…kidding i assume?
Then you don’t play fighting games outside Blazblue, HDR or recent 3d fighters.
You’re obviously far too much retarded to understand technology or even make a valid troll post.
Or bullshitting.
There would already be at least one 2000 post long thread in FGD if even so much as a whiff had been released hinting to such.
Come on guys… let’s just all shut up and stop posting here.
It’s a not so subtle sign that I enjoy both series.
wow finally someone talks some sense
Likewise, this thread is specifically talking about the graphical presentation of particular games. We are not talking about companies but artistic direction, not about whatever sells or what is easy. The question is if SNK has good artistic direction…and most of us agree that it does in relation to other companies. I would say Capcom did have good artistic direction, but dropped the ball immensly with the ugly SF4 graphical style and art.
Ok, so hate on the pixelation all you want, but they purposely left the black “Outlines” (a.k.a. smoke) there for a reason, it looks awesome. Several characters, including Ash, have the typical filters present on their moves. I imagine they left out the Add/Screen/Color Dodge filter to ensure the effects didn’t look like every other effect, and it works. It’s smoke. Fire causes smoke when it burns things.
Also, please don’t compare this game visually to Arcana ever again. Gigantic pixels or not, KOF12 looks 12324415156 times better than Arcana, which looks like a doujin game drawn by community college students. I’m not sure how you can complain about KOF12’s effects when Arcana has some of the worst effects I’ve seen in a 2D fighter as of late. Slapping filters on a 3 frame energy effect does not make it passable.
You mean to say that it is not?
Back up a tiny fraction, reread my first post: The TLDR is
“don’t take this that seriously, some of you have way too much emotion invested in this product”
You’re no different. You’re already on SRK.
ill take animation quality any day
Yes a place where you discuss fighting games. The actual games, not fanboy shit about the companies that make them.
Well isn’t that just a convienent reason~
It would make sense if it actually applied to every ‘flame’ in the game, but I’m pretty sure some have it and some don’t.
Also it’s not an ‘effect’, it just reeks of opacity(sp?) values / alpha channel leftovers. Ninetyeight percent of the ‘effects’ in the game don’t have the outlines but because you want to be realistic with your logic it’s acceptable? Nah, sorry. In that case Joe’s tornado should be smothered with it thanks to debris, along with a multitude of attacks in the game that would need realistic alterations.
Woah there :looney:
I only brought up Arcana in reply to someone else, otherwise it was never part of tje discussion and I don’t think it should be anyway. No reason to get aggrivated over it :p.
I’ll be the first to admit Kyo’s Serpent Wave and Uppercut fire effects look like shit. The style works for Ash’s fire, def not Kyo’s. I dun mind the serpent wave as much though since its just such a huge Blast, but the uppercut fire is the only thing that really irks me
Well, it’s obviously intentional. Otherwise they’d just switch “render as additive” or whatever to true. You wouldn’t even have to clean up the black, it would work straight away. And no one is to lazy to switch a false to a true or however they decide what’s additive and what’s merely alpha.
I don’t mind it. I think it would look puny, or “non-solid” if that makes sense when it comes to fire, if it was additive(like Sols flames, it kinda looks more like a special effect flare like the hit flare), this feels like it has more punch to it. It could have been much better executed though, like a Metal Slug explosion typ thing:

Not sure if you were agreeing with me, but I was basically saying: you would have to be emotionally attached at some level in the first place to take the time to register and post on a forum about a game (or games).
It’s been bouncing around since '99, SNK has always paid attention to little details.
They pushed that damned Neo-Geo to hell and back.
this shit sucks ass
Even if you’re unhappy with the sprites themselves, isn’t gameplay the most important thing about any fighting game?
I mean, some of us still play Hyper Fighting and Super Turbo. Compared to those games, KOF XII looks incredible.
I love ‘next gen’ graphics as much as the next guy, but in the end, they don’t matter. It’s all about how the game controls.
