Well, you said it yourself. There is nothing to talk about. I understand that you might’ve not been present during that time, but the SFxT pre-release Poison thread had this discussion going for over 6 times, over dozens of pages. The argument was so heated, the post count was higher than for ALL the other SFxT threads combined.
That’s why we try to avoid it. Even at the cost of this thread dying until any relevant info comes out :3
Dude she’s a transvestite she’s packing she hadn’t undergone surgery and as far as I know she never will. So she’s a man dressed up as a woman transvestite.
I was around during the xT discussion I just never bothered with the discussion. Thanks for reminding me though. From this point on I’ll continue to not discuss that topic.
I don’t know if u guys heard, apparently Philipino champ had a stream bout the upcoming Ultra SFIV. A lot of things were said, however one that was discouraging is “Poison is ass”. Obviously nothing is finalized, but I guess her current form isn’t very good atm.
No amount of skill in any game will make me take Filipino Champ seriously when he acts like that, especially when the game isn’t even out yet. And besides, didn’t several high level Japanese players once proclaim Hakan to be the worst character in the game?
I was going to hold back, but it’s time. Incoming rant on Poison, gender, and her awesomeness (spoilered for sanity and language)
In addition, most transgendered people I have heard from assert (as I understand it) that sex and gender are two separate things: Sex is defined by whatever reproductive organs you possess, and one’s gender is whichever they mentally percieves (or identify) themselves as. If someone identifies as a female, and yet possesses a sexually male body, this is where an issue can arise. Regardless of what you may think of that, given how Poison dresses and behaves, it’s pretty obvious that she identifies herself as a female. The one issue that still seems under debate is whether or not she still possesses male genitalia. Your mileage may vary from here, but I personally think that Poison must have made quite a bit of cash between her days with Mad Gear and her new career to do whatever she wants. What that might be…I can only guess.
The whole debate from this point over the past 20 years has gotten very complicated and vague, especially given the lack of understanding of sex and transgenderism by Capcom and most people as a whole (including me). Thankfully, due to the intercession of GLAAD and others, it isn’t as critical or central to enjoying the character as it once was. Thanks to them, the in-game dialogues have gone from constant played out Admiral Ackbar jokes to more subtle stuff that is both clever and make her a more well rounded, interesting character.
I’ve said it before, but I have been a fan of pro wrestling since I was a kid, was a teenager during the WWE’s Attitude Era, and even have some professional training myself. I also played in arcades on Final Fight machines…a lot. Having said all that, I can’t quite say how awesome it is to see a character go from being Capcom’s biggest punchline to being a complete nostalgic sexbomb who actually talks like a wrestling manager with a shady past who is also super fabulous, fun to play as, and will likely not hesitate to stab a promoter who dares to cheat her and Hugo out of money after selling out the whole damn venue. She’ll get acquitted of murder, autograph some t-shirts afterwards, and sell them at shows for $250 and not give a single fuck because fans like you will buy every single one. I don’t care what the haters say. She deserves to be in Ultra Street Fighter 4, and I will love every second of her addition into the Street Fighter canon.
“Let’s set the record straight: in North America, Poison is officially a post-op transsexual. But in Japan, she simply tucks her business away to look female.” <— How is this a clarification? Those are two different things.NA Transgender. JP Transvestite. xD I’m just going to keep my opinion to myself.
I got in a similar situation when I met a bisexual girl and I questioned her about it and she got really mad and said she was a Pansexual and then I asked her if she liked Transvestites she said no they were creepy… Only in Atlanta lol.
There’s plenty of legitimate reasons for a transgender person to not undergo surgery, it is surgery after all, and for some of them, its not worth risking incontinence over. Just because someone’s pre-op (or no-op) doesn’t mean they’re not transgendered.
The Irony is that you idiots keep bringing it up…maybe that’s why we can’t ever stop talking about it…surely someone here on SRK is using their head meat.
I’m just waiting for the guys who’d defend the “Poison is female!!” silly argument to arrive, so that they can justify the blood pressure in their crotch. Think only those are missing by now. snickers
Lets hope this is not entirely true… I just remember early days of SFxT where everyone played her like a shoto. Her fireball and “shoryuken” are very different and she would play as a rather average shoto, if even possible. So perhaps its a rather premature statement. Besides we do not know how her ultra and supers are going to be handled yet? They should make her current super an ultra (it would be awful as a super IMO), it would also allow her to combo into it from EX rekkas.
However, as much as I want to believe otherwise, my intuition is erring on the side of caution with regards to Poison. I just hope that Capcom is still in early stages and they improve her as development and feedback pursues. I like that poison has a universal answer for cross-ups in her KBG, so I hope they do keep that.
I still agree with therook, Poison and Rose are worlds apart. Poison relies heavily on knock downs in order to start her pressure game. Rose on the other hand can control space really well - just look at their sweep ranges? I do hope Poison can cancel her sweep into a special. Rose can also play rush down pretty well. IMO Poison needs to play rush down in order to get hits - we will see how her fireball game plays out though in USF4 - it just feels like a weaker kikoken since it doesn’t go full screen (chun can at least walk behind her kikoken as a barrier). I do believe Poison’s fireball (at least during development) was able to pass through other fireballs. The true strength of her fireball IMO is her HP version, yet again to allow her to exercise pressure when in close. Poison also have a good reversal, which Rose currently seems to be lacking.
I guess this is the beauty of us being able to play each character differently so even though I disagree with the Rose comparison… lets agree to disagree
I can agree to disagree. I think her being rushdown oriented is a side effect of the way SFxT plays especially after the 2013 patch. But regardless I can’t wait to play her in USF4~
Can we all at least agree that regardless of any alterations, the assurance of Poison getting a second Ultra and an actual theme song is awesome enough on it’s own?
Even so, I’m still hoping that EX LMT retains it’s fireball invincibility…
