If you get one of these laggy matches that don’t appear to be rolling back properly (in an unranked room), try just waiting it out and “Play again”. My experience is that the connection tends to smooth out and rollback comes into play in the second game.
A high % of my low ping matches are really good though.
I can be running wireless but have a 60-70ms connection to you. However, these connections hardly remain stable. In fact they fluctuate or “jitter” way more than a wired connection can. that connection can reach over 100ms if it starts to bounce around like crazy not to mention that wifi and packet loss go hand in hand and that shits on the game so you will see the game go from good to dog shit. So you have a ping that bounces from 60-70ms to 100ms potentially with packet loss. There is no way in hell it can be stable.
I experienced this on GGPO a lot but on GGPO, you can refresh their ping to identify the wifi players by watching their jitter which is done through clicking their name over and over. There is no option like that ATM, an option or trick to identify people who abuse internet connectoins to play online.
anytime I see someone with a low MS connection but shitty underwater world game play, that mother fucker is on wireless. 99% sure of it.
not being able to identify wifi players before the game starts is really hurting the quality of the games, I wish something could be done about that. I got so good @ spotting wifi connections on GGPO that I would start a game with someone and in about 3 seconds, I knew he was on wifi w\o him telling me.
I’m really dumbfounded as to what’s going on with the netplay. Sometimes it’s really good, all of a sudden game turns in to this slideshow during the later half of the matches and by the next match it’s completely fine.
I don’t have anything else running that’s taking up bandwidth, did my pingtests etc checking for packet loss and it all comes out clean. Yet like 50% of the matches I play are fucking horrible and turns laggy all of a sudden for no apparent reason. And like Shari said, I’ve yet to see an actual rollback, it’s just slowdown for me. Feels like I’m flipping a coin every game I play in Skullgirls…
I’ve been getting better connections as of late and just setting the GGPO delay to 1 or 2 instead of zero just incase. I just wanna know why the game slows down when it lags instead of getting ports like regular GGPO. That’s just weird to me.
lots of my matches are 70 ping and below, and i play only at 0 frames. i dont get slowdowns/lag very often, but when it do it varies from meh to “okay this isnt fun”, but usually, most of my matches are super smooth.
Yeah I haven’t noticed it, either although the rollbacks are definitely there (I’ve heard hit/death effects a couple of time when it shows my opponent blocking). Not sure what Mike did to make the teleports go away but I’m happy it’s not 3SOE screen orgasm all the time.
That’s still kind of low for a delay. I set mine to 4, and I actually got a decent connection from New York to France the other day.
I think the main issue is people not understanding how to set the delay, and thinking that their internet is GDLK so they can use 0-1 for every game. Usually if I message them and ask them to raise their delay, it works out a lot better.
Is it just me, or is the netcode way worse than it originally seemed? I haven’t had a perfect connection to anyone since release, and every time I play, no matter how good the ping/connection, I just always seem to get lag spikes mid-combo causing drops. Anyone else feeling this way?
