If for whatever reason you don’t use want to use ad blocking software, you could use a flash blocker.
I use Flashblock on Firefox, and it makes browsing much faster. It doesn’t block text/banner ads, but it stops audio ads and animated/video ads from loading without your permission.
Hey I know SRK is aware of the problem with the ads, but I’m posting this reiterate my displeasure lest you get the impression that we’ve become complacent. It’s really infuriating to deal with these fucking ads. They’re really invasive, and highlighting alerts is such a fucking nightmare with that giant pop-out ad directly overhead. You know what happens if the cursor even grazes that thing, so i’m not going to describe how frustrating the last few minutes have been for me.
SRK is one of my favorite sites. You have my allegiance because there are no viable alternatives. But that’s no reason to subject us to these oppressive ads. I consider it an affront to myself and your devotees that we must continue to endure these fucked up ads with no indication from SRK that the problem will be addressed.
And please, I’m aware of adblocker. No one needs to suggest I download it. Just because the problem can be circumvented doesn’t change the point of my grievance.
Only ones I can’t stand are the audio ones because I’ll be listening to music in another tab and it ruins it.
That Sean John Ad needs to fucking go, you can not minimize it once you accidentally get within 4 inches of its air space. You have to either watch the ad or reload the page.
I’m running firefox and now the expanding ads are overlapping the nav bar too. I have to find alternate ways to check alerts and get around. I get that these are being looked into, but what of the audio ads? I feel these are the biggest issue. I can’t ever idle on your site because of this. A general rule of thumb is ads should NEVER EVER auto play audio (and no a rollOver is a completely unacceptable unmute option).
I too have been frustrated with the g-star raw add blocking my alerts/inbox/ect. Only an hour ago did I realize there is also a toolbar displaying the alerts/inbox/ect at the bottom of pages.
G star not only blocks the top portion of the screen, but there’s another video ad under it that plays and I can’t mute it.
These new ads are getting annoying and making the site really slow!

gstar raw ads are blocking an ad that auto plays. if i am lucky i can mute it.
massive size blocks nearly all or just straight up all recent topics.
alerts are visible at bottom of page which helps. ads are still invasive.

Ads are terrible. You can see the transition of this site from passion to business even moreso with the onslaught of new ads. Site slow down on load up everytime a page is refreshed or going to a new page. Ads that automatically start playing even after muted on the previous page. Double stacked mega banner ads… I know this is all business oriented now but just…damn…

K I thought i was just me. Just use normal google adsense like on my site. I use the same forum as on here software. I also use Digital Point Ad Positioning. Using your template’s blank templates, just pace one ad below the navbar, one above the footer, one in the sidebar, one underneath the currently viewed post and one underneath the very first post like so: Main Page, Forum and Thread. Your navbar is my footer and that ain’t right. Matter of fact, get LMS Footer Pie if you want to advertise that bad.
The G-star-raw ads cannot be closed, so it blocks links at the top of the forum pages that I actually want to see. The only way I can see these options is if I can reload the page and hit the stop button as a 1-frame link.
That Digital Point Ad Positioning can be really useful…especially for premium members here.
Seriously, owners of this site, do you simply just not give a shit? This is getting ridiculous. It’s worse every week. Now, not only can’t I see any of the top bars, I have ads sometimes blocking parts of the forum as well. Sometimes the tabs and alerts section is showing up on the bottom of the page.
This site was already unusable on my droid, but these ads have basically made using my laptop for this site a pain in the ass.
I second the complaints about the G Star Raw Ad. It’s REMOVING the ability for people to use the site. I’ve come here far, far, far less since it’s been used, and today came here pretty much just to say “this effing sucks”. I’ll probably just put on e-mail alerts for the like two threads I watch and only come here for that since you, yes YOU, Shoryuken and Mr. Wizard, seem to not people to actually use your site.
I’ve resisted complaining about this, but the ads have been really bad for a while. I can’t tell if it’s being fixed or not because every few days I get new ads that are horrible and annoying in completely new ways.
Do you guys know if I have any alerts? Because I have no idea.
