Never Shall the God of Thunder Relent! - Ultimate Thor Thread

I completely agree with how difficult it is finding an optimal team for Thor. I’ve settled on using Hulk/Thor/Cap because I feel comfortable with each of those characters on their own and I think they work fine in any of the combinations if 1 gets killed. However, I’m still trying other characters that work great with Thor and I’m having a difficult time because I either suck with them or don’t feel that their assists work well for Thor.

I’m starting to play Thor, Dorm, Doom.

I guess it’s FChamp’s team, but with Thor instead of Mags, lol.

Only problem is I really, really like missiles with Thor, but Dorm doesn’t have very good assists for his neutral game.

Thor with XF Lv3 is actually scary. XFC into mighty hurricane or mighty punish is a TOD. People will feel fear for the damage output Thor gets (200% oO), and play more defensively allowing M.hurricane obvious setups on incoming characters, much like Wesker does with his command grab in XF lv4. You can’t rushdown Thor if he is the last character and has XF, so he really lost the fight just against the characters that can outzone him (Dante, Hawkeye, Modok, Morrigan, Probably Dorm)

As for the “snap in the dog and kill” strategy, of course, it is what you should do if you get a hitconfirm on Thor, the combo is not going to kill Thor without burning XF anyway (well, Zero can kill u.u). Ammy is not without defensive tools though, head stomp L, the airdash, Okami Shuffle, the small hurtbox and fast normals, etc, the smarter player wins. It helps that Thor bfs are all good in XF (Dorm, Strange, Doom, Ammy, Skrull, Taskmaster, Sentinel, Frank in lv3, etc), so losing Ammy should not be decisive. And if the opponent doesnt manage to kill Ammy after of a snapback, Spark M is a very good assist for her, and the TAC from ammy bnb to Thor is TOD to anyone.

Hmm…guys what do you usually use for your combos after a Mighty Hurricane? I need to check if this one combo I’m starting to develop is worth it.

None of that is particularly unique to Thor though. Everyone should be wearing of attacking anyone with XF3 still ready to pop. Everyone in XF3 is killing you off a hit. Thor doesn’t get a speed boost either if I am correct. All characters are ‘good’ with XF3, but Thor is far from scary like other characters.

Ammy’s defensive options in neutral are great, but on incoming suck. You will get tagged if you try anything to escape (i.e. throw out a move or air dash), and her large horizontal hitbox means she can get crossed up easily. Anyone who snapbacks most likely has potent mixup for you to deal with, and I’d rather have one of the double jumpers or at the very least a tridasher to get out.

If I’m in the corner or close enough to it, I always go for that j :l: Mighty Hurricane reset, since it seems to be always guaranteed.
MH, :s:, j:m::m::h::s:, land charged :h: Smash, :m: Smash, j:l:, :h: MH.

Anywhere else, I just do the regular air combo into super or j:s:. What do you have in mind?

Anybody else playing Thor/RR? Log trap is amazing since it hits other assist, hard to stuff, covers a huge area, let’s Thor power up a mighty strike and he can convert from the wall bounce in a couple of ways.

Well I’m thinking of a basic launch MMHS, but then hard tagging into Viper, EX Seismo, relaunch into TAC in the corner (if a simple DHC wouldn’t finish the job or I wanted to save meter).

I never really pictured Thor as able to convert from wall bounce assists. Maybe with how Log Trap hits, you could get something from it.

It’s not that hard to convert off fully charged strikes since they cause a soft knockdown. Thor’s st. :s: has good range and you can also just do a second fully charged strike before launching depending on the spacing and height.

Honestly, I’d consider Spitfire Twice better for Thor. That assist is damn good.

Didn’t know about that, sweet.

After playing against it for a long set, and knowing how to dodge to the log trap, you need to trust in the log trap. Spitfire doesn’t swat people away at a fruity angle.

So what are the best resets as of now? I loved the H msmash->j.SxxMstrike reset in vanilla but with the ability to charge mighty smash (and i have missles on my team) its obviously not optimal and i know i can be even tricker with the tools thor has.

My main team is finally taking shape. Just need to figure out what to do in the Viper neutral game (OTHER than EX Seismo). Also need to figure out what’s the best options off of throws and reset opportunities with her. My team’s looking good though. If I play it correctly, one hit from Viper should convert into a dead character plus absolute hell for the opponent on the next two courtesy of Thor + Ammy.

Definitely a lot of potential there. Get first hit with Viper = Win Match? Fun times.

That reset is still pretty potent, and usually the follow-up will do enough damage to kill a huge chunk off the cast.

The one’s I use most are (in no part. order):

Midscreen:
-X into S, MMHS, H.MSM(FC), UFAD, H.MH
-X into S, MMHS, H.MSM(FC), S+<Jam Session>, j.H, UFAD, L.MH

Starting near corner:
-X into S, MMHS, H.MSM, M.MSM, j.LxxL.MH
-X into S, MMHS, H.MSM, M.MSM, cr.L, S, j.HxxL.MSP, UAD, L.MH (catches back and front tech, air dash forward for neutral)

Point in case, there is no “best” reset, since all off them are escaple and require strict timing on the Thor players side. Just try to keep your opponent on it’s toes, because usually you really just need 1 succesfull reset per match (depends on the team really, but usually I try to reset the 1st, DHC the 2nd, and XF the 3rd char).

the H smash > j.S corner reset is still my favorite by far, its the only reset i know that is capable of beating out almost all escape attempts (back/forward/neutral techs, mashing and air mobility), pretty much anything outside of push blocking and invincible moves. And you can turn it into a 50/50 if you throw in a few air mighty hurricanes instead of j.S, so you dont have to worry about the reset becoming predictable after you’ve used it a couple of times unlike some of his other resets.

It’s much better/easier to do now too since charged H smash is easier to land in ultimate.

My favorite reset is the charged H. Smash, M. Smash, jL, H. Hurricane in the corner. That doesn’t seem to get out by anything either. No need for 50/50 shenanigans, no need for mind games, just don’t drop it, and that’s a dead character every time.

What kinda things is that losing too?

In theory, not much, except for sillyness like Hard-Drive, but because your timing has to be frame perfect to make resets air tight, which is really hard because of variable hit-stun.
