New 2DFG coming

Like everyone is saying, hold off on announcing anything until you’re ready to show something. No matter how tempting it is.
Just come back later with a trailer or a screenshot or something, when it’s ready to be shown.

I agree with what everyone’s saying about no fireballs or projectiles similar to them. There’s a serious need for them in 2D fighters and if you want to keep the realistic fighting and not include forceballs shot from your hands, give your characters something to throw. Let them throw pocket knives like Edge, or rocks like Cody.

So wait, what have you been working on for two months now that you plan to have this done early next year?
When you say you’ve fixed certain things, do you mean things in your game? Because that information is a bit meaningless to us, since we’ve never seen any earlier versions of your game. Or do you mean fixed things you thought were wrong with the SF4 engine? I don’t play that game, but it sounds like a pretty bold statement.

Anyway, I hope you guys have fun working on this and that you get it done and it turns out great. Good luck!

This FFS. We need actual good fighters on Steam. There’s a market there. Best of all you can do whatever you want and don’t have to worry about paying to patch the game.

“When you say you’ve fixed certain things, do you mean things in your game? Because that information is a bit meaningless to us, since we’ve never seen any earlier versions of your game.”

Nope. We’re fixed on graphic design, character numbers, stages, overall ambiance ect…
Actually, the only thing that we have to do is implement graphic element in the game. This is some work. But in order to do it, we have to finish the engine first.

“This is why you’re not getting many serious responses right now. There isn’t a single game company in existence that announces a game before they have something to show OR announces a game before they are willing to show something.”

Yes, I understand that. But first, we’re not a game company at all, we’re just a very little “studio”, everybody is working at home. In order to do all the graphic stuff, I took 2 month holliday. We’re not a studio like others, we’re just a team of guy who succeed to found the funds to make a video game. Everybody is working at home, I do not know 50% of the guy I work with since I just hired most of us.
And the second and biggest reason we can not show you anything is that we’re still discussing with our lawyer about “plagiarisk” and all those things.
Laws are not the same in our country and US or other countries. We’ll be fixed very soon ( two or three weeks ).
We’re working on this project for some time now, but we just found the funds for it. So we’ve still some administrative task to do.

“Do you even have a name for this project?”

Of course, but like I said, be patient. It’s just a matter of time before we have our legal study ^^.

Now about the game :

If I did come to you so early, it’s because I’m still unsure about some stuff. And I need your gamer opinion. I could just release the game and make it scrubby as mad, and piss on your opinion, but that’s not what I want.

Being unsure about how the game should play is an exemple of our indecision.

 • Overall, combo are not long. Most of the time you’ll see 3,4,5,6 hits combo. There is no infinite or really usefull 14 hits combo ( Without super ). We really like how super turbo play, the game revolve around short and fast combo, and that is something we’d like to implement in the game. But we also know that people like to do some “long” combo… So we thought about giving character shorts and very usefull combo and some flashy but not as usefull one. But is this a really good decision ? Or maybe we should just make some character with short combo and other with long combo ?

 • There’s only one female in the casting over ten characters. And I know female in fighting game are getting some huge love, so maybe we have to add one or change the sexe of one existant character ?

And one good question : Will sf4 like online mode ( G3, G2… system ) return would be a good thing ? Because we liked it back in those days, so we want to make the same for our game.

This.

How you will make a proper 2dftg without “fireballs”?
If you use knifes\rocks\grenades\guns as a “fireballs” then why do you even mention “realism blah-blah”?
“no parry” & “games engine ended feel a lot like a more refined 3s” = does not compute.

So this is what you sound like to us: “Hey guys, I’m making an awesome fighting game, I can’t show you anything, I don’t know what it’ll really play like yet, what characters it will have, what systems it will have, but I want your advice!”

Come back once you have something to show. And even then, don’t be as stupid as this. You want advice, but whenever someone gives some advice, you pull new information out of your ass that covers for whatever they said. This could go on for hundreds of questions.

You’re the eleventh member to tell me about this. I think I’ve understand you know. But that will not prevent me from asking some advice for my game.
And if you do not want to participate, you’re not forced to. Remember it, that could save you some time.

I’ve been on this game for a long time know, I’ve some private discussion with many players I respect ( Emblem Lord and shin Akuma for example ). Like I said I can show you some early concept work we do not plan to use, I’ll repeat it : DO YOU WANT TO SEE SOME ? You just have to say yes, and I’ll show them. But I won’t take picture of them and upload it if no one care about.
” Come back once you have something to show. "
Do not be impolite. Do I owe you something ? Nope.
I do not understand, you all do not want to believe me. Fine, I can understand that, but why does it hurt you so much ? Let’s just say that I’m lying if you want. If that’s to hard to believe me, imagine that I just want some opinion of yours without any game behind.

