New art in KOF Xii low resolution

I got to agree with the topic creator. One look at KOFXII and you can clearly see it looks WAY worse than the rest. Now, the animation of the characters may be better than HD remix, but HD remix is a derivative of a game that came out in 1991. It is probably not a Good thing if you are being compared graphically to a game that has its mechanics from almost 20 years ago.

With that said, animation frames or not, I don’t see how KOFXII can be considered HD. Its animation may be good, but a PS1 game may have good animation, that doesn’t mean it is HD. For example, a Tekken 3 or VF2 may have a lot of animation frames out of its polygonal characters, but it isn’t HD. That is purely resolution and those sprites AREN’T high res.

with that said, in the year of the fighter, I’m deciding on If I’ll go with BlazBlue or KOFXII next. I might end up getting both, if I can get my Brother and Friends to also get it so that I can have good offline competition like I do for SFIV.

Look, we should end this thread now. It’s about a couple of people who are CapCom fans. I put it like this, people are entitled to there opinions, no matter how closed minded they are. And, again this is SHORYUKEN.COM, not a site for KoF fans anyway. Like Lesean over at deviantart.com has in his tag, and I quote “If you ‘aint being HATED ON…then you aint DOIN’ SHIT.”

LOL, that wasn’t directed towards anyone specific.

Are you sure it’s not that the sprites simply aren’t HD? This isn’t a big conspiracy. The sprites are pixelated.

So? Everything is pixelated, the entire screen is made up of pixels. SNK is known for their pixel art. Just cause its pixelated doesn’t mean its not HD, hell HD is only 1280 pixels across and 720 pixels down.

Um, pixelated here is referring to the fact that even when you overlay the sprites onto a TWO DIMENSIONAL BACKGROUND you’re still seeing massive ‘jaggies’ or ‘blocks’ along the sprite’s outlines.

If they were done properly I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t get Morrigan syndrome.

Thats a pretty retarded thing to say.

It’s a bunch of flat drawings by comic creators shown in an order over hitboxes. It looks good but it really wasn’t that hard to do. SNK went through a several step process to make these things not look flat. You couldn’t get this depth with sprites done in BB’s style.

Seriously the only reason anyway ever has complained about Kof graphics is because of the bitsyness. They look fantastic in every other regard. People bitching about how Kof has visible bits is older then old, just shut up.

They’re adding a filter for the console release so it won’t have the bitsyness anyway.

I don’t see whats so bad of OMG JAGGIES. Its a design choice. Not everyone is going to be a fan of it. They’re making filters (4 kinds) so you can choose how smooth or jaggy it floats your boat. I don’t see whats so Morrigan Syndrome about it. Its still the most detailed sprite out of any, with shadows, and even lighting effects.

It just boils down to whether you like the art style or not. Some people do, others don’t, but its exactly that. An art style issue, not a technical issue. Hell SNKP purposely said they made their sprites pixelly because its THEIR style. They wanted a different look than all the anime styled games with their bright colors and shoddy animation. Pretty much the SF3 route.

Pretty much an agree to disagree situation at this rate. Maybe the game in motion (with you playing it, it looks different sitting infront of a cabinet in CTF and playing it instead of a 720 or 480p feed from gametrailers) will convert you, maybe the Filters will convert, or the gameplay will suffice, or you just won’t like it. Its all there is to it.

Chibi…

how are you comparing the KoF12 sprites to Morrigan? GTFO, that doesn’t even make sense. Compared to KoF11, you’re getting “AMAZING” and there’s still complaints about it because it’s not “Super AMAZING”. Seriously, it’s not going to make it any less or more played. If graphics made the fighting game as much as this thread implies that they do, more people would play Guilty Gear than Street Fighter 3, and nobody would play MvC2.

Chibi, you know we all love you, man (no homo, less paedo)…

But damn.

Are you THAT offended that Chibi Idol Pixie is pixilated?

She’s like 25, anyway, man - too old for your tastes. :wgrin:

Less hate - more love.

