Frank and the, um, other Mega Man character (I can’t tell them apart because I didn’t pay attention and I don’t care to, either) seem to fit with the Capcom mode of selection, which is to promote their new-ish, non-Street Fighter franchises on current-gen consoles. Hell, the suits at Capcom probably figured Frank was the ideal choice for an American audience, given that we all own Xboxes and love to play as fellow loudmouthed Americans. (Not that I don’t love Frank, but still, the Japanese marketers for these kinds of games DO tend to kind of take us as an easily read, homogeneous block.)
And really, I don’t think it would have made too much of a difference if they’d put in somebody like M. Bison or Dante. I think this game’s just kind of terminally boring on a mechanical level (not nearly as unique as Marvel; it’s more like Capcom does their own, more boring version of Guilty Gear), and I’m not hype enough for any of the roster to really get past that.
frustratedsquirrel: Glad to hear it. I came to this thread after watching NeoGAF go nuts over Frank and I was just kinda dumbfounded.

This is frank’s original voice. I still think he sounds about the same.
And Ben, you should go over to the TvC page. We love him over there.
heh. thats badass.
Dengeki confirms that it’s the same VA.
… I have to admit that I didn’t :-/. I searched this forum for a thread.
The only thing I wanted to hear from Capcom is that they’re at least going to add Deejay in Street Fighter IV. I mean the model was already being worked on in the beginning so they could just decide to finish it up whenever they wanted. Sounds fair, right? Other than that, I would have liked to see what Frank West would look like and/or how he would play in the new “Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars” coming out for the Wii, which now has a release date of January 26th, 2010 (take note, son!). Well, it looks like I’ve gotten the latter.
When I first heard that Frank West was going to be added onto the roster of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, three things came to my mind; a bat, a shopping cart, and a Servebot head. I thought, “Hey, it’d only make sense if he were to use those items in-game as weapons and special attacks”. Well, I was right. He has all three of those, and more.
As you can see in the video, he’s obviously the new joke character on Capcom’s side of the roster, outshining Viewtiful Joe this time around which I didn’t expect at all. I thought he’d be a more serious character but he ended up being funnier than Dan in Street Fighter IV! This dude can summon zombies to come and grab his opponent just like Jill Valentine in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 which I think is a great special move because you can obviously use it for trapping.
He’s got great combo and mix-up potential, great special attacks and a solid Shinku Hadoken-like projectile super. I mean, what more can you want from Frank West?
Can you say…new top tier?
FW looks like he uses the some of the same normal moves sets from roll and mega man.
Huh?
Nothing in him resembles both.
Actually his basic move set looks unique but it seems like the speed of his basic attacks / combos would feel more like Ryu and Batsu’s.
Lol, he’s just what I wanted. Gonna main him.
Heh. At first I was kind of like ‘Frank West? WHY?’ but now that I’ve seen him in action, that is freaking awesome. He’s exactly the sort of character I’d find fun.
No ummm, zombies? I figured he would have sort of played like Jill from MvC2. Or at the very least have a zombie assist. Bummy =(
^ He’s got plenty of zombies. He can even use them as projectiles.
Is that what he was throwing around? Kind of hard to see.
Edit: Ahhhh i see now! Now so bummy anymore =D
Not while Tekkaman Blade is around, unfortunately. Frank West looks SOLID but seems to lack in damage dealing ability. Oh, and you forget that he has a command grab! Those are always a welcome addition to any character’s moveset.
According to GamePro, the zombies can appear behind Frank, behind the enemy, or fall from the sky.
I could debate if this were the case, I’m dead surprised Captain Nathan Radd Spencer a.k.a The Bionic Commando didn’t make it into the series. But I do agree with you, Capcom has a far higher quality roster of characters to use aside from the bread and butter Street Fighter casts. Hell, I’m surprised Alex made it in instead of Zangief, and Batsu from Rival Schools for that fact. Going on, I’m surprised that there’s the VS from Lost Planet in the game. So yes, I agree the cast could use some work, but I am satisfied that Capcom put in some variety instead of making the cast like… you know, 65% Street Fighter.
They could have made all their voices sound extremely forced, like the English version of SF IV. (Although some of the voices are well done for their characters, Dhalsim and Zangief are wonderful in English.) but honestly, in the TvCverse, I wonder why the hell Alex speaks Japanese. He’s from New York, he does not talk with a deep Japanese voice, where is my WEAK and my WAH, WAH, WAH, and FLASH?
If thet don’t test that OTG properly I’ll be bitterly dissapointed…
I still dont like him being in here…
But then against I wanted Gene. They have things from the other 2 Clover projects. So why not the damn Godhand?
he’ll be fun to beat up on with Polymar.