I doubt anyone thinks you’re lying, but I think a lot of people are skeptical that the game will ever actually see the light of day. Since we’re all enthusiasts, we’re rather curious to see something and are disappointed when nothing is actually shown. Besides that, the post contains just not enough information, that’s fine, but it’s better to curb your enthusiasm until you have a bit more to show, people will get excited, and word-of-mouth is great for the promotion of your game.

That disappointment is what drives people to write annoying posts, which leads to you being annoyed and lose motivation. Making a fighting game is a lot of work, I wist you the best of luck.

Ok then, let’s wait a little. Let this thread and when the trailer and all other things will be ready, i’ll show you how far we went.

I’ll try to let some room in the game’s dev to do some tweaks here and there according to your future return.

They don’t add any depth, they dumb the game down. But yeah “gamebreaking” isn’t the way to describe them.

Depth must have been a bad word to use I guess then. I guess I should say, more options…?

i’m sure you’re all just amazing at 3S.

Yo @NAMAOVgta. Could you use the reply command on the bottom right of people’s posts when you reply to them please? I was thinking that you were replying to random guys from other sites. Please ask for help if you don’t know how to use the forum.

But yeah your game on paper sounds maximum dry in content. I really think that you should try to aim for some sort of low end PC release so that you can improve it over time with patches and stuff. Especially if you only have like a really small amount of guys to work with. Don’t set yourself up for failure.

Can we see some [S]nudes[/S] vids? Can’t get hype for a game I can’t see.

Ok, you have now convinced me that 90% of what you’re claiming isn’t true.

I fully realize that you are a small studio as opposed to a game company. That is obvious. Still, you seem to be comfortable with describing your entire game’s mechanics but have no interest in posting any artwork of any kind? You’re also attempting to convince us that due to your country’s legal limitations regarding plagiarism, you can’t show any artwork OR even tell us the name of your game? Seriously? It this really what you’re trying to tell me? First of all, if it’s your artwork, you own the rights to it. Plain and simple. There is no legal issue here. I haven’t a clue as to what country you live in nor am I a lawyer of any kind, but my guess is that any country that wouldn’t allow you to post an image of potentially copyrighted imagery also wouldn’t even allow you to be on a site such as this. The alternative here is that you’re just taking existing sprites and characters from other fighting games and making some sort of compilation game. Even if this is the case, take about 8 seconds of your time and click on any given forum in the general section and you’ll find it riddled with material that the posters don’t own. It doesn’t even matter.

Let’s go ahead and pretend that your “legal” excuse is actually legitimate; I thoroughly do not understand why you are “allowed” to post tons of information about your hypothetical fighting mechanics and not anything regarding your artwork.

Speaking of your mechanics, I’m not going to comment on whether or not I think your game will be fun. I will, however, comment on the fact that this whole thread you started seems to be exactly what phoenixnl assumed. You seem to be wanting us to come up with ideas for you. You’ve picked SF2T as your base. Great. It sounds like you’re just cloning the game to me, but you’re asking us to come up with the rest that will make it better.

You also claim to have 10 characters with one being female. Your following statement to this is actually what tipped me off to you guys have nothing art-wise to show. You may have character designs, but you certainly don’t have any animation work done. I don’t believe for a second that you’d be willing to completely and effectively trash one character model to have to re-model, re-rig, re-texture, and potentially re-animate an entire character. I’m just not buying it. I happen to have a pretty good idea as to how much work goes in to actually doing something like this and this claim seems highly unrealistic.

Having said all that, I could be wrong. Maybe you’ve got the most amazing thing ever to show and you really just can’t show it now. I sincerely hope I am wrong and you’re actually not doing what I think you’re doing. I hope that when you finally do reveal something, that it actually reflects the amount of work you claim to have gone into it. What I mean is, your upcoming trailer should probably have some animated characters or actual in-game action.

Ultimately, I suppose we’ll see.

The concept sounds interesting, but at the same time it seems like you’re leaving out crucial factors just for the sake of being different from current 2D fighters. (i.e the fireballs, women, exciting stages, counters, ect.) It also seems like you would have trouble spreading diversity between ten characters given the information you’ve put out.

I am however interested to see how this turns out…sounds a lot like HDR to me, which can either be something really good or something really bland. Hopefully it’s not the latter.

I am making a 2D fighting game with Hand drawn sprites its a mix between bloodyroar and sf3thirdstrike got a team of 6 looking for help and team members i also wish you luck on your project.

>No 14 year old girls
>No anime

Fuck this game, seriously.