Now then,

GIVEZ UZ RUNAWAYZ BOOBZ!!! :tup::tup:

:tup:

jabhadoken tested, mixah approved.

He’s comparing the visual “jaggies” alone when talking about the Morrigan sprite.

And yes graphics do make a fighting game sadly enough. The level of detail and the aesthetics of each selectable character go a long way for people who care little about gameplay. Its one of, if not the main, reason(s) why SF4 is popular right now, and why Tekken is the best selling fighting game franchise.

You’re typing a lot to say so little.

lol chibi u play arcana and melty blood and u complain about jaggies

Wow you guys are totally missing the point.

Pixelation is a bad thing.

It’s NOT an art style. I’m NOT talking about the art style. I’ve NEVER even referenced it to my complaint.

How do you get pixelated / jaggy sprites when they’re layed over a two dimensional background? You want to put two dimensional sprites over three dimensional backgrounds, then yes, you’ll get heavy pixelation (CvS2/MvC2). Can you imagine if 3S had done that? Having sprites be pixelated isn’t a design choice. It looks BAD.

And I keep bringing up Morrigan because she stuck out horribly in CvS2, and KofXII is akin to that.

I’m going to say it again, the sprites animate BEAUTIFULLY but they’re pixelated as fuck, and throwing ‘filters’ is shit you do to games being rereleased now because they didn’t have the technology with their own release (ie: MvC2), not a game you’ve spent however many years on just to release THIS YEAR.

Do you people think I have a vendetta or some shit, or are you just not fucking listening?

Arcana doesn’t suffer from jaggies (I don’t touch that port for shit), but MB is guilty of it, though its resolution is twice as small, so things gets ugly when you throw it onto a bigger arcade monitor / television. That’s not something I was expecting of KofXII.

Fuck the plebs, though.

Seriously, man…

@MIRC:
They’re not even in the same league. Reusing a 16 year old sprite is not the same as creating a game that has some jagged edges. The game doesn’t look any different graphically than Guilty Gear.

Quite honestly, I don’t give a fuck what Tekken and SF4 have to do with popularity. Tekken has been popular because it’s Virtua Fighter for retards for casual play and SF4 is about as popular as 3S was when Daigo made his full parry about five years ago. There’s just a lot of hype over it right now, but like SF3, it’s a shitty game. Crouching jabs and throws all fucking day.

Graphics make a fighting game? This is why SF2 has been played longer than any other fighting game. The longevity is completely unaffected by it’s graphics. It’s the game that makes it survive in the long run.

@Chibi: Ok, then I misunderstood.

My brother from another mother.

Spot fucking on! :tup:

I think SF4 will turn to be less shitty than 3S in the long run.

But it’s still fecal.

I do too, but that’s not what this topic is about, and that’s not a topic that is even welcomed, because people are stupid and don’t realize that it’s entirely based around opinion, so they take it to heart as though somebody slapped their mother with a dead man’s penis.

Actually yes. Obviously, a lot of people agree with you, but I don’t. I don’t mind the look, infact I like it.Its like people who like not using filters on MvC2 on their HDTVs while playing them on ps3 or 360.

Its obvious you and many others don’t like the outlines though. I don’t think there’s much any side can talk though that hasn’t already been said.

Look boyo, everything you mention, that’s visual, from the pixels being noticeable, to the blackoutlines, is all art direction. And yes, you commented on them. It was developed for HD display. The pixels you see were intentional. It has everything to do with what I mentioned. If you think it looks shitty in HD display, that’s fine. I’m saying I don’t see how it could possibly look shitty and feel it looks gorgeous.

Also, the smoothing filter in the console version was likely made for those who don’t enjoy the pixelized look. But SNK wasn’t out to please those people from the get-go. They’re trying to appeal to those who have got them where they are, those who have grown to like that look.

EDITED:My fault, I normally don’t get worked up or feel the need to put others down. (Changed before reading the further replies too.)
